Why is it so easy to dismantle exotic engrams?

Edit 2: I can't believe I even have to put this, but read the post before making your comment. Most of you so far, evidently, have not. I had just got up half an hour ago, and my roommate reminded me that Xur is in the tower. I hopped on quick as I could, despite the fact that I was still pretty much asleep. I bought an exotic engram (in addition to my symbiote helm) and was gonna go identify the engram. In my comatose state I deleted the engram instead of giving it to the cryptarch. Now, there's very little to stop you from doing this. The game won't ask you to confirm, it won't give you back an engram (I can see not giving back an exotic weapon, but an engram? Really?), and as I recently figured it out, it takes the exact same amount of time to get rid of an exotic engram as it does a green one. Even the distinction for dismantling isn't there. Bungie's only response is "you done f*cked up, mate. Have fun." Like, what is that? People are GOING to make mistakes, and I know for a fact that plenty of games can work with you to get back rare items or at the very least give you steps to prevent deletion next time. Bungie, however, practically laughs in your face. Know why? Because then you have to continue playing their game to get your stupid item back. This is not the way to run a game, tend to your damn community. I have to get another 23 motes of light and wait a week (or two) all because I wasn't fully awake when I bought my god forsaken engram. Edit: For those who say "You're just a f*cking idiot" Yes, I am. Of course I am. That was never in question, I assure you. The only point to this post is to make a failsafe or confirmation for deleting Exotic gear / engrams.

I felt like the biggest moron the other night for dismantling my Hex Castor ARC during a raid. Tried to switch weapons and ended up dismantling it instead... Fail. I don't think it's anyone else's fault other than my own for not paying attention.

  • So who would you blame if you wrecked your car because you weren't awake? >implying you're old enough to drive, let alone own a vehicle Sounds like you're dumb bro. Handle rare items, material or virtual, with care.

    • Although I do find your situation to just be tough luck (I have stupidly and accidentally dismantled a legendary engram or two in the past) I have often wondered why it takes so long to dismantle or "scrap" a ship but you can destroy the actual important items in your inventory in a flash. Ideally I'd like all greens to be auto dismantled after Level 20 and each tier of item; rare, legendary and exotic to have an increasing amount of dismantle time.

    • But but but...then I have to make one entire extra button press to make sure I didn't mistakenly throw away a week's worth of gaming...I don't have the additional 3 seconds to throw away like that. Quit whining!

      • Agree with the original post. Fail-safes should be in the game for this kind of thing. For the people that are blaming him...he's already blaming himself, so I don't get why you're piling on. He's just asking for a simple fix that's already implemented for exotic gear (meaning Bungie at least half recognized the risks upon release of the game) be added for engrams. A totally reasonable and hopefully easily implemented request that we will see in the near future. I, for one, am always terrified I'll make this very mistake when dealing with engrams. A fail-safe would be nice.

          • "Do not use while asleep" -Hairdryer warning label. Jokes aside, it would be great if there was some actual feedback in the game or some extra failsafes for legendary or higher gear and items.

              • First of all it takes twice to 3 times as long to dismantle an exotic piece of gear/weapon. You would notice while dismantling it. Second... Why in the -blam!- wouldn't you be looking even I you are half asleep? Third... you can say goodbye to that piece because of your stupidity.

                • Wait, so you dismantled an exotic engram, and it's the games fault? Seems reasonable...

Stuff happens. WoW had the same problem and they fixed it eventually by just adding a simple confirmation prompt to destroy purples. This isn't new territory, Bungie. Learn from mistakes of others instead of repeating them.

                  • I think that dismantling/discarding speed should depend on the rarity. Green engrams fast, blue medium, purple slow, yellow very slow.

You don't need the game to hold your hand.. You're an adult..you are smart enough to avoid dismantling gear on your own.

                    • Lol, This is completely your fault. Next time wash your face and grab a cup of coffee first before hopping on the game so you're awake and can identify that you're about to dismantle an exotic engram. Good day sir.

                    • Don't blame your comatose mistake on the game Take it more seriously next time.
