Anyone who can actually give me the statistical probability for getting a Legendary Item out of a Rare Engram and can defend why having the probability being that low makes sense wins one cookie.

I've gotten plenty of legendaries out of blues. Like the Nerigal Savant boots.
-
I want to take a moment to remind everyone of this thread. I laughed so hard

Edited by The Stickie Mod: 10/18/2014 8:58:58 PMRNG isn't completely random. If you decode 1 and it turns into a legendary, then chances are if you decode another fast enough it will turn into another legendary as well. This is due to the 'seed' for the RNG not changing enough from the last game frame. Most likely these consoles use the system time as it's RNG seed. That's why you get different variations of the same kind of item. Here are 2 rares I decoded and both turned into legendary items one after another. EDIT: Video captured with "Xbox Record That" feature. Didn't have my Elgato running, which is why it's not very good quality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRyzele2CkM&feature=youtu.be Great video by the way, KSP music had me laughing the whole way through lol

The ending had me laughing!

Edited by FloppySeaLion: 10/17/2014 5:14:50 AMRNG is RNG, and RNG is annoying, outdated, and unfriendly to players. It should never be the answer to finding everything in the game. Sure, Borderlands is based entirely around RNG as well, but there are things you can do to increase your chances of receiving a specific object and a lot of items can be earned through completing quests. Destiny is different, in that the only way to obtain anything meaningful is through RNG, (with the exception of the stranger's rifle and the five exotic bounties.) While the system shown in the video is sad and pathetic, it is working exactly as intended. Every single Rare Engram produced a Rare Item, and every Legendary Engram produced a Legendary item. There is a chance that Legendaries can contain Exotics and Rare's to have Legendaries, but there is no guarantee. Everything is set up so that the chance of receiving something of value is exactly the same for everyone regardless of skill or effort put into the task. This system may sound familiar, and it very well should; Destiny is an example of Communism. Communism has the potential to work in real life because everyone needs to survive, and it's easier for everyone to survive if they are treated equally regardless of skills or work ethic, but Communism isn't fun. When you apply that system to a video game you end up with Destiny, which does not have a 'fun' system of obtaining loot, and video games are supposed to be fun. Where's the point to trying? Where's the point to getting better at the game? There is no point because a diligent player is just as likely to get an Exotic Item as that filthy moron who can't contribute crap. So you might as well duct tape the buttons on your controller and set it loose in the Crucible overnight just to see what happens.

This is pure gold haha
-
Ending was kind of dumb..seeing how u can just reinstall since it was digital.
-
Nice bungie
-
The end of the video made me LOL
-
I laughed so hard for so long I ended up in tears. Joyful, spirit cleansing tears. If I had digital panties, I would have thrown them onstage.
-
I don't care about all the stats and who's an idiot and who isn't...this video was hilarious. Music really put it over the top for me man.
-
Edited by PUAthelas: 10/16/2014 10:05:20 PMlooooool this video is gold!!!! all those packages in the mail that keep turning into blues hahahhaha ( I facepalmed at one point xD) and the music sync was amazing Thank you for sharing this, it made my day hahah
-
Man so much ignorant people on the forums, thank goodness i go to college
-
Yesterday I had a blue and purple engram and they turned into a legendary sniper and exotic sniper (icebreaker) I was very very suprised but that's never happened before and iv handed tons of engrams in
-
From what i've read, i think you've got a 1-2% chance probabilty to get a higher engram.
-
level 16 crypt.. lmao.. yeah. mines level 28 or so. decrypted 15 blues got 3 legendaries. note he was level blah blah before decrypting all those so say level 12 or below maybe? you all still expect him to fork out legendaries like nothing? its bad enough legendaries are gurrenteed now. you want blues to give them always? LOL work up the -blam!-ing cryptarch!
-
The defense isn't the statistic of getting legendaries from it but the fact that it levels your cryptarch which gives you opportunity for a legendary ingram and the always possible and decent chance of getting motes of light and strange coins which buy exotics. They also help low levels get easy light if they can't get legendaries yet
-
Edited by DogsEatChildren: 10/16/2014 10:23:16 PMYou are off the mark buddy. The point is to raise the cryptarch level. Simple as that, level him up and get the chance for crazy rare shaders and legendary engrams. What don't you understand? Care to elaborate? Also gotta love that's not even you in the vid.... Dude looks happy as shit he got all that stuff, and here you are claiming otherwise lol jelly much
-
That sucks, I have gotten a purple from blues when I walk up with about 4 engrams. Your personal percentage at that moment was zero, that does not mean that the percentage to get purples from blues is zero. I can say that I have gotten lucky with engrams, having only purchased 2 exotics, the rest have been drops or rewards (besides the exotic bounties)
-
10/10
-
yup. (that video) sums up my transactions as well for about two, three weeks now. pathetic is is not.
-
I've probably decrypted ~200 Decoherent Engrams since the patch and gotten... I think 2 Legendary items? I only remember The Swarm with Field Scout I got a few days ago. The odds seem to be around 1%.
-
Expect changes soon which decrease the efficiency of cave farming and correspondingly increase engram drops from completing activities.
remember the dev notes. leading to the cryptarch patch.. i havent seen any activities granting legendaries , just rares..
-
I've gotten more legendaries out of blues post patch than I've found out in the world.

Edited by Roudhouse Kick: 10/16/2014 3:30:18 PMI wish Bungie were more transparent about the cryptarch and engram drop rates in general. His level should factor in to your drop rates i.e. Base engram enemy drop rate PVE = 0.0% of that: green = 50% blue = 30% Legendary = 17.5% Exotic = 2.5% Base engram drop rate PVP (reward screen) = 50% Of that: Green = 10% Blue - 70% Legendary = 17.5% Exotic = 2.5% Then every Cryptarch level boosts your base rate by idk, 0,1%? So every 10 levels, your base rate goes up by 1? At 100 that'd put total at 10% enemy drop rate for PVE and 60% guaranteed loot drop from PVP reward screen? Why they wont: Kill farming in PVE (we've awoken the Hive!!!) PVP will become stacked due to no proper "skill" based matchmaking Oh well #destinyproblems

The only thing blues are really good for, is leveling the cryptarch, even though his packages have gotten pretty stingy with the legendaries. Somehow I've been having awesome luck with blues going legendary. In the past week I've gotten hunter gauntlets and boots, warlock helmet and chest, the 77 Wizard fusion rifle, a titan helmet, and the vanguard sniper the Epitaph, all from blue engrams. Tried to play the lottery with my current luck streak, but it didn't carry over and I'm out $20
