exotic bounties and making people play crucible to complete them
yes, while this OP is specifically about the thorn, its the fact that it was the first exotic bounty i got, and the gun i wanted. if it had been the bad juju i was after, this post would still exist, but the example, or specific situation would be about that gun instead,
my argument is mainly around the concept if forcing players into the crucible (or visa versa) for content. no other MMO style game does this. and as long as this concept exists, i'll always fight against it.
i have completed this bounty btw.
dont care what CoD fan -blam!-wits troll about this. this is still the worst thing about destiny. having an exotic that requires someone to go somewhere where they dont like because A) not good enough, and B) too many -blam!-y CoD fan boys is -blam!-ing moronic.
i tried tonight and with a controller im just not cut out to do it. i'd get 5 points if im lucky in a round, and lose it all the next.
worst -blam!-ing decision ever bungie. totally, utterly, and completely moronic. who ever created these bounties needs a kick in the -blam!-ing balls, several times, with a 50 meter run up.
EDIT: ok. while i till maintain my position that forcing someone to do this is a monumentally bad idea, and flawed in every conceivable way, the main problem i have with this part of that bounty (the one for the hand cannon), is that you lose 2 points on death. for those players of destiny that cannot compete well enough in the crucible to maintain a semi decent k:d ratio, this negative means that this bounty is not doable.
and the extended problem is that with this "mechanic", bungie can say that you cannot complete certain story missions without involving the crucible. which will mean that people wont be able to complete the story if they cannot maintain a semi decent k:d ratio. this scares me.
EDIT#2: possible fixes
1-remove the negative and either A) increase the points cap needed, or B) reduce the points per kill
2-have options for people to choose either crucible or non crucible content for specific stage.
3- remove the void requirement
4- make a map that will let me play any style instead of charging around like a halo/cod boffin. Let me climb and hide in corners, let me snipe and displace. The current maps do not allow this.

4 RepliesMuch like the OP, I purchased this game for the PvE. I do not recall any developer stating that PvP would be a mandatory part of the game prior to launch. I hate PvP with the heat of a thousand white hot suns. My ex boyfriend who is really good at PvP played my character and got me the 10k points in crucible for the Bad Juju. He's also going to do my PvP for Thorn. If you have a friend who is good at PvP, ask them to do that portion of the bounty for you. Let them come to your house or you go to theirs of course, don't share your login - I shouldn't even have to say that but these days........

5 RepliesSorry but the skill difference is huge and I refuse to continue. Weapons and gear mean nothing, shotguns are overpowered and need fixing, and the wankeds that actually play in the crucible are in empathetic assholes. The crucible isn't even tied into the story, your just forcing people that don't want to be there to play it. Stupid stupid stupid.

now, given that i do not play this game anymore, i jump on every 2 or 3 months to check out the forums and games direction, get depressed, and leave it for another couple months. but whats interesting, is that this thread comes up, and is still read on a regular basis. this means that its still an issue for a lot of people. and its a real shame, that bungie are yet again, not acknowledging their customers issues about this. as it still clearly is.

I won't lie, I'm not any good in crucible, don't like it never will. If I play anything its rumble. The fact that they force u to play it for an exotic bounty stinks. Why make me play a playlist I have no intrest in? I now delete all exotic bounties, they are no fun to me...they feel more like a chore.

i agree with him, im not terrible at pvp but i just dont like it and forcing me to play it is bs. like he said on his edit we should be able to choose pve or pvp for bounties. for those of you saying oh he sucks at pvp thats because he plays pve just like pvp players are not as good at pve

I don't enjoy pvp and it sucks I'm forced to play it if I want to earn exotics - at the very least remove the negatives if you get killed. Better yet offer alternate pve tasks as well.

Agreed wholeheartily, nobody should be forced to do something they don't want to, this is a game NOT North Korea dictatorship... let's face it, bungie wanted to make a pvp cod clone, but needed the coop and pve players money, hence the fake promises of beta weekend and the "couldn't-care-less-about-coop-&-pve-players-complaints" attitude. I really would like a time machine to return to launch day and stop me from purchasing this "game" that is only enjoyable for pvp cod fanboys.

But i feel for others,stupid really ....but suppose thats why bungie expect you to earn it..

I currently have two exotic bounties (10,000 in crucible and 500 void in crucible) awaiting completion but I just cannot progress them. It is literally going to take me weeks to complete even the 10,000 one doing a part of the game I have come to loathe and detest. There is no fun value whatsoevr in spending 10-15 minutes (or however long a Contol/Clash match takes) just getting killed over and over again and maybe trying to make 300 points of the 10,000 I need. At that rate it will take me 33 matches - so about 8..9 hours to complete the one bounty. Doing something with no payback/fun value whatsoever. I managed to get to 1,000 of the 10,000 but I'm about ready to give up and just go back to PvE which is always fun. As for the 500 Void where death keeps knocking you back that's really going to be a case o0f one step forward, two steps back - can't see a time where I'd ever have any hope of completing it. And yes, folks I freely admit this makes me a crap player - some of us are. It just seems a shame that some of the goals in the game can only be completed via a Crucible route. If they wanted to make it "tricky" in PvE how about something like 100,000 XP without dying - I'm pretty sure I could actually achieve that! I suppose the idea of the Crucible based exotic weapons bounties is to give mainly PvE players a taste of what PvP is like. Well I've tasted it and it's not something I want to repeat - sorry.

7 RepliesBungie will never change this because if you've noticed from the very beginning this game has been PVP one sided. How many vendors are there for PVP players to buy armor from, four. How many vendors are there for PVE players to buy armor from, one. How many special events have there been for PVP, three How many special events have there been for PVE, one. ( and they nerfed the rewards half way through it) You used even be able to trade materials for marks so at least then people who can't stand PVP had a chance to own something other then vanguard gear and this they even got rid of. They listen to every complaint from the PVP crowd about nerfing weapons which only messes up PVE. Bungie doesn't really care how the changes they make effects PVE players nor do they seem to really want to better this game for PVE players in any way.

1 ReplyThis is moronic thinking on your part. If you dont want to play the crucible then dont. The point is that you then dont deserve the reward. If a guardian cant maintain a decent K/D to complete the bounty then he/she needs to practise. If you practise and get better you might enjoy the crucible more. What do you want to use the thorn in PVE for anyway?

2 RepliesThe easiest way to get the Thorn bounty done is to use Praedyths Revenge with field scout for 6 shots and the lowest zoom scope. I knocked it out in 5-10 matches after putting off doing the bounty for a month or two. If you can get decent at headshots or even just two body shots and hanging back watching cap points on Control you can get the bounty done. I lag like hell in crucible and I still managed it decently. I'm not advocating Bungies decision to make some bounties include pvp at all by the way.

1 ReplyI get your arguement and frustration, but you can't make the arguement that bungie is robbing you of content. First off you're making the decision to not do PvP and, as a result, you're not getting a certain gun. Second of all, I could use that same arguement to say raid guns are unfair because I don't want to do raids. The guns you get from these bounties are EXOTIC, meaning they are rare and are not going to just be handed to you. The particular criteria for this exotic weapon requires a well rounded player. I mean hell it's even harder to get the vex mythoclast and that's obviously not unfair.

I'm a pvp guy. and I'm forced to go into end game content in pve to get certain things I want. Do I whine? no. I don't like hard mode. ( I have hard mode completions anyway) But i'm forced to do so in order to get guns like VM and necrochasm. Should bungie allow those things to be earned in pvp as well? No. If you want something that bad go out and earn it. If you refuse to do so you don't want it bad enough.
