Genuine thank you to Bungie engineers

First let me give a short intro. of myself. I'm a system software engineer working in Germany and I personally know how difficult it is to write high-quality software and how many countless hours of work developers put into writing, debugging and making a polished product and despite all efforts there will always be people who have problems with it and leave comments like "your game is crap" or worse. Despite all the criticisms this game has gotten, some of it is well justified, I want to take a few minutes of my day off to thank all developers at Bungie who worked on this game. I've not played a Bungie game before and I come from a PC gaming background and so the whole concept of shooters on consoles with a controller always made me go 'meh'. Bungie changed all that. I still suck at Crucible with a controller, but I've not had this much fun in a game in a while. I even went out and bought a Mic to enjoy playing it with other people (oh and can't wait for 1.0.2 patch with better voice comm. on matchmaking!). The gun play mechanics, the satisfying 'thwok' of melee, the movement and verticality, the precise hit detection is unlike any other game I've played on a console. Destiny is no Unreal Tournament, but for a console FPS it's bloody damn good. EDIT: I didn't mean to sound like a PC elitist lol, I love consoles games just as much but for FPS nothing beats keyboard+mouse and large field-of-view IMHO. I also realize most developers are tongue tied thanks to Activision and general company policies, and even for things that are NOT your fault, you cannot tell that to people, part of being in a large corporation. While I understand that few of the hate comments comes from people who -want- to love the game, it can sometimes be crappy to read strong worded/insulting comments when you have clearly worked hard on making this game. I know anyone reading the forums will think this game is a total disaster, but in reality I want you to know there are people like me who love this game, maybe because we had lesser expectations to begin with and we are willing to be patient for you to iron out the issues. Edit: I am -not- claiming the game is perfect but that doesn't mean we can't be thankful for the work they put in so far. Many aspects of the game -are- really polished. Bungie have already showed with patch 1.0.2 they do listen to feedback by addressing the loot system issues and this is just the first of several such patches. I'm also not saying that we as consumers have no right to complain. We most definitely do, but that doesn't mean we need to be nasty about it just to get a point across. There are lots of ideas and little no-brainer fixes/enhancements that I'd like to share with you, but that will detract from the intention of this post, which is to Thank you Bungie, for expanding your horizons and reaching a wider audience and making this awesome game (IMO). You may or may not read this, you might be busy debugging and writing code all day, but if you do, keep up the awesome work! There are people who love this game! - A fellow software developer.

    • I absolutely enjoy this game! Most fun I have had in this console generation. The gameplay is just perfection. I am generally not a PVP guy, but I am slowly becoming one. The story is actually really good. How they chose to tell the story was a misstep in that I think the grimoire should be in game accessible. Anyway, the level of detail in the art and the leveling system and future expansion have me hooked.

I have been developing software professionally for over 20 years. I am not thankful for what Bungie has given me - both from a point of view of what this game is and what it is not, and technically spoken. There are design oversights in this program that are hair raising, be it the lack of a music volume control, a completely senseless application of RNG, or an error-prone networking code. I am not thankful because I have paid a sh!tload of money for this game, and game devs and designers are not my gracious benefactors - they got their pay from my money. I stand appalled at the attitude of butt kissing lackey-dom you are exposing with your post. "Untertanengeist" is what is coming to my mind.

        • I appreciate the 1/2 of the game crossed the finish line. Just wish they would have delayed until the other half caught up. Must be hell at Bungie right now - just post crunch time and its STILL crunch time and will be for the foreseeable future as there is a lot to have catch up.

        • Yeah engineers thank you for the work... now hire a darn writer and an MMO expert so we can get some decent grouping/communication options that isn't dated 2001!

