The real worrying message Bungie is sending.

With this upcoming hot fix people are either going to love the patch or hate it, which isn't something that is unusual. In my opinion the VM was overpower and I don't think you will find many people arguing about that and that a hot fix in some way was necessary to address it. However, I do feel they nerfed it too much especially when it comes to the PvE side and it doesn't stand out as much. You can almost say the same thing about the Autorifle hot fix, however with that fix it makes another popular weapon much weaker that is Atheon's Epilouge now they didn't mention it by name, but 99% of us knew, which weapon this patch is going to effect the most. But other autorifles will feel the same power reduction Now with those fixes it will please the PvPer's and I would say a majority of them didn't have the VM, but almost 90% of the people used Autorifles. So it is a patch that should effect everyone equally to a certain extend unless your are a AE or VM user. Now with these two hot fixes a really bad pattern is starting to appear from Bungie and most people will know that is that it is catering to the PvP guys, which is a worrying sign. Go back 18 days and one thing we will all see is the the constant debate around the Suros Regime obviously that debate completely disappeared some two weeks ago and why is that? Simply put they patched the gun with out patching it by just making it readily available to everyone through Xur thus effectively fixing it by succumbing to the pressure of the community. Now comes the juicy part you see you can't buy or get Atheons Epilogue or the VM through engrams. No you can only get them through playing/completing the Raid, Destiny's only end game part. By effectively nerfing/taking the guns power, because of PvPer's Bungie has completely given into the PvPer's for a second time in in less then a month. Instead of actually encouraging the PvPer's to raid and actually play their end game content, because of the rewards that await them for playing/completing it with better and more powerful guns they simply gave into the PvPer's. Now their can only be one explanation and that is that PvP is their main concern at this point and need to keep those guys happy as they are the much more vocal community, while PvEr's simply are getting the bad end of the deal. This could very easily mean that the PvE aspect of the game is dying and the bigger problem for the people still playing PvE including myself is that once the PvPer's end up leaving for AS:U and CoD we will be left with patches that we didn't want as they didn't improve our gameplay.

    • Name one person who uses a dedicated scout, or pulse rilfe for PVE. I'll wait. The Auto nerf was for PVE as well. The VM was too good, "if you don't have a VM, then you're under powered." This is unacceptable. Their shouldn't be one option for top tier weapons. Don't mention the skill in getting it, it's off topic.

      • "PvErs"? How many people play and only play PvE in Destiny? I feel sorry for those who fit in that category simply because your replaying the same few strikes over and over again every week, every day. You get cool new gear and then you go use it on the SAME strikes and the same single raid currently available. Testing your new gear against other players is something i believe most people find more satisfying, as illustrated by the general feeling of disappointment toward Iron Banner being more balanced than advertised this past week. Most people will play both PvP and PvE. I don't believe many players fit into a PvE only box as they are playing half of the game. Also, players who do alot of PvP are likely going to fall into the more "hardcore" gamer audience to some extent. It's that audience that tends to stick around for more than a few months to keep a game's online community alive. Other gamers will simply switch to other newer games as they come out that arn't even in competing genres. PvP also had the most issues IMO. So im not surprised that the updates lately have been addressing PvP more. Im sure more patches will be out soon to address PvE. Especially as more PvE content becomes available. I wouldn't worry. Bungie is working incredibly hard to address issues and bring new content, especially compared to their Halo games. I really only see this game getting better the longer its out. That anticipation is definitely one of the things that will keep me around for a while.

        • These were necessary changes and I completely disagree with your premise. It's not a bad pattern. 3 shotting with a Mythocast in PVP and PVE was never intended and the saturation because of the Atheon bugs, brought the glaring issue to light: The weapon is disgustingly OP. Let's not forget, the vast majority of those that have the Myhtocast only have it because they bugged the event. They didn't beat it as intended. Once that changes and those bugs are fixed, you'll see a dramatic change in individuals that have this weapon. So they nerfed general damage and buffed precision. If you use the vex to shoot "precisely" it's now only a 10% nerf. The auto-rifle hit, we all knew was coming. Glad to see the scout rifle buff. Overall, we all knew this was coming and it is what it is.

