So if the Crota's End leak is to be believed...

How do you suppose we reach level 32? Add light to class items? An increase to the soft cap? Have all 30 light gear become obsolete and have new gear with a higher light capacity? Anyone have any other theories? Edit: keep in mind the light stat will be increased by 22, not a number divisible by 4, so just saying the new raid gear may be true, but it doesn't fit the current archetype of equivalent light throughout all armor pieces.

  • Why not just have raid class items (capes, bonds, etc) that actually do something and have a light level. Would increase level cap and hopefully add new abilities to each class.

    • It happens in pretty much all MMO's. When the new tier hits your gear becomes practically obsolete

    • I expected the light level cap increase, what I didn't expect was a new tier of exotic and legendary weapons that go to 320 attack. Unless there is some way to upgrade our existing weapons, that is going to render them obsolete for future content. I'm fine with having to earn new gear to compete in harder content, BUT, when the exotic weapon design revolves around giving them really cool and unique modifiers you get attached to, this prospect gets upsetting. What if I really like my Last Word? If there's no 320 attack version of The Last Word, I don't get to use it anymore in PvE :( My hope is they add some sort of legendary crafting material that lets you enhance 300 attack weapons to 320.

    • You'll probably get a new set of gear obtained by normal means that's better than the VOG gear that will help transition to the new Raid gear when you download the DLC. More incentive for hold outs to cough up the cash.

    • Another thing that's rather disturbing bout the dlc. The level cap is only raised by 2... How long is this dlc supposed to last? 31 will be the new 29. Level stats attached to armor is a failed mmo concept. Time to scrap it and give us real levels with real level modifiers and gear that actually allows us to hit diminishing returns on stats, no rng stats that can end up giving you 300+str and 67discipline

I think the Raid will be at level 30 or 28 or something; accessible with our current gear, and then the hard raid will be level 32. This way, the new raid gear will be the thing that brings us to the cap.

    • Well there are two tiers of loot for that new raid (IF the info is accurate). So you probably have to get the entire Normal raid suit in order to do Hard. Personally, I hope there is no level cap increase, but hard IS level 32. Basically this way everyone would need to be lvl 30 but also have EVERYTHING fully upgraded as well. And even then would still take some time and skill. A group of six lvl 29's with weapons half upgraded can beat the current Hard raid that is lvl 30. So I'd think it's possible a group of six lvl 30's with their weapons fully upgraded could take on a lvl 32 raid. I'd personally rather see that, a nice challenge than a couple extra levels myself. But eventually there will be a level increase one way or another. And yes your current gear will be obsolete. Happens all the time in MMO's, with first WoW expansion this happened and the phrase "Greens are the new Purples" came about from it.

It's obvious, isn't it!!! The new Raid set will allow you to reach level 32. Plus the new Raid will require you to be level 30, so you'd have had to have done the original raid before attempting the new one!

        • From what i've read, the raid gear you get from Crota's End will have enough light to get people to 32. I have no source, so this could just be speculation.

The quick and dirty method would to be to add light to the bond\cloak slot which is currently un-used. BUNGIE are hopefully now re-thinking the leveling as they were apparently taken by surprise by the rate of the playerbase progress.

          •
Have all 30 light gear become obsolete and have new gear with a higher light capacity?
This better not be it. I've stated complaints about powercreep in another game that plays similarly, Warframe. At least in Warframe, the gear you earn doesnt take you a week of effort to earn and level. If bungie introduces gear that raises the light level to 32...suddenly, Vault of Glass no longer becomes a raid of caliber. Suddenly, that entire part of the game becomes pointless and useless to level with. I hope they just raise the soft cap or something. All endgame material needs to be viable, or the game just falls flat on its ass with people who leave because they can't keep up.

Just want to point something out: Light required per level: Level = Light 21 = 20 22 = 32 23 = 43 24 = 54 25 = 65 26 = 76 27 = 87 28 = 98 29 = 109 30 = 120 The jump from Level 21 to 22 is 12 Light. All others are 11 light. Most of those numbers above are not divisible by 4. You are assuming the light needs to be exactly what is required for level 32, but it may go over eg: 3 legendary + 1 exotic = 111 light but level 29 only requires 109 light. So all this speculation is kinda pointless when you say with such conviction that "level 32 will require another 22 light". Perhaps we will be able to add light to current gear, who knows.
Not us until December!
• Either the light stat of legendary armor will be raised or the new raid armor will play into this.

Oh no! I see bungie doing this to us till we become level 50! Getting rid of old gear after leveling it up waiting for dlc and the next raid. Ahhhh

              • 128/4 = 32 New raid pieces will probably have a max light upgrade of 32. 32X4=128. Assumptions.

Logical would be : New vendor items that get u to 30. Raid gear gets u to 32. If u make pple go tough a old content raid. To get to 30. Then a other raid to 32 alot will complain. Edit: WoW had catch up dungions ( strikes in this game ) to get pple geared for new content raids. Would only be logical if they added something lake this. The new lvl 26 strike playlist to name one. Because the curreny lvl 30's will not do that raid annymore. So every new player is doomed to struggle at finding groups.

You'll have to get new armor. That picture displays 2 armor sets. One will probably drop from the strike and be equivalent to (or better than) VoG raid gear, the other will probably drop in the new raid and raise you to whatever level the raid mobs will be.

                  • Perhaps youd have to keep one of the exotics

What if they just added upgrade spots to exotics, and legendarys. Like that you wouldn't loose your progress.

thats not even a question.. you will have to get a whole set of new raid gear to get to 32.. that will be just as hard to get. They have to make it hard to get to 32.. aside from the level grind there isn't much incentive to play the same stuff over and over

                    • I could see them coming up with a system to increase light on your favorite exotic or legendary. It wouldn't be hard but that would be capped also. I would say for example like an increase by 5 light in each armor piece to increase your overall level. This would allow you to keep any exotic or raid armor piece relevant in the future. I would assume that's probably the easiest route but who knows with bungie. All I know is this if the vog raid armor becomes irrelevant in the future then why would I mad dash to get it now?

                      • The fact they're still going off this bullshit light level nonsense to level up is amusing. Should of done an XP based system that got hard as hell to level up with at about 40 or 50, made you get raid gear off a NON RNG system (based off kills/oracle kills/other shit) and then made you level up that gear through other experience avenues. Light level is and always will be a joke as long as it stays this way.

                        • New level cap is probably coming sooner than later. They have to bring it you know, because of the current screw up with itemization they need soft reset to it.
