How far away is the last city from the Cosmodrome?

I have wondered this for awhile. Anyone got an answer?

  • http://www.polygon.com/2015/1/20/7862009/destiny-tower-last-city-location-science-sun ^^^Very important.^^^ I did the work myself over a course of a day and got the same results. By the way, the Cosmodrome is heavily based off of Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, which was part of the former USSR and is still used by the Russians for rocket launches. Look it up. In response to Flywheel, if they were really homers, they could just choose Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, a lot closer than Baikonur. The Horn is actually the Brazilian coast, if you made a direct trip to Baikonur from La Serena, Chile (The approximate location of the Last City) eastwards, you would never see the Horn, period. It is 15,712 kilometers that way. This may seem far, so how are the Fallen "scratching at the walls", you may ask? A few theories. 1. The Fallen and Hive not only occupy the Cosmodrome, they also occupy everything else on Earth except the City. Some possible additions to the original game would have been Old Accra (Ghana), Old Chicago (Illinois, US), and Mumbai (India). This means they could very well be crawling over the ruins of everything around La Serena (Just a guess for the positioning), including my home... 2. Even if they occupied only Baikonur and the rest of the Aral Sea (Which is the Forgotten Shore, the real sea itself has been shrinking and the old fishing boats are real. Look those up, it's amazing what has happened), the Fallen still have pretty powerful and fast ships, hence the invisibility and the Ketch in the first level just showing up and knocking over a colony ship. And look at us Guardians. We have fast-moving ships capable of warping to Saturn.

  • IMO Bungie are being homers, and the City is in the Canadian rockies.

    • If you look the city is east of the Horn of Africa. The only thing that is due east of it is southern India. The city is surrounded by mountains so is not in the ocean. India seems to be the only explanation

    • Exactly 1 loading screen away. Well, maybe 2 if you gotta go to orbit first. 1-2 loading screens away.

      • Either in Europe (perhaps England?) Or in North America between North USA and Canada.

      •
I have wondered this for awhile. Anyone got an answer?
I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain..... But in all seriousness I've wondered as well. I've also pondered why they feel the need to have us exit the atmosphere to head there. While I understand it's a loading screen I felt that the earth should be handled differently, or at least Gove us that epic fly by of the city up to the tower when we head to the tower. You could even have it hover over Russia when "returning to orbit" from earth until a non-earth locale was selected. And why the hyper space jump to the moon? I mean if we are traveling FTL seems like the loading screen would be shorter lol.

        • From what I could make out through the clouds in the cinematic going to the Tower, it seems like you can make out the Horn of Africa, putting the city somewhere around the Middle East/ Fertile Crescent area. Just what I gathered from what I saw. :)

        • Considering you can see the wall from the tower, I'd say it's pretty close. Unless they build walls 100s of miles out of the same junk materials.

        • If you look at the select destination screen, the traveler appears to be somewhere over eastern Canada.

          • Same here! Why do you have to go into orbit if the last city and russia are both on earth?

After the tutorial level when you get the ship and you fly over the mountains and through a huge storm, so I would say it has to be a few hundred miles at the least. That's an enormous range of mountains, maybe the Urals? Also, the Forgotten shore seems to have once been a decent sized port, Maybe the Cosmodrome is here? https://www.google.com/maps/place/Arkhangelsk,+Arkhangelsk+Oblast,+Russia/@64.5774,40.3898224,84298m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x441833f755c232e1:0x403eec437ac89a31 Which means if those are the Urals, we fly East. But this is all speculation on my part. However, I did just find this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baikonur_Cosmodrome
