First of all, please excuse my english since I'm not a native speaker.
This is to all people that brag about destiny having no story or being repetitive:
I think I play computer / console games for longer then most people here. I'm 30 and I was already playing counter strike on beta 3 up to version 1.6.
And let me tell you this - counter strike also had no freaking story. There were several maps and always the same weapons. (Well, sometimes they changed over the different versions, but nothing exciting) and still millions of people played CS no matter how repetitive the game was.
From my point of view destiny really does not have a great story. But I also don't miss it. Because it is all about game physics and skill. They managed to give as nice coop modes like the story or the strikes. And even raids at least similar to WOW where you need certain tactics and teamplay. And I believe bungie will not fail to enhance this game with even more cool raids and higher level caps as it was done with wow.
One thing enhancing destiny would be real clan activities like competitive private games with league points that can be achieved. But I think over time this will happen anyway.
So one question at the end: why do you need story on this game? It's a shooter with good game physics, coop and some little RPG Elements (not really much ;) ).
Please leave it a calm discussion.

Edited by Joaquin Dead: 10/13/2014 10:41:38 AMActually after seeing this on Kotaku via reddit the lack of story makes sense. I never played PSO. But my first MMO was PSU and been hooked ever since and I can't tell you what the hell the story was in PSU if my life depended on it. Yet I still had a blast. And PSO 2 is the best PS game I've played so far and has no story at all. But it's a blast to play and hopefully Destiny will be moving in that direction. So TL;DR Don't care as much about the story just that it plays more like PSO 2. The ghost could use some mag like properties as well

I actually love destiny. It's fun, I'm enjoying it. There's a million good things about the game. My only problem with no story is that they literally said there would be an epic story. And yeah it could be added in the DLC, but that's not "right" It would've been like me telling you I have your perfect car, making sure to point out that it's got brand new tires that I just put on, only for you to come pick it up, and it doesn't have any tires. For some people that might be okay. If it's what you really wanted and you would of paid the price then who really cares? If you were buying a car for transportation only you be pretty pissed, and some people bought his game solely for it's "epic story"

Because people don't like change. A lot of people wanted Destiny to be Halo +. They don't understand that it's a new IP. Bungie are trying to get away from Halo and not be a one trick pony. Funny thing is, people don't mention that the Halo story was spread out over 4? games. If you actually break down the 1st Halo, the story wasn't that good, and also patchy. But it didn't have all the extra stuff that Destiny has.

Me. I like story. I focus on PvE, and PvE in general is way shittier without any story. /thread

... You have better English than most Americans. Kudos, mate. And I would personally like a story because that's what we were told we would get. I personally like to play games for the storyline more than the gameplay; that's why FF7 is so much fun for me. The Grimoire in this game is great, but it isn't exactly a story. It's more of a history of the world we play in. I don't know. I feel like I'm just mindlessly killing things for no reason. I don't feel like there's a point for my character to run around shooting things. :c

The difference is that nobody advertised counter strike as an experience where you can "forge your own legend". It was a pvp shooter from the moment you saw it advertised to the moment it was installed and you were being called a homo by some pot smoking highscooler after being 1 shotted. Destiny made its bed, lit romantic candles and put on lingere and then immediately had a headache the moment your pants hit the floor. That's why people are angry. They were given false expectations of exotic pleasures and ended up with a pair of blues.

Because I would like to know who crota is, why he uses a sword, why it killed so many guardians and why I am able to use it even though I am "light" and it is powered by the "darkness." Oh, and why did it disappear? I NEED CONTEXT FOR MY ANTICS DAMMIT.

bungie said destiny would have a big story to tell and everyone fort it would be in the release then they would expand apon this eventually but what they did was sell us a chopped up game and it seems sell what should've/could've been in the game from the start for more money that has a lot of people pissed off including myself would you want to pay $30 000 for a $30 000 car and only receive the chassis and gear box then have to pay extra to assemble what you should of had from the start. end result car costs more than $60 000 not cool bungie if they release pretty much all the story for free than thats ok but it doesn't look like it :(

First of all, I think your English is just fine if it's not your first language (same here) haha. But for the story, it was dissapointing. At least the flow of the story. People need to connect in one way or the other with the story and the characters. To really believe you can make a change or achieve something. I couldn't care less about the few Destiny's characters for that matter. I really believe if there was an epic prologue, some plot twists, some more cutscenes and a different ending more people would like it. Even stories that are simple or unoriginal can be told in a brilliant way (like some movies) and entertain people. Loving this game btw, no hate. But the story clould've been way better imo.

Because... it's Bungie. We are used to receiving a great story along with our gameplay. Call us spoiled. You do make some good points though.
