I tell you, it is a real pain in the arse getting the Ascendant Materials I need to upgrade my Legendary & Exotic gear. Public Events and Daily Heroic Story aren't enough... so I came up with a better idea on how we could get them.
Right now, there are only two uses for Motes of Light; either buy pretty decorations from your character from the Speaker, or gamble on Exotic engrams with Xur.
But what if we could buy Ascendant Materials with Motes of Light?
The way I imagined it was that you talk to the Speaker, and exchange 5 Mote of Light for either 2 Ascendant Energy or 2 Ascendant Shard. Simple enough. What do you think?
-
Couldn't you just simply buy an engram from Xur and then break it down for Ascendant materials?
-
I'm down, but then all highend gear that requires Asendant mats to upgrade will also now require 1 mote of light for each upgrade. For balance.

Edited by come find me: 10/9/2014 9:26:49 PMwhats frustrating is that there isnt a guaranteed way to get one or the other, i have 1.6squabillion Ascendant energies but all i need is 2 Shards, i have 80 motes saved up so this would work well for me :)
-
There's one issue with Motes of Light that I see and that is there is no way to regularly get them besides leveling your xp bar up again for one measly mote. If there was a better way to get them besides RNG then yes that would be nice otherwise keep it like it is.
-
Why would I spend motes of light on materials essential for leveling up end game gear when I can spend them playing the lottery or buying fancy and useless class items and emblems?
-
Pretty good turnout... as of now, the pole says 182 people voted "Yes" to buy Ascendant Materials with Motes of Light, where as about 26 stick-in-the-muds said "No".
-
What REALLY sucks is if you hover over the "materials" on a piece of gear it says under the description for "shards" and "energy" that they can "be found in the raid, winning in the crucible, and rarely in the world". Well, I have NEVER gotten one from the crucible. The raid makes a player rely upon forming a group to get them....thought this game was solo-able? And the "in the world", I think, means the Daily Public Event bonus from the postmaster which never seems to give the thing you need...need a shard, get an energy...need an energy, get a mote...need a mote, get a coin.....RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
-
lol do what you want... i have 72 ascendant shards so im good either way
-
Maybe Strange Coins instead? Motes of lights are way to easy to get
-
-
This is a really good idea actually but I feel it should be 7 motes for 1 of either shards or energy. Thus every 7 levels equals at least 1 shard or energy...and for all those who dont know what I mean. After level 20 when you gain a full bar of exp you are awarded a MOL.

Edited by mackyoshi: 10/8/2014 1:55:41 AMI'm voting no because although it's a good idea, I think it's unfair to the people who have already bought multiple engrams from Xur. Ascendant materials should cost 20 motes of light for 2 energy or shards. That way there's still a chance the exotic engram, which costs 23 motes of light, will yield 3 energy or shards when dismantled. Motes of light are pretty easy to come by and ascendant materials are supposed to be difficult to find or else the game loses pretty much all meaning. Vault of Glass (and hopefully raids in general) is what gets you the most ascendant materials, and it needs to stay that way. You 120 people might be quick to vote yes to this, but you'd also be quick to get bored of this game if ascendant materials were being handed out like donuts.

Even if they made things expensive with glimmer.say 25000, ur max glimmer, for buying something hard to get.even 1 shard id pay that!i only use glimmer for ammo at th mo n waste it when i dont need to buy ammo.
-
Yes, i keep hacking up motes of light and I hardly find any shards. Buying shards with mote boogers makes perfect sense
-
Dude I have gotten like 12 ascendant materials in 100+ hours of play. Such BS. I am stuck at 27 cause I can't upgrade. Im about throw destiny in the trash can.
-
Absolutely. Mol is experience. In rpgs experience should make you stronger.
-
Not a bad idea. You're right that it's a little silly that your Motes aren't really good for anything. Maybe they intend to have them useful for stuff later?
-
It's a good idea. I like the fact it takes me a long time to upgrade everything though. I hate getting to end game fast on a video game, and this would speed the process up considerably. That's the only reason I voted no, just out of personal preference.
-
I agree. Hopefully, when the expansions come out and we have a new tier of gear to get, they will have to come up with a way to get us to get rid of all the upgrade mats we have and all the glimmer buffs.
-
This needs to happen asap.
-
Totally agree with this! We also should be allowed to sell Armor/weapon parts back for glimmer or motes of light/strange coins. I have a ton of these and I will never use all of them.
-
Yes please add and put this in feed back NOW!!!
-
Put it in feedback section I want this now lol
