The future of exotic weapons in Destiny

In Destiny 2, we need to be able to create exotic weapons. It came to me when I was working towards the Pocket Infinity bounty. I needed 200 fusion rifle kills in the weekly nightfall strike. The strike was Cerberus Vae III and the damage modifier was Arc. At the time, I did not have any arc fusion rifles as I had dismantled every single one I had for the previous step of the bounty. Luckily, there was an uncommon one available at the gunsmith, a Prost FR3. I then proceeded to do the grind of a lifetime (aside from the cave), killing everything in the first part of the strike with that fusion rifle. I must have gone to orbit and redone it at least eight times. Once I completed it, I noticed I had developed a sentimental attachment to that Prost FR3, and then it hit me: if we find a weapon we like (i.e. model, stats, elemental damage) we should be able to upgrade it from common to uncommon, then uncommon to rare and so on, all the while giving it different paint jobs and ornamentation. The result is a beast weapon that we have gone to hell and back with. Think about it. How many people have been talking about how awesome the Khvostov is? For reasons being that its the only present-day looking weapon in the game or just simple nostalgia. Imagine being able to take that crappy weapon you start out with, and turning it into something with a story. That's how its been with the exotic weapons right now right? A weapon, old or new that has back-story; a legendary with very specific stats and abilities. Getting Bungie to read this will be a stretch, but I think its a good idea.
