That's Shady Bungie
So here's how I feel about the recent loot changes my dear Bungie.
1. You upgraded ascendant materials to legendary. Why? Because yes. Makes no sense.
2. You increased the chance to get legendaries a from engrams. Yay, but..
3. Those legendaries are are usually ascendant materials now. Go figure...
4. You were sneaky and decreased the drop rate for legendary engrams and completely pulled them from public events and crypt-arch ranks.
Basically what has happened is you increased the chance to get a legendary item from an engram and took away the actual engrams. AND! Even if we get a legendary item, it is far more likely to be ascendant materials since you so conveniently promoted them.
That's very shady. Gear was the only "endgame" you had and you just made it more difficult to acquire the gear.

Again, the game has been out for about a month. Don't expect to get everything right away. Why do you want it to be easy? It's should be a special thing to have special gear...

So when a currency becomes devalued (In this case engrams and upgrade materials) you can deal with this inflation by reducing the currency in circulation. This is what's happened and the outcry here is not due to a problem but rather the previous glut of currency people had taken as normal. The LootCave(TM), multi-character S-Coin buying, Queen loot farming, etc destabilized the Destiny economy and Bungie has stepped in and added some regulation to bring currency values more in line with their intended ranges (Blue being relatively common, Purple being more rare and requiring faction standing with occasional drops along the way and Exotics being hyper rare and the result of end-game content and difficult multi-part bounties). The same goes for upgrade materials. If you don't like the current economy consider if thats a result of the previous norm (considered broken by the developers and most players) or an actual lack of utility. You can buy a full set of purples. You can buy an exotic for left and right sides. You only need end-game materials for the last few upgrade slots so you should be LL 26-27 before that's a roadblock. Seems fine to me. The early investors in the unregulated economy made out like bandits (which is what they are), it wasn't tenable and I'm glad the frontier days of Destiny are over. Cheers!

1 ReplyEdited by kyuubi_clone: 10/6/2014 6:05:28 PMi get legendaries (weapons and materials) from the cryptarch now. i have also gotten legendary drops since the patch. the patch has been great. now you can make your own luck and increase your chances by doing strikes! thanks bungie! remember guys....it's not legendary or exotic if everyone can get it easily.....

I got more legendaries from engrams the first two days after the patch than I got total before the patch. 3. It's still way better than what we had before. As much as I complain about the game, this is one thing they actually did right. I'm getting new guns faster than I can upgrade them so I'm always happy to get more ascendant materials. 4. I agree, nerfing the engram rates kind of defeats the point of the cryptarch fix.

Not shady at all, it was the intention that legendary items are very rare, so most purple engrams gave blue items. To take away the disappointment they changed the engrams so that purple engrams always give legendary items. So OF COURSE they lowered they drop rate for purple engrams, otherwise everybody ran full purple within two days.... Promotion of ascendent materials only makes sense, they are used for upgrading legendary weapons and as soon as you have your gear you need that stuff...

1 ReplyOkay where do I start.. 1. they upgraded ascendant materials to better represent what they are used for, obvious reason. 2. They made you able to get legendary guaranteed from engrams. (This now includes ascendant materials) which is okay. 3. I personally have never gotten an ascendant material from a legendary since the patch, and I've gotten around 10 - 15 so obviously it's still using RNG and you just have shit luck. 4. They did not remove these again you just have shit luck. 5. My final point, games like destiny aren't meant to be completed in 2 weeks or so, just because you liked that you got a lot of legendary before the patch but you didn't like the chance of things doesn't mean they will keep the drop rate for legendary and make them guaranteed that would be idiotic for them to do, as I said the game is not meant to be "beaten" in 2 weeks or so. You obviously have seen the patching of the farming methods, then you should know bungies intentions in how they would like for destiny to be played. In this moat recent patch they added cryptach engrams to the daily story, weekly heroics/nightfall and the vanguard tiger playlists, you can get rare and legendary from these so please stop complaining, think a little about why things are, and why you have shit luck, and move on. Before the patch EVERY SINGLE TIME I leveled my cryptarch I got a legendary engram...(always turned blue or uncommon bastard cryptarch) But now I NEVER have received a single legendary from rank up I have three characters that are all level 27 and above I rank all of them up and nothing at all so far

2 RepliesThats so true. I was actually doing the queens bounty's to get the legendary's to dismantle for the ascendants. Gave me something to do and a way to finally get some gear upgraded. Then all of that ended. Not like i could farm a million a day. You mean I can actually find ascendant materials now. Big ole knife stab right in the back. Well no reason to do queens bounty's now. Thanks for taking away something good.

If by cryptarch ranks you mean ranking up and receiving free engrams, they still give you legendaries. I got 2 legendary engrams yesterday.

I collected two cyptarch packages from the postmaster. 2 blue engrams, two legendary engrams. I decrypted the legendary engrams back to back and they were both exotic. My friend cried because he hasn't had a legendary engram drop yet. Problem? 😎

Total ninja nerf on drops as more and more people are coming up on the point where lack of legendary drops means zero progression. Well played, Bungie. You showed how incapable you are of making this game last without artificially stretching out the grind.

At the same time, its equally difficult to upgrade the gear to get to a higher lvl. That aspect is more balanced I guess. Id prefer materials because it makes getting gear more rewarding and you usually dont constantly change it when you get more like we used to
