The Devil You Know vs The Last Word
Hey guys, last night I had a friendly debate about which handcanon was better with an acquaintance. I personally use TDYK only because its reload speed is crazy fast after firing the last bullet. Also 12 shots arent bad to have on a handcanon. I just got The Last Word, I want to level it eventually, but I rather finish my Ice Breaker first. I'm just looking for some feedback. Thanks Guardians :)

Don't have TDYK but I do have TLW. Almost maxed out finally and it's easily my favorite gun in the game. It's really a shame that exotics are getting nerfed. That is just ruining the game's experience overall. I have soft ballistics set and the stability perk enabled on TLW and love the combo for PvE. For tight roomed matches in PvP, I will switch to aggressive ballistics as the impact really helps disturb the enemies shot. Once you figure out how to manage "hip fire" and then use the sights when you need to, it's a perfect all around fighter. Now if I could just get a nice scout rifle, I'll be stoked. All in time... While I prefer Red Hand IX with stability perks and fast reload over TDYK, I definitely think TLW is better than both of those. I don't even have TLW maxed yet and can tell it's better. I'm just being a baddy and need to get used to the faster rate of fire. One you master that the last word wins. Easily.

Personally, I think The Last Word is a much more forgiving hand cannon. You don't need head shots to do respectable damage. It has a shortish effective range though (50-75ft). The recoil can be rough to deal with until you get the recoil reduction upgrade, which drops it by half. The Devil You Know has a silly large mag and the reload is handy. Also feels like it has much more aim assist than TLW. You need more head shots though. The bonus stability for just dealing damage is pretty awesome though. TLW looks sexier, my opinion though.

4 RepliesWell I know the exotic fires very quick but the recoil almost makes that pointless unless for pvp. I have not use either gun but if the exotic doesn't have a dmg type like fire or arc I would stick with the devil u know since u can only use one exotic and ice breaker is too good to not use.

I seem to dominate really well with the last word, only draw back is raged maps like bastion or first light. So TDYK would be better in those situations. I run The Last Word and my dead orbit sniper for my special to copinsate for range. 8 shots can kill any one person maybe two but after that your dead unless you stratigize with nades or melee, i have speed reload for hand cannons so that helps me a ton.

I would save your exotic slot for special or heavy. Handcannon exotic is just not good enough to use vs an exotic special or heavy. That's just my point of view.

The last word is full auto as I recently learned. You lose =P.

The last word is better in close range fights or when the target has a large crit zone (think sepikis) but begins to falter at range. The extra hip precision damage and accuracy is superb but again hip firing at long range is near impossible and requires luck+skill. TDYK wins on most scenarios that require keeping distance and accuracy. At least that is my experience having both maxed.

I have the devil and it has clown mag perk so sometimes it's a 15 round mag. I love the gun

Tdyk has a very high impact rating so should do really good damage when maxed out and has the perk "send it" giving it ver good range.

1 ReplyI've used both. The Devil you know is fantastic. Especially with it's increased mag size. However when you get the stability perk and last word perk for the last word, nothing comes close. It's stable, easy to use and quick firing. It's a well balanced hand cannon.
