Right... so... I have this bounty for a "Depleted Hand Cannon"
Which dropped after a strike on the Moon... and then required a slew of Hive to be defeated on the moon. Then after the Hive were defeated... the Bounty changed to a PvP bounty... requiring Void damage.
There's a difference between a Challenge and Pissing The Player Off.
This is square on the side of: How to Piss Your Player Base Off.
As the character in game... I have no weapons that enable void damage. So if I wanted to pursue this exotic weapon I now have to either spec into and level a subclass with Void Damage; buy a weapon with Void Damage; or hope a weapon with void damage drops that is not a complete downgrade from the weapons I already have. As a character then If I wanted to pursue this bounty I have now have to leave my bounty inventory cluttered up until I am in a position to potentially fulfill the bounty.
As an average player... I do not engage in the PvP. I have no interest in the PvP. I do not take any of the PvP bounties offered by the Bounty Vendor. I automatically abandon every single PvP bounty given by the in-game mailing system. As a player I now have to question whether or not other Exotic Weapon bounties will also suddenly change bounty types mid-progress. If, as a player, I am locked out of obtaining a specific class of items because I do not want to play a part of the game that I do not enjoy, I am far more likely to go find a different game to play. In turn far less likely to spend any further money on future Destiny releases.
As a game reviewer.. Switching a higher-level reward chain from a PvE/Co-Operative base to a PvP base mid progress is BAD GAME DESIGN. This is the kind of basic design failure that gets whole numbers chopped off of review scores; right up there with a PC game release launching on Windows and skipping Linux; or leaving the Xbox User-Interface prompts in non Xbox platform releases.
As somebody leaving feedback... there probably is no method exposed by which the existing Bounty can be converted into a PvE/Co-Op reward chain. I'll probably deal with having to go participate in PvP just to see what the progress on the bounty looks like.

Its an exotic weapon... It should be challenging to win this gear. You should stick with blue weapons, your less likely to hurt yourself with those.
-
Bounty is good it makes you get out of toyr confort zone. It takes time and little of skill to get one of the best exotics in the game. Im no PvP player you can check my stats and I completed this part in hour and a half. Thw bounty should remain unchaged, makes Thorn a real exotic.
-
This bounty took me like 3-4 hours to do when I first got it. Granted that was pre dark below DLC and I have recently gotten another one but am too lazy to do it.
-
I completed this bounty the first month. And imo it is one of the better exotics. Over penetration, and a dot. It is beast and should be one of the more rewarding to obtain.
-
GUNSMITH
-
There should be a alternative to the PvP bounties, because "forcing" people to play PvP for a exotic its the same thing as them saying play it your way, but how we want, next thing we know, they will ask to buy it outside of the game no? Just like the DLC's. they promised a rich story and worlds to explore, yet where is that? DLC that's where, and it doesn't take that long to finish the main story AND the DLC, after that... you get nothing but hoping for what might droop next in the same mission/raid that are the same thing over and over. This way the may as well ask us to pay for them.
-
Just buy a void fusion rifle from the gun smith
-
meh...hard to get upset about this when it's so far down on the list of things that are poorly designed. Also kind of makes sense that you have to do a lot to get thorn because of how powerful it is in pvp.
-
If you think this hard how do you expect to beat the part after...
-
How did you defeat the hive on the moon if you have no void damage subclass or no void damage weapons? You have to do that part with void weapons/abilities also.
-
The bounties easy I did it and I'm very average at the game
-
Ok let me get this straight... You're mainly a PVE type player... Yet you don't have a special in each element? I can only assume this may be due to lack of knowledge about what the elements do so I'll enlighten you. (If not, I apologize for I do not mean to offend) The color of the shield signifies which element can take bonus damage to it. Ex) wizards have solar shields. So solar weapons do bonus damage. 2x to be exact. Using the wrong element cuts the multiplier in half - so 0.5x damage. That's why nightfalls are fun when it's arc burn (3x multiplier) and you're facing captains... With arc shields. Using a arc weapons net a 6x when shields are active! Btw - back to the thorn bounty. It takes some time but it's worth it. Thorns a great gun. I just finished it for the second time.

