For those of you using successful MMORPG expansions as justification...

...for Bungie's current lack of content, stop right there! OBJECTION!! I'm off work so if you're interested in my ideas and would like to reflect and share your own, feel free! I've listed them in EDIT 4! I'm also rewriting this so that it's not being done from my phone and from a computer, in such a way that removes all the boisterous posts and gets to the point. How many of you actually played WoW? I've seen on these forums a growing trend the past few days which results in posts stating that this game is much like World of Warcraft; devoid of lore, gameplay, and proper progression. There's been other comparisons as well, such as Guild Wars 2, Boarderlands 1 & 2, and even Final Fantasy 14: ARR. I don't know about the majority of you guys, but I've played most of these games form their dawn. I started with Warcraft 1 thorugh 3 and eventually Vanilla WoW. I played Guild Wars 1, I couldn't get into Guild Wars 2 after capping, and I strongly supported FF14 (before ARR and after even). These games quintuple the content currently available in Destiny. World of Warcraft in 2004 had more content than this game could hold a candle light to, at least at its current state. The reason being is because tons of the core lore was removed from the game and placed into Grimoire Cards. The point of this post was to invoke thought and push people away from making comparisons between apples and oranges (thanks to the user that used this). What can Bungie do to make this game better? In fact, why do you people continuously compare WoW to Destiny? I was thoroughly satisfied with each and every WoW Expansion. They were truly granting us hundreds of new missions and large, vast, unexplored areas. The first of its kind was amazing and Destiny is nothing like it. So, why? There is very little fulfillment in it. Some of you say, "Well, quit. You won't be missed." But I won't, because I wanna provide some criticism, ideas, and contribute as a fan to what this game could be. I'd like for our complaints to do to Destiny what it did for FF14. For those that don't know, FF14 originally dropped the ball. It was a horrible game, literally releasing an alpha. People didn't buy into the bullshit, some of us stayed, some of us left, and eventually they were forced to remake the game to FF14 A Realm Reborn. I found it amazing how all the fans stayed with Square Enix through their -blam!- up but wouldn't tolerate the trash they released before ARR. It took many of us to agree that FFXIV was trash before Enix stood up and said, "okay, we are releasing what we promised." Anyway, I don't think anyone should defend Bungie. This is clearly a different game than what was advertised! Don't talk about expansions from other, more successful games when you don't understand how it even came to fight for that expansion. This game is incomplete. This isn't a ten year project. Instead let Bungie know what is wrong. Push for a rerelease. If you're a fan, do what you can. Voice your dissatisfaction and don't put down others for voicing there's because it can't be ignored forever. Eventually the media will see it and Destiny will experience a helluva backlash. Just look at what we are to get from this week's patch. Off of two weeks of complaining about a broken loot system. Imagine what we could do with a month of complaining of a broken game. Just food for thought. Edit: And before you blame everything on Activision, just remember who owns Blizzard. ;) Edit 2: Consumers have the right to complain. Edit 3: For those that miss the point if my post, to summarize and down scale it, complaining and providing intricate feedback isn't going to harm this game, but make it better. To compare two world's, one from Blizzard, one from Bungie, without taking into consideration all the facts that made their games successful is fairly stupid.dont defend this broken game. We can list new IP's that have had more content upon release and had a much smaller budget and time scale (Tera, Blade and Soul, etc). They chopped your game up. Feel free to bitch until they give you what they promised. And lastly. WOW had more content in Vanilla than Destiny does within its game and hastily written Grimoire Cards if you want to go there. Tl; dr: If you can't research Blizzard, WoW, and their content at launch, or at least take into account the money spent per month to maintain their servers, as well as other, more considerable factors, refer to my title and don't compare WoW to Destiny. Allow people to complain about the game, it will help fix it. Bungie needs to know people are dissatisfied. It will help. You can see that in the past, companies who listened to their fan base have succeeded (FF14 ARR) though that isn't guaranteed. And there are titles with single IP'S released recently with more content than Destiny can hold a candle to, such as TERA. Also, monthly pay doesn't excuse the shit story. Bungie needs to revamp that. Edit 4: I'm off work so now I can focus on delivering some of the ideas I've had formulating: Story idea: I think the story should be revamped within the game, so that we have a better understanding of the current events and our purpose within the world. This includes the reason we were revived with more intricate detail, what caused our deaths. I feel that any raid in the future should have a deeper connection with the plot line (if this isn't already part of your plans for future patches). I hope that it's also a part of Bungie's plan to implement the lore that Grimoire's seem to be developing into the core story. If not, we should have missions that perhaps provide hints and explanations. For an example, don't you go through time in The Vault of Glass? What if we could add missions in certain points of the worlds that allow us to go back in time to relive some of these wars and trials? That would be fantastic IMO. A youtuber had mentioned something about spawning in the same location frequently. Perhaps that should change. Would be nice if you could impliment safe zones in which Guardian's gather, something akin to a social hub (think Loot Cave, but not the Loot Cave!). I noticed the Queen has control over the Fallen? I read one of the cards a while back in which it implied that Fallen seem to have a thought process of their own. Why not develop a village of fallen that focus on providing us rewards for solving puzzles regarding the lore? Feel free to expand on any of this! Strikes: Though large HP pools and higher mob damage does offer a degree of difficulty, I think it'd be much better for Bungie to impliment puzzles. Most of our Strikes involve us avoiding damage 90% of the fight and shooting at the boss for 5 minutes before they die. That's boring as hell! Lets change that! For an example: Boss A for Strike cycles through 4 shields and can only be shot while he has Black Colored Shield. Each Guardian is marked for 60 seconds by a certain color, which corresponds to the damage being inflicted onto the boss. If Guardian A has red damage and the boss has Red Shield, then he can shoot the boss to change the shield, while Guardian B and C do field work by clearing out mobs to protect Guardian A. When the Boss Changes shields, Say it comes out yellow, then Guardian B who is Yellow would cycle it again, while Guardian A and C clear mobs to protect Guardian B. Eventually you'd have cycled through the shields and gotten Black Shield, so every Guardian can now inflict damage for X amount of time. That's just a rough idea. But it sounds like a decent time if done correctly. Make it puggable so that everyone has a chance to join! My roommate had a similar idea, but instead everyone starts with -30% fire rate and 20% off their shield. They have to solve a jumping puzzle in order to gain 70% fire Rate and 100% shield for 20 seconds while dodging AoE damage from the boss. I would like more ideas on this!- Loot: I noticed you've started working on loot. I applaud you on that. The only complaint I have at current time is that we need to rid ourselves of Xur. Someone made an amazing post about Exotic Engrams! Yes! This has all of my upvotes. Exotic Engrams that allow us to get GEAR that isn't part of Exotic Bounties or Raid Rewards. Raid loottables need to be kept seperatly from Xur. They need to be slightly buffed. PvP needs to have its own loottable with weapons that can be obtained based on a ranking system, which should reward people who do well! I suck at PvP but when I see someone on my team or the enemy team with 8k points, I think to myself, "-blam!-, I hope they get something worth their time." Maybe impliment a ranking system with tokens in which the person can go trade for rare/exotic gear sets (with SET BONUSES) for PvP. Something that makes everyone say to themselves, "Damn, that guy must be something decent."

