the 10 year plan won't work with the current standard of DLC.

If you are going to charge £20 for 3 missions, 2 strikes and a raid, you are going to see the player base empty faster than water in a bucket full of holes. Except from the raid that content will be finished in a day. I mean that literally all that content will be finished the same day people buy it. Is that worth £20 nope not even by a long shot. There should have been at least 15 missions and 5 new strikes with this paid content push and every other paid content push. What kind of story can be laid out in three missions?

    • I love how early in the games history Bungie was saying things like; We dont want to come out with DLC we want EXPANSIONS, DLC is too small for what these expansions will cover.

      • When World of Warcraft releases a content patch, there is typically a new daily quest hub and a new raid, and maybe an in-game event. World of Warcraft charges $15 per month, and major content patches occur roughly every six months.

      • 5 new strikes? 15 missions? That's not DLC... That's Destiny 2. Literally just about what Destiny has. The raid is easily 5 hours of game play alone. Plus PVP is getting 5 new maps to play on. All of that for half the cost of the game itself. I think its fine.

So a game like Skyrim can release a DLC that is basically making a house and NOTHING else. Heathfire, and be loved. But Destiny can't release a DLC with actual content and NOT be panned by self appointed critics and self proclaimed prophets who claim to be able to predict the future? I don't think people will stop playing destiny dude. I think most of us are here for the long haul. Bungie listens and where possible, delivers. It's the fickle, two-faced part of the gaming community with its bi-polar and split personality disorders that are hampering forward progression. Edit: remember, this is DLC #1. There are many to come. The next one will be released early 2015 in guessing and the one after that will be fall 2015 to coincide with the removal of the PS4 only exclusive content lock. This ain't including patches and events, etc. What Bungie has said, is that this game will continue to receive support for the next decade with patches, updates, DLC, etc. Providing we gamers support the game, Bungie will reciprocate. The future of Destiny is in our hands. Let's not drop the ball. Also: the DLC isn't on the disk, it's server based, so the base code is on the disk, everything else is on a Bungie server.

10 year plan = we made/making a 500mil game but will give you it to you over 10 years is the correct translation. I'm not going to buy the dlc because i'm not interested in extra strikes/story OR RAIDS (the stupid dumb retarded lazy ignorant way to stifle progression by having requirement of 5 other players that can talk and the silly instant kill mechanics) I wondering or calling out that increased level cap will be TIED to the DLC content. However that would be smart, its probably going to be junk that only has 30 light max anyway, so if you have a raid set pointless. Maybe we get another vex M gun that forum idiots whine about b4 even seeing the gun IRL, an just some silly hype video of a guy fighting noobs and using the BAD map design to the weapons advantage and it get nuked out of existence. Its also going to be interesting to see what happens with strike playlist or daily/weekly missions, it be really dumb if they make that content possible because some people might not have that strike/story etc. Also what happens if a friend has a mission can you join fireteam without DLC? Lots have the dlc anyway, pre purchase hype. However I see its a very risky time for them.

                  • I'm more curious about how they plan to release DLC. According to their initial plans, there will be a 2-year gap between Destiny and Destiny 2. After a year we should've seen a big expansion to fill the 2-year gap. Now that they've announced 2 DLC packs, of which The Dark Below will be released in december, how will they handle that gap? Any word on when the second DLC will be released? And what about that big expansion? Is that still coming but being kept secret? Because the 2 DLC packs are not enough to keep the attention of the majority of the community for 2 years. Btw, where do people get the idea that this game has to last 10 years? Destiny as a franchise is meant to last 10 years, not the game we have now.

                    • I only partially agree. The DLC adds in what, 3 missions, 1 raid, 1 strike and 5 crucible maps? Halo map packs added in 3 multiplayer maps for $10, BF4 map packs add in 4 maps for $15. $20 for Destiny's content seems fair by comparison

                    • £20? That's like what, $6 in real currency? Seriously though, I agree. If i hadn't pre ordered on PSN (something I never do) I would be very skeptical on buying any of the planned DLC. I'm new to the MMO world and maybe that's why I'm so patient with all the unfixes and disappointments. I'm hoping what we've read isn't all that's included in the DLC (I haven't read the official Bungie statement, only reposts of what others have posted. So if there has been an official announcement, I'm still in the dark about it) Also, I think by the time the second DLC is released, well have a game closer to what we were promised.

                      • 2 for $20 meals at Chilis is NOT going to work. If you are going to charge $20's for 2 people to eat 2 entrees, with 1 appetizer you are going to see the restaurant goers empty faster than water in a bucket full of holes. The entire meal for both people will be finished that very same night, in the very same sitting. Maybe my date takes home a bit in a doggy bag, but you know that bitch is going to eat that cold in the morning before you get up and even have a chance to snag some. There should be at the very least a coupon for $10's off my next meal, or a free meal system, possibly a future meal discounted with purchase of another meal, i'm just spitballing ideas here.

Enjoy my time with my friends and will give bungie the time they asked for to give me the experience i want. Nothing perfect, especialy a video game and even more so one of this magnitude. There not asking for a monthly fee and still give us there weekly time and servers. Id like to see where this goes. Im buckled in. (Pre-ordered the DLC before i knew how the content would be handled) With that said. Im hoping a lot will be added in the story aspect. The gameplay is great.

