I posted this over in the thread about UI updates but thought it could do with a post in the actual feedback forum.
Why is the mission selector screen a thing. Why not use the patrol map as an over world and have a beacon of a different color at the entrance to a story mission area. If you choose to run the mission from the beacon it ports you (and/or fire team) into an instanced mission then back out to the entrance when it is done. Same thing for strikes just another color. Say green for patrol, blue for mission and red for strike.
This would make it so that, instead of a desktop point and click mission select interface, we get to move from mission to mission by actually exploring the landscape. Picking up and completing side quests (patrol missions) along the way.
It would also help with socialization as there would be more people of equal level wandering around the areas. And the beacons themselves would be gathering points for getting a PUG for strikes, story missions, or just patrolling.

This would definitely make for a more immersive experience when exploring a planet. Seems kinds silly to go to orbit to drop down on a mission that I can jump on my sparrow and drive to in a few seconds.
