Estimated Drop Rates for Engrams

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0PQ4tcADx-hTDBVUndwOUdxWnM/edit?usp=sharing I wanted to know what the drop rates for engrams in Destiny were, but Google yielded no results. So, I decided to record every engram drop I received for about 15,000 consecutive kills and create a spreadsheet listing the drop rates I encountered for items myself. I did this with a level 27 character, so all encrypted engrams were picked up as uncommon items (and then promptly destroyed). I started keeping track immediately after receiving a legendary engram in order to be as accurate as possible. Obviously, the results for rarer items are still most likely somewhat inaccurate given the room for randomness, but they're still most likely fairly close to the actual numbers. In case you don't want to examine a spreadsheet, I'll list the interesting stuff below: The drop rate for engrams of all kinds is about 2.72%. You can expect a dodecahedron or whatever the hell it is to pop out of an enemies corpse about once every 37 kills. Uncommons account for the vast majority of that figure with a 2.25% chance to drop. Decoherents have a 0.43% chance to drop. As for the legendary engrams, those will probably drop once every 2500 kills, or 0.04% of the time. Primary Weapons are the most common drop among all rarities, and all types of armor have about the same chance of dropping. The chance of getting a weapon or an armor piece from a drop is almost perfectly equivalent. Taking suspected engram decoding rates into account, the chance of that legendary armor engram you picked up actually being a usable legendary or higher tier item is pretty damned low. Assuming the chance of finding a legendary engram is 0.04%, and the chances of getting armor vs weapons is even, and the chance of getting a legendary or better from a legendary engram is 36.37%, and the chance of that item being your class is 33.33%, the chance of actually finding a usable legendary armor piece upon killing something is just over 0.002%, or about once in every 50,000 kills (not counting the chance of getting a legendary from a decoherent because i'm too lazy to do the math). The longest drought I experienced between legendaries was 5726 kills, while the shortest was only 572 kills. The median drought length was 2230 kills. Besides the video, here's some more proof that I actually did this: https://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/PGCR/1/4611686018429581002/2305843009216680200/201770925?_ https://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/PGCR/1/4611686018429581002/2305843009216680200/210339820?_ https://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/PGCR/1/4611686018429581002/2305843009216680200/212449137?_