  • Look I get there's a grind. I get mmos. This is not an mom it's an GPS RPGs. You can't tell me this is an mmo when there 16 player instances. COD and Battlefield support more players in one instance then destiny does. Now I get the grind. I enjoy the hunt. But only getting loot once a week off the RAID has put this game on a stand still. Why would I grind anymore if I can't get a drop more then once a week. This game was mean to be so much more. Then BUNGIE signed a deal with the devil. Activision has ruined every franchise they have touched. Look at inifinity ward for example. They all jumped ship when Activision got control. And this will soon enough happen to BUNGIE. They have already lost the man who wrote halo, staten, and then who was responsible for the chanting monks, o donnel. Two geniuses who could not put up with what Activision did to the game. They refuse to be a part of it and put their names on a quarter of a game. BUNGIE said they hated working for Microsoft, yet Microsoft let them have full control of everything. Halo, halo 2 and halo 3 were full of content because Microsoft did not chop the game apart for DLC. They signed with Activision for the MONEY. They sold out and now they have lost their reputability. An they were probably the last developer who had any. Anyways this patch doesn't help the game, just another cover up to keep there player count high for dlc. AND ABOUT THE PART THAT ACTIVISION OWNS BLIZZARD A good friend of mine is a jr programmer for blizzard. Remember that game blizzards been working on for years and haven't said much about it? While according to him, Activision has taken complete control of it and has done EXACTLY what they did to destiny. Chopped it up and are hoping for 7 to 10 expansions. BLIZZARD WILL BE THE NEXT GREAT STUDIO TO FALL. BUNGIE IS BEGINNING TO CRUMBLE. BLIZZARD WILL FOLLOW SUIT

I agree the World of Warcraft comparisons are pretty worthless now outside of the most basic observations we could make (there are technically "classes", itemized gear etc.) I also played Vanilla WoW and looking back at the time it took to reach level cap (60) it was around a week of /played or 7X24 hours = 168 hours. That's a full time 40 hour a week job for a month. And that's if you were focused and actually trying to be efficient, we all know you could devote 2 or 3 times that much time into the game if you did everything there was to do along the way. And that was just GETTING to end game, then you had the never ending gearing and pursuit of true glory, the stuff of legends. IMHO the epic feeling of WoW raiding is what spurred players through those countless levels. No, Destiny is nothing like that feeling. Borderlands is a much closer comparison. And if you've read the interviews with one of the creators, the inspiration behind Borderlands was Halo meets Diablo aka the weapons and physics of Halo as a sci-fi FPS combined with Diablos beloved and expansive loot system. Honestly if Gearbox does well with the next gen Borderlands and maybes adds in some PvP, that's probably as close as we're going to get in terms of what we expected from Bungie. Now that these videos and discussions are going on about the content cuts its pretty obvious that even if every single piece of content was live in the game right now, it would still be like 1/3 of Borderlands, or 1/10 of World of Warcraft. This was a salvage operation. Just like Blizzard scrapped Titan last month, except Bungie/Activision released their lemon.

