which weapons do you use in the raid?

Out of curiosity, what do you recommend bringing into the vault for a first time raider? Also, what type of elemental damage is most prominent? Edit: thanks everyone. Really helpful info. I've got a good idea of what I should be maxing out

Lately I'm using a 300 Attack Lord High Fixer ("Send It" perk, plus great impact), a 300 Attack void 77 Wizard (during Time's Vengeance this does roughly 1700-1800 per beam to Atheon), and the Hezen legendary raid n00b tube. I run most of the raid as a bladedancer for maneuverability, but switch to gunslinger for gatekeeper/Atheon. After the first charge cycle, the first praetorian/four oracles/four supplicants I see are toast.

    • I was a warlock 27 sunsinger. I recommend boosting toughness in attributes. Primary: Grim Citizen - from drop w/ 42 ammo and max 300 Comedian - I relied on other snipers because I couldn't afford Icebreaker Prestige - Void damage with stability perk Find a good group and play it weekly. Eventually you'll be the one giving tips with badass gear. I still don't have VoC or Praedyths. RNG has yet to award me with a good sniper. Still waiting on Xur to sell Patience or Icebreaker. I was given Ghorn, Truth, Hezen and Thunderlord. Looks like RNG awards heavy on heavy for me...

    • For a first time, use Suros. It's the best weapon you can use if you don't have Vision of confluence from the raid yet. It's good during all phases and good for any role you play. Bring a strong rocket launcher for atheon If you have one, or a machine gun that does void damage if you don't have a strong rocket launcher. Other than that, a sniper is most beneficial for the bosses. Elemental damage only affects shields, and the only shields you will expect during this raid are void shields. So if you have void damage weapons then that's a plus, but in all honesty on normal mode any high level weapon will burn through their shields fairly quickly regardless. If you have a strong void damage sniper or machine gun then use it, otherwise don't worry too much about it. After you've got some raid loot you should aim for this setup: Primary - Vision of Confluence Special - Praedyths Revenge/Icebreaker (both is good to have during raid but I prefer praedyths if I had to choose one) Heavy - Corrective measure is great for oracles and also does void damage which is a plus. Gjallarhorn for Atheon.
Also, what type of elemental damage is most prominent?
You're gonna want a fully leveled weapon with Void damage to knock the shields off the Pretorians & Minotaurs quickly.

To commenters Y'all are F*cking stupid. He said "first time raid". To OP Primary, your favorite mid range high impact weapons, hand cannon(fixer or devil) or AR(Vanquisher or Galahad maybe) Secondary, your choice of fusion or sniper. High impact for both. Heavy rockets for the big guys and groups, LmGs for small guys and small groups. Co-ordinate with your team who does what but post Tuesday you're gonna need to be flexible, all of your team.

This is what I use, imo you should be going for a setup close to this. Only substitute would be praetorian foil instead of light/beware. (Only weapon I don't have yet) Voc, void light/beware, ghorn until oracles. Voc, ice breaker, either raid heavy until atheon fight. Original setup for the atheon fight. For a first time, you should bring Suros regime maxed as your primary hands down. The best void shotgun fusion sniper and void heavy you have. Honestly try your favorite type of weapon first and adjust from there. I don't particularly love fusion rifles but they do well with abusing minotaurs while maintaining a bit of personal space.

A high impact rifle(assault, pulse, or scout) hand cannons tend to be reloaded to often. A void fusion rifle for minotaurs, and a lmg for oracles or athion(spelled wrong I think). Edited: because commenter can't read.

              • For your first run I would recommend to take your best primary you have and are comfortable using. AR's are a good choice here. For your secondary I would recommend the best void fusion rifle you can bring. You will face a lot of pratorians and minotaurs which have void shields. I use the 77 wizard from the Crucible quarter master ad it had high impact and takes those prats and mins down quick. For heavy I recommend your best rocket launcher. Ghorn with its wolf pack rounds puts unbelievable damage on the bosses in the raid. I don't have one yet just the truth but it's damage can't keep up with ghorn.

any AR would be great as your primary. if you have void damage on any specials that will help a lot too. oh, and heavy weapons. i actually use solar damage only and do just fine.