                        • I really hate saying this, but even if the DLCs are massive....this game won't last a decade with its current model. If Bungie want longevity out of a game and a community that will help them achieve that goal then they're gonna have to so their homework. - Take poles (simply - what do gamers want?) - Product Research (games that have made it that long and what was the determining factor.) - Do they want the up front dollar or the decade long lasting income? - how are they going to CHANGE the game over the years? (Change has to happen sometimes or things get old and die) - Decide what is and isn't a bug and give it a hierarchy in a list of issues to solve. - CUSTOMIZATION - people want to feel unique....give them the opportunity. If at the end of every DLC everyone looks the same with the exception of shaders then this will get old quicker than you know. Please feel free to add to the list.

                            • THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING! Both DLC packs (I refuse to call them expansions because they're not) will double the content of a game that took everybody a month to do almost everything. Congrats Bungie, DLC 1 will add another 2 weeks to this game, and that's only if everybody wants to repeat the same crap over and over YET AGAIN. If this game is going to last 5 years, then they're going to need to release a LOT more than two measly DLC packs. I'm talking a Faction Expansion Pack (Faction shaders, class items, emblems, armor, weapons, missions, bounties, and new areas,) Crucible Expansions (Shaders, maps, PvP-oriented Gear, new vehicles, new playlists and gametypes, etc.) and quite a few other expansions. If they don't release massive quantities of DLC, this game will be dead by 2016.

                            • Don't be ridiculous. We should have 1000 new story missions, 100 new Strikes and 40 new raids, because we all know development is pretty much instantaneous.

                              • If You have a base game like Mass effect or Halo or skyrim or fallout, vast and rich, dlc work.. If You have something like killzone, where the dlc are just skins and maps, they will die.. If You cut down content like in dead space the last part where You basically has to buy the end seperately You will damage the Brand on top ..

                                • For me, DLC is a complicated matter. On paper, you can argue that for a third of the price of the game, the DLC should contain a third of the content... but is that really true? How much development time is actually put into the levels, missions, gear, and weapons? And, how much development time is put into creating/modifying a game engine to actually set up the rules of the world? There are a ton of factors that a person might take into consideration when buying a game. Generally, a sequel to a game takes the mechanics to a whole new level and it adds idea's that were previously scrapped due to time constraints. While a DLC merely extends what the base game offers. I rarely buy DLC because it's simply not worth it in my eyes. I regretted buying the season pass for Battlefield 3, I've found that all it did was create sub-sections to the base game. Metal Gear Rising and DmC: Devil May Cry did the same thing. You could only use the DLC characters within their own DLC world, and they would never cross-over to the base game or to the other DLC levels. I always feel like this is a missed opportunity. Planning out DLC isn't a bad thing at all, just like an author for a novel may plan out a series of novels, it can be really beneficial. I consider Sonic 3 & Knuckles to be a prime example of what DLC should strive to do. What I mean by this, the DLC shouldn't merely hold it's own, but it should also spill into the vanilla game to not only add new content, but to improve the content that's already there. I put around 80 hours into DmC: Devil May Cry, which is a ridiculous amount of time. With the DLC, I think I only put between 6-12 hours I believe. The only aspect of the DLC I enjoyed was the new playable character, but it was all contained within it's own shell. If the character was playable in the free Bloody Palace DLC, and also available to use in the vanilla game... then who knows how much more time I would have spent playing it. With multiplayer games, DLC has a lot of restrictions. With the case of Battlefield 2142, they had to give every player the soldier perks that came with the DLC. It wouldn't have been fair or balanced otherwise... but the problem with the DLC is still that they're contained within their own shells. With Battlefield 3, the added vehicles were contained within their DLC maps, and never spilled onto the vanilla maps or previous DLC's. This was a huge issue for me, since the DLC didn't improve anything... it just kept tacking on self-contained content. The weapons are an exception to this, but I've found that the added weapons did nothing to improve my enjoyment. How can they improve DLC for multiplayer games? I have no idea. On one hand, they have to make a profit, and on the other hand... well, they still need to make a profit. I have no idea how DLC for multiplayer games can be improved, I just know Destiny is one of the few that I'll be supporting. With Destiny, my expectations are that the DLC's will merely add more of the same content we've already played. Story missions will consist of the having your Ghost inspect things, while you shoot waves of enemies, occasionally having a boss fight at the end of the mission. Strike missions will consist of having your Ghost inspect things, while you shoot waves of enemies, always ending with a boss fight. If it's more or less the same content we've experienced already, wouldn't it be natural for us to ask for a generous amount? After all, they want us to spend 20 dollars further supporting their game rather than to use that same money on older titles or games that go on sale. As a consumer, I can't help but think "I can either pay 20 dollars for the same experience, or buy a different game that will offer an entirely new experience". With Destiny, I've already made my choice... I bought the season pass, and I'm likely going to enjoy the DLC considering I enjoy the base game. Aside from Destiny, I probably won't be buying DLC for any other game for quite a long time. Sometimes we crave more of the same thing, other times the content offered isn't worth the money and we would rather buy a new experience. I'm making an assumption here, but I would say that the original poster really enjoys Destiny, and he/she is concerned over the content they want. I want a generous amount of content for the DLC, and I'm sure we all want this too. For some of us, the place holder's for the new DLC just wouldn't be enough to be purchased, and it's perfectly natural for players to be concerned over this since they may want to extend Destiny's life as long as they can. A lot of players may even start to feel burned out on the game when the DLC releases, and this is another thing to consider. They may want to reignite the fire that made them love the game in the first place, and it can be underwhelming when DLC's don't do this. I think it's a safe assumption to make that any player will get bored of the DLC much quicker than they get bored of the base game. All in all, I agree with this post... while I'll likely enjoy the DLC regardless, I really hope Bungie has more content than the placeholders would suggest.

If they are going to try and make it last as long as WoW, they will surely need ALOT more content. Activision just need to let Bungie do there thing not trying sell DLCs every few months.
