Universal Remote: Worst Exotic
The Universal Remote was the very first exotic weapon I got, and let me tell you, it is useless.
Now for those of you that don't know, the Universal Remote is an exotic PRIMARY shotgun, so like the vex mythoclast, it is a primary weapon. Upon looking at the base stats, it isn't much to see. It's range is close to zero and it's impact is also low. I thought that maybe the upgrades would boost it, and they do in theory with increases to base range and range increased while ADS. However, this is not what you want it to be.
I have now a fully upgraded universal remote and it SUCKS. Even in PvP fully upgraded it compares sub par to the dominant shotguns. Any at range kills with this weapon are a crap shot and while it does kill in one shot close range, so does every other shotgun. My advice to you, stay far away from wasting your time with it.

4 RepliesYou have to actually aim with the UR. It is crap at hip fire unless the enemy is on top of you. So running around trying to hip Fire like most shotguns is pointless. I play with it and do great with it. This junker is a beast when handled right. You just have to learn the weapon but destiny has a gun for everyone's play style. People need to realize it's not the gun. It's the play style. It's not that you or your play style is bad but the gun isn't for your play style. Find a gun that compliments your play style.

It was my first exotic too. Such a let down. Too much of a niche weapon.

IMO the primary special weapon exotics should have elemental damage modifiers. The Mythoclast does, I don't get why Universal Remote and No Land Beyond don't. They are exotic weapons after all.

An exotic using the primary slot that's a shotgun that is worse than even some rare shotguns as secondaries? Yeah I can see why anyone can justify using that.

Well, my friend... I have found you to be completely correct. I got the Universal Remote yesterday... drug it across accounts to get the upgrades.... this thing SUCKS... I dominate the field with shotguns. just go check my kill count... but I have been comparing shotguns with this thing in my secondary... this thing is sub par to RARE shotguns... I don't even have to mention how it doesnt even compete with the Hide and Seek or the raid shotgun.... you will die unless you get lucky at close range... I have wanted this gun since launch and now i get it to find its a piece of junk. "To the untrained eye this beast is a junker. To the trained eye, however, this junker... IS STILL A JUNKER." I mean... I have tried to play this thing to its strengths or just play it like I normally do with shotguns... but the fact of the matter has become that this thing can't kill anything that's further than 10 feet away from the end of the barrel even with the extra precision damage... I found myself getting easy killshots again and again and this thing just absolutely disappointing me and not killing the target... I shouldn't have to take a second shot when its supposed to be a gun that makes swiss cheese out of people with one shell... I really WANT it to be good, but the fact of the matter is that this thing needs a buff to even be competitive with other shotguns... It needs either shot package or a range and impact buff.... And don't even pay attention to MadRussian LOL. dude I went and checked your profile to see if you actually knew what you were talking about... guy has less than a hundred shotty kills. On my warlock I have 2841 shotgun kills in the secondary.plus another 300 and 400 hundred on my titan and hunter respectively at the current date I am writing this. At least I have some credentials and my say might actually be given weight. Bungie PLEASE FIX THIS THING. It's practically USELESS in pvp (fine in pve but that doesn't really mean anything seeing as all guns are fine in pve really). I might as well be hobbling myself using this thing.. but I kind of like the challenge...But the invective is 3 times better at least and legendary shotguns LAUGH at this thing. Right now the Universal Remote is a novelty item more than anything. At this rate I think I am going to go post in other forums asking for a well needed buff, though our cries will not likely be heard.

Yeah I came to this conclusion too. Its just a bad gun. My blue shotgun performs way better in all ways.

3 RepliesI was hoping it would be like the KSG from Blops 2 because that was my main gun. One shot body-rocks that rewarded a skilled and patient hand. Instead I get a tighter spread when looking down the sights, giving me a slightly increased range than other shotties. But if you miss the kill, the other person has time to turn around, draw their shotgun, make a pot of tea and write a thesis about the implications of calling my pathetic thing an exotic weapon, shoot me twice and kill me before I can fire again. That said, I think the only saving grace is that it is a primary shotgun. That means that in the crucible you don't have to run around and grab ammo because you should always have it. And to everyone who says "it's a shotgun with sniper range" you're wrong and I hope you don't honestly think that. It has a range comparable to other shotguns, and the occasional large rock.

14 RepliesMost players miss the most valuable and important thing about UR: you can run it with a sniper rifle. It is the ONLY shotgun you can run simultaneously with a sniper rifle. This requires a player to be very effective with the sniper and to understand the UR's narrow shooting pattern. the foundation of Balance in Destiny PVP is based on the range of you weapons. When you choose a load out, your choosing which ranges your character will be effective in. In theory a good enough sniper is effective as close as midrange, because a headshot from a sniper is a one shot kill, even though a mid range sniper shot is difficult for most people to achieve. UR actually breaks this balance, allowing skilled snipers to be completely effective at every range. Especially if you dump all of it's upgrades towards its own range. With the right aim, It's a one shot kill from a bigger range than any other shotgun. Because of this UR is actually possibly the best PVP weapon in the entire game, but only in the hands of a very competent player and a very talented sniper (which I am not BTW). To the trained eye the junker IS a beast.

The real advantage is being able to roll with both a shotgun and a fusion rifle in PvP. But yeah, as shotguns go it's pretty weak.

I gave this gun about 3 hours and realized my blue shotgun was better. As a shotgun it sucks. As a scout rifle its ok. Not particularly good at anything. I scrapped it a while ago. The Acsendant energy was more valuable. Stay away is right.

It outguns ANY shotgun.