            • I really don't think the VM was nerfed JUST because it was so strong in the crucible. It was because there was a massive surge in people getting and using the weapon shortly after the push off method was posted. Don't fret yet - I'm sure bungie is upset they had to nerf the best reward in the game. I've beaten Hard mode Atheon without the exploit several times with my raid team. Something tells me we will get another incredible weapon from the next raid - and they will make the encounter as ruthless as possible. After a lot of cheese proofing, that is.

Can someone give a valid explanation as to why gun balance in PvP has to affect gun balance in the PvE? Why don't the guns have wholly independent set of stats? According to Bungie the Crucible was supposed to be balanced for all levels anyway so why is it the PvE has to be affected by PvP balances? I haven't seen the code for this game obviously, but if I were developing it knowing I had to have leveled gear for campaign purposes and balanced weapons for PvP purposes of all levels, I would have: -Given each gun whatever stats and upgrades as envisioned for PvE with hard numbers (ie. 132 hp of damage). Edit: KingTurd, you're wrong. -Based the PvP off each gun's class template using that separate set of numbers and have the upgrade adjust them based off a percentage of that base PvP stat (and ignoring damage upgrades entirely). Obviously there is some base stats that are shared for guns that runs across the entire game and Bungie is trying to adjust them to work for both. Why? Why aren't these separate stats that are being adjusted independently? If I were creating the game it would have never crossed my mind to force the guns to shared baseline values for PvE and PvP. It seems like such an amateur mistake. So what if the hit points and the firing speeds are a little off when going from PvP to PvE? Who's going to care? People are only going to care if the guns are broken. I don't need PvP-to-PvE continuity between my space blasters. I just need them to work.

                    • I'll agree with you there. While I completely agree that PVP needs to be balanced to make it more fair for people (and fun), I fail to see how reducing something on PVP need effect PVE gamers who don't really play Crucible?! Why do we have to lose out because of people whining about how a gun is overpowered in a completely separate form of the game, why do these have to be linked? Surely it's in the engine of the game to be able to change how a gun damages another guardian but leave the damage to PVE be??

As someone who spends a great deal of time in PvP, and as someone who doesn't have a VM, I had no issues whatsoever with the damage it dealt. If you have the ability to beat me in a 1v1, I know you had to work at it. Whether that means putting time into the raid to obtain a powerful weapon, practicing your gunslinger skills (not talking about hunters), or just being more talented than I am at Destiny. I'm not bad at PvP, check my stats. I'm not best either. Nor, do I claim to be. I just think that Bungie went about 15% overboard with the VM nerf.

                        • >Athens epilogue >viable in PVP Okay, that's where you're wrong. I have it three times on all three classes and it's not that great even before patch. Things like grim citizen or the new monarchy AR are better than that. BUT GRIZZY. ITS ROF AND 70 MAG IS GREAT. Yes, it's uses it VOG or night falls is probably the best imo. BUT, No. It's not in PVP. To even gain it's glass half full, you need to shoot 35 shots before even getting that plus the stability modifier. New monarchy's old needs to shoot 11 to take advantage of it. It also has better range and impact that prove to be more desirable than a shred of impact. Range, impact and stability. Tl;dr, AE serves as a SMG at best now. Barely if at all. In b4 AE fanboy rage.

                        • PvP players who wanted a VM nerf, wanted it for standard Crucible. That's all. The rest is on Bungie. Why cant standard Crucible be balanced independently of the rest of the game?

I Will complain a bought the nerf because it wasted 80+ hours for those who farmed it. and it leaves no point in doing raid hard mode if all guns are the same then no point in doing anything hard to earn any others!! the creators are stupid! stop trying to please the pvpers that cant do shit. because they are noobs. they will never get better with you nerfing anything. On the bright side i will pwn noobs even more now rofl!! makes game entertaining!!

Stay and performance wise it isn't any better than Shadow Price, Vanquisher, or Grimm. Bungie is trying to balance the game. It is better now because of it. Oh, and it was raw data driving the changes, not forum babies.
