The actual content is all on the Destiny Servers. Your disk is a real time look back at game data so that while you run around any said map/instance the servers are providing most of the enemy data and AI output. Your "Game disk" is sitting there processing renders of the eviroment,weapons,skills and enemy models so that the servers back home at bungie don't blow up. It's the exact same process for every MMO(I know this isn't an MMO but it's set up the exact same way) Old Republic,WoW ect all of them require that you first download the games program and then log into thier servers to play. Isn't that what we all did with Destiny? Yes? That long ass install day one? The people going "Huurrrrr durrrrrr I can get into DLC it's on my disk blam Bungie" yep,it's on your disk to a degree you can bet your ass. And it's on the Destiny Servers too. TL;DR? There is no magical locked content on your copy of Destiny. If you had a way to "unlock" prior to DLC you would find a heaping pile of what is already seen by those that glitched or jumped or otherwise found a way into the DLC areas(Some are rather genious,see Terminus for example)
