Let's Talk About The Vex (and Exo) - Theories and Lore Discussion

I've read as much as I can about Destiny's lore but I haven't seen much about theories on how the Vex were created. Obviously they were created by some (organic) race of intellectual beings or possibly a warmind? But who and why? Eventually their conscious grew and they took control of themselves and became a devastating force. Sort of like the Geth in ME. After putting some thought into it, I don't have much but this could definitely be a start. This might sound like a huge stretch but do you guys think the Vex and the Exo have some sort of connection? The fact that both their names are 3 letters and both have "Ex" in them. One ends with Ex the other starts with Ex. Ha, I know it sounds like some crazy conspiracy theorist but bare with me. I looked into it a little more and combined Vex and Exo to get "Vexo" and looked it up to see if it meant anything and here's what I got. http://en.glosbe.com/la/en/vexo It's of Latin origin pronunciation: /ˈweːk.soː/ Some of the translations to English are: To annoy, trouble, disquiet, disturb, harass, irritate, jolt, plague, toss violently. Maybe they come from the same origin? IMO I think It's safe to say both come from the same origin and serve the same purpose but obviously for different causes. I just hope we eventually get to find out about their origins and why they were created and what was their original purpose? Discuss..

  • If Skynet had won the war against humanity, what would have been the next step? That's how I see the Vex: an ancient race of machines that have long since killed its creators that now scour the stars turning planets into machines, attempting to achieve a perverted machine version of a technological singularity by weaving themselves into the fabric of reality in the Vault of Glass.

    The exo were created at Clovis Bray in freehold during the golden age. The vex are Coterminus, they exist in all time streams concurrently. I significantly doubt they are of relation

    • I think you are on to something and yet a little off at the same time. Let me explain. We all know that humans created the Warminds (i.e. Rasputin). I think it's safe to say that with the ability to create sophisticated AI like that, there's the distinct possibility that humans could have created the Exo. With that said, the Vex are time-traveling bastards. I get the distinct impression that with Rasputin showing up in so many places and having "faced the darkness and survived," that he was actually corrupted by the darkness. Eventually (of he hasn't already) he will create the Vex as an extension of his consciousness. They will then time travel all over the place and complete the cycle of what they've already been doing/are doing/will do.

      • Also, in the Grimoire Card called Ghost Fragment: Exo, it says that the Exo were made by humans.

        • I think they're more than likely very similar to each other, one's just born from a different source. But from the lore that surfaced recently about the Vault of Glass, the Vex are unquestionably evil;
They pretty much want to become one with reality, and rule over it supremely and infinitely.
They undoubtedly need to be destroyed and defeated. In fact, they're probably the most dangerous thing to every single race, considering their ultimate end game plan. The Exos are androids with souls, essentially; I don't think they're all that special (but I could be totally wrong; it's way to early to tell) Though they're interesting indeed, the lore behind the Vex intrigues me more.
