Thoughts on Destiny, gaming and "raging" from a real gamer.

There's a lot of people on the forum complaining. Complaining about how they've been supporters of Bungie since Halo or Halo 2. How Activision are moustache-twirling villains hiding content from the average joe gamer. How Bungie have lied, cheated and stolen the real "Destiny" from them. I find it baffling. I really do. I'm an adult. Gaming is (and always has been) my premiere hobby. It is how I've relieved stress and enjoyed myself for 30+ years. I also do other forms of gaming (boardgaming, 40k, X-Wing etc.) and rpgs - but computer games have always been my hobby of choice. Since my Commodore 64 (and prior to that everything from the ZX81 to the Vic20 and Dragon32) through to the Commodore Amiga, Sega Megadrive, Sega Mega CD, Super Nintendo, N64, Gamecube, Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance, Sony Playstation, Xbox, Sony Playstation 2, Nintendo DS, Nintendo DSi XL, Sony PSP, Wii, Sony Playstation 3, Sony PS Vita, WiiU and finally the Sony Playstation 4. I'm also heavily into PC Gaming. In that time I've played a lot of games. I've seen the rise and fall of some great gaming companies. But much like my own taste in music, I like what I like. Which company makes or produces a game is pretty irrelevant to me. I don't buy a game on previous pedigree, but on whether it is something I want to play. I've built my own gaming tastes over the years and know what I will or won't like. Apart from a couple of oddities like World of Warcraft and League of Legends (which took up, and in LoL's case still takes up, a lot of gaming time), I've always been jumping from game to game to feed the hobby I love. Now I'm on Destiny. I didn't really follow the development of the game, so didn't bring much expectation with me. I've never really been a fan of the FPS genre, especially on consoles. Left 4 Dead is probably the only FPS I liked and that was a fairly simple run-n-gun game with mates (much like Destiny) outside of the original Halo. But close to release I looked into Destiny a bit more. PS4 games (originals not remakes) have been pretty thin on the ground (understandable this early into a new consoles lifespan) so it seemed like a decent purchase. For my £40 I've picked up a game which, at the last count, I've spent the better part of 60-70 hours on (I've even re-rolled a level 20 and a level 16 just to change character race/appearance). Even if you take that to be 60 hours, it's been 66p an hour. That is a real bargain whichever way I look at it. I've played it daily since release, love both the pve and pvp elements and see a lot of potential to keep me here and bring me back. As much as you might want to label me as a fanboi, an apologist or even a member of the fictional DDL (Destiny Defence League) I am perfectly entitled to enjoy a game and especially appreciate the value I'm getting if that value is 66p an hour (or better). This Friday in the UK Shadow of Mordor is out, I've pre-ordered that and am looking forward to playing it. As a gamer, even one who likes Destiny, I don't feel the need to be beholden to a game/franchise. I can dip into other games and come back. I still League of Legends, still have to finish my play-through of Last of Us (the PS4 version), still have yet to finish Watchdogs, Diablo 3 and Murdered Soul Suspect. I've got plenty of games in my collection and happily play them all. Dragon Age Inquisition is coming too. So I find it crazy to see some of the rage threads I see on this forum. If I hadn't liked Destiny, I wouldn't be here. Nor do I want Destiny to consume my gaming life to the point I don't want to play other games. Right now it's a great game I'm enjoying - I've used my PS4 more since Destiny than ever before. But I will switch games and come back to Destiny. Too many people on this forum act as if Destiny is their only gaming option, that they waited on it for 5 years and now its here and it didn't meet their expectations they throw their toys out of their pram and cry about it. But in all the years I've gamed, I've never done that. Ragers/complainers are like the hooligans from the 80s and 90s who went to football (soccer) games to be idiots and start fights. They aren't real gamers, just like the hooligans weren't real football fans. At the end of the day, I'm a gamer. I can accept these are games. I can also accept that if you don't like something, you should walk away from it. I'm sure this message won't be heard, but my point stands.

It's an amazing game and these bastards act like it's a -blam!-ing 8 bit game that didn't satisfy their balls .