    • You describe adventure and growth, change throughout a games life span I do not hate Destiny, but I do hate that it feels like it's over way to quickly. I want more than what we have, I want a proper story , I want to develop a connection with the characters and care about the world. I want to remember the names of NPCs and their personalities, but I can't find it here There's no reason to care

That post was truly inspiring. We can not deal with Bungie's crap and let this become the modern day Daikatana(although few games reach the level of bad that game reached, these 2 games' development stories are oddly similar).

      • I agree with everything you said. On the nose how i feel and great ideas for improving the game. Id gladly pay 50 bucks for an expansion of destiny if it was worth it. Right now i dont believe this game was worth 60 bucks. You dont pay 20 bucks for a half eaten pizza do you? Then turn around and pay an additional 10 bucks for another slice? Hell no the 10 bucks is for extra not the rest of what you payed for originally. And thats what alot of people want everyone to do. And on top of that calling people entitled that want simply what was payed for.

I tried to read the whole thing, but I stopped at comparing WoW to Destiny. Destiny has 0 subscription fee, and yet they still support this game on a weekly basis. The many other reasons out there don't even need to be mentioned because of that. You need to shorten it up.

Edited. So after reading it i agree with pretty much everything on a comparison level. I can even relate this to games that have had 1/10, or even 1/100 of the budget for destiny just plainly being a better game. but if we must go to MMO's there are plenty that have a deeper and better designed story for being an MMO than destiny with content at launch. Good call on this fact. Story ideas: Paragraph 1) great, it is mainly the reason why i didn't like destiny, no exectution, no interaction...what the -blam!-, how am i supposed to feel the need to play...to WANT to be a part of a universe...that doesn't talk to me or i can't talk to it...the reason i go back to so many games from the past are because their stories were executed with such excellence i can reply them. Add to that gameplay and you have a game i can play many times over. Along with strike connections, not needed, but would be greatly appreciated if these somehow connected to the plot instead of the "oh shit some guy is here go kill him." Paragraph 2) Grimoire in an of itself is a shit way to tell a story...any game with lore does not have lore as it's CORE feature...you shouldn't need lore to understand the world and things happening, you need lore to get a GREATER understanding of the world and what's happening... Paragraph 3-5) Multiple locations or random ones would just be a better way at handling the whole spaceship thingy...otherwise just make them warp portals...because having a space ship drop you at the same location every time is just plain stupid unless there is a reason for it...which none is given. Also next thing...REASONS for fallen...WHY WHY WHY...And more importantly better attack patterns...if you have a strike that lasts hours, have the AI adapt to how you play...if you have a tanking player have ALL the enemies quickly gang up on that 1 tank. If they attack from the distance develop attack strategies for this...the strategies now are just plain simplistic and easily countered. Switch them up. Any variation is welcome so any idea is great as long as it varies it up. Loot...VARIETY...god, is there any other weapon skin? you are telling me that in an age like that they don't have....what 2 different types of assault rifles that look really different? all the same with maybe a scope change, or a skin change? except exotics? really? REALLY? same with gear...Torchlight 2 go play it. PvP rewards need to be done over...this is trash, i understand what they want but there are better, less lazy ways, other than RNG, give something for the trouble, top 3 get something decent, random 2 other people get something just as good, and rest get something that isn't so decent but at least something... Or give the top players on both teams something decent, nothing amazing, and then random people something amazing or something...just not what we have now. Overall well thought out and i will like this! Feedback and bungie needs to deliver or they will lose everything.

Because $50 for psn or $60 for xbox live plus fee thats a lot of money i think thats why they made DLC but anyway you have great opinions and dont take this personal

                    • While I won't argue about vanilla wows content being massive by comparison (and honestly the last time the game truly took skill), and I'm not doubting you played vanilla or it's predecessors, I have to argue the comparison. Vanilla wow was fantastic and sprawling, covering vast amounts of space. But it grew to that size. On initial release, it was one of the most broken games I've ever played. Maybe not so much broken as incomplete. THERE WAS ZERO PVP. Pvp consisted of roaming 60s ganking. That was it. No battlegrounds, no arena, nothing. There was no endgame. Initial release has no raids of any kind. Much of the world, like destiny, was walled off. Some of it has JUST NOW been made accessible with the most recent expansion, although players have managed to find themselves glitching to access it since pre-BC. There was little to do other than leveling a character (which was admittedly a full time job), but it did not in any way resemble the current game. I agree that wow vastly exceeds what destiny has to offer, but it's taken a decade, and multiple 50$ expansions, to get that way. Even in the current state of gaming and mmo styling, many games have to vastly alter, add on, or improve over the first year. SWTOR was one of the most anticipated mmo releases of all time, as was ESO, and look what's become of them? I think destiny shipped incomplete, and there's too many people involved to point the finger at one person or even one group of individuals. However, it is still just a fledgling, and has a lot I room to grow. I've gotten 60$ worth of game as it stands, meaning everything from this point forward will simply be an improvement