          • this game could have been tremendous...instead it's just blah....i keep thinking about the original vision of destiny and all that could have been. that game could have become legend....instead we get this watered down version that while playing when my GF says "honey i need you to help with blah blah blah" i have not problem dropping the controler. i was really looking for a reason to break up with her and the original vision of destiny was the basket i put all those eggs into. don't get me wrong for some reason i don't understand i keep playing it over and over agian at the same time thinking "wow this is really boring" or "what is the story/reason behind this particular event i'm doing". remember grape drink and grape juice look the same and sometimes taste the same but they are not the same formula. right now destiny is grape drink and the original vision is the grape juice i salavate for.

          • I agree. Tech-wise, this thing is a marvel. It's smooooooth. Have you experience lag anywhere? That's AMAZING. It looks like geographical matchmaking. Seamless transition between world instances and subzones. Load balancing of world instance.

            • Lets not blame his -blam!-ing stupid post because he's a PC gamer. Typical "console gamers" buy every single new title every year by the same companies, knowing they will be the same and also suck, and then complain about it. They continuously put their hand in the fire to see if they'll get burned and their hands are down to bone at this point from being burned so many times. Then again in the end there's no one group of people that got boned by bungie. We all did. We are all a part of the scam that is this game. Instead of thinking slingshot ( make a good product and watch the sales and reviews only go up and up), they are thinking boomerang like the astounding amount of games that are now (make a shitty half assed game, market it very well, then when everyone leaves for realizing its shit, get the equivalent number of people to get dlc and come right on back to really nothing being changed). That's what is going to happen, that's what is happening, and that's what will happen for the rest of this games franchise and so far every single title coming to "Omfg next generation consoles." I can honestly say I don't enjoy being a PC gamer. I find a controller and a tv more fitting by far but it's litterally impossible to find a good console anymore except for nintendos games if you were already into those series, and I don't have the money for another console. Xbox and ps4 have turned out to be nothing but dlc, season pass, give us more money, plastic bricks that have not had a single quality title yet. Every single anticipated game is following this pattern and nobody is learning. If I have to sit on the computer playing indie games or whatever the -blam!- I have to do for enjoyment so my wallet isn't vacuumed into my console for terrible games and their dlc, then so be it. I'm already done with destiny and it's entire franchise, and I had gotten the legendary edition. I don't even care that the season pass was included, I will not be participating and hopefully by looks of people's reactions, they won't either.

                • Respectable post :p It does have a nice polished feel to the game mechanics. Its still lacking in a lot of obviously dropped/absent content which overshadows their hard work unfortunately.

                • ABSOLUTELY. THe graphics and game play are SUPERB. The netcode is amazing, no lagginig yet and I have a mediocre connection. They have to seperate the ill gotten ranks from the 'loot side of destiny' from the crucible. The crucible should have it's own rank

                • Truthfully ... its about time some had an up beat post about this game Im now a level 23 titan and YES I've hashed and rehashed every mission more then twice over But I find the game is more about the character ... building him/her up, changing up the load outs, trying to find that once peice of armor for hours on end, or a weapon And then you have the upgrades, what one best fits your style of play Ooohhhh and the mistakes of thinking this armor over that armor just to find out its not exactly what you expected When bungie said this game is about making your own stories they really did mean it We all have a story about how _____ did _____ so I ____ and ___ died For example ... last game mission you battle 3 very large very mean vex things Well my fireteam had the first one done pretty quickly sooo the second became the new focus ... but just as it started I tossed a grenade at its feet .. the nad went off and the vex STUMBLED OFF THE EDGE lol killed its self by falling off the edge lol I love the stories I love the details I love the game ... for those who dont and those who seem to be rage quitting Your just freeing up the servers for the rest of us

                  • This is clearly not the game Bungie planned on, content-wise, but its definitely a Bungie game in engineering and design terms. That's a good thing.

                  • I may rant a LOT about the problems this game has, but the engineering, design, and art involved is hardly the issue. I love the amount of detail everything has. Especially the way everything functions. I also love that new Mash-Up engine! CAN I PLEASE BUY IT?!!