I myself am a PvE player as well, and I got the 500 points in about 2 1/2 hours yesterday.......I can't tell you how many times I've abandoned this bounty, cause I really don't care to much for the Crucible, but I really wanted this gun, so I said screw it, and finally buckled down and did the crucible....And guess what, after I was done, the PvE aspect of the game was still there waiting for me.......And just wait until you get to the next stage of the bounty....I can solo a nightfall and a weekly Heroic in about 30 minutes....But this shit took me a little over an hour....
-
This is a joke right? It's a challenge for this weapon. If u can't do it then save until u can get this for your warlock and try that. Or do the raids to get the void primary weapons. Or get a fast charge fusion rifle that may luckily have void and farm. The challenge is what separates the determined out.

Are you trolling

Edited by Trident-SMB: 2/15/2015 10:14:45 AMThat's the way the cookie crumbles... The Vanguard Quartermaster currently sell Void Fusion Rifle & Machine Gun... It takes no time at all to get 500 kills with these 2 weapons & if ya really want Thorn then you'll do it, if not, then never mind...
-
Dude I felt the same way. Im halfway through the boutny for Bad Juju now, and turned down the bounty for Thorn last week. I'm not abig fam of PvP either but if you want the weapons you need to work for them. At the same time you will improve your play in crucible. Dont get me wrong I'm still not that great, but I'm better than I was before I started this bounty
-
I absolutely suck at pvp and I did it in like 2 days, you'll get through it
-
-
List of exotic bounties from toughest to easiest. Thorn/Bad Juju>Pocket Infinity>Invective>SGA. I'm stuck on Xyor. Add lpeaden. Im lvl 29-30 on my hunter.
-
Buy a cheap void fusion rifle, void heavy. Its not a downgrade since the output is scaled for the crucible. If you go 1.0 k/d you can bang it out in a couple of hours. Wait until the xyor portion of the bounty, you might need to grab a friend or two to help. Hit me up on psn if you need help, i've done it for all three my classes
-
Bounties are optional tasks for special rewards. Bungie's prerogative is to expose you to all aspects of its game. You are being an immature, entitled brat. You don't deserve all rewards just for playing the aspects you pick and choose. If you want that freedom, make your own game.
-
As soon as I found out that I had to play PvP for the second part of the bounty, I scrapped the pistol. 500 kills in PvP would be worse than getting a root canal.
-
I really don't see why people complain about this bounty i enjoyed it and it was challenging but not overly difficult and for the void kills all you do is get a full set of void weapons like atheons epilogue 77wizard and harms way then go in crucible and get the kills you'll be done soon as long as you get kills

Edited by Ainz Ooal Kaza: 12/28/2014 5:17:43 PMFirst off, every Exotic Bounty requires multiple steps to complete. Three of the five currently offered require kills in the Crucible to finish them out. Thorn - A Light In The Dark requires a Phogoth strike, hive kills on the moon, crucible kills then another run on Phogoth. Invective - A Dubious Task requires 5 strikes without dying, 25 more kills and assists than deaths in the crucible, 50 special ammo synthesis Bad Juju - Toland's Legacy requires completion of a weekly or nightfall strike, complete 25 strikes, purchase a weapon frame from Xur, 10k points in Crucible Pocket Infinity - Shattered Memory Fragment requires a dead ghost from Venus, Eye of a Gatelord mission complete on Heroic, 200 kills with a fusion rifle in a nightfall Super Good Advice - A Voice In The Wilderness requires searching chests on Mars for a weapon frame, a purchase from Xur and 500 kills with heavy machine guns This knowledge comes from the more than 20 exotic bounties I've had across my 3 characters. Yes it's very basic discriptions of the bounties but it conveys the general idea. My suggestion, if you've never had an Exotic Mentor Missive then research the choices you're presented when you get your first...
-
I thought this bounty was insane until I grabbed void weapons and took the time to get good enough to grind it out. Was it hard? Yes. Did that make it incredibly rewarding to complete? Hell yes. Maybe my favorite moment so far in Destiny was knowing that last Crucible kill would get me one step from Thorn AND that it was just buffed to be worth the trouble. Put the time in to earn it. P. S. Xyor is also hard... Well... Mostly annoying... So be ready to post for a change to the bounty again after you get your 500 points. Or... Find people to help and knock it out.
