How cross platform play could work.

Something just occurred to me, it's probably nothing new, but I haven't seen it really discussed in any forums. As a result of bungie having control over all destiny servers, as opposed to having them slit up between Microsoft and Sony, this has given many gamers (like myself) the hope of cross platform play in destiny. But there is one thing that I realized destiny would need to have this work. It's own friend/social-like system. Regardless if all your friends are playing on playstation, and you on your Xbox and playing on the same servers, you won't be able to see any of them on your dashboard. Thus, you won't be able to invite them to your party or fire teem. Making actually playing with them impossible. If destiny has a system (assuming Sony and Microsoft allowed it) that let you have your own friends list within the game that bypassed what system your playing on, cross platform play could then be possible. I'm pretty much in the dark with the actual technical aspect this would require, but I'm interested in what other guardians have to add to the subject. Do you think this would be possible?

The Edge article had a quote that strongly implied there would be no cross platform play. With different systems and data stored server side they'd have to, instead of maximizing performance on a system by system basis, make one middle of the road set of settings so everyone would have the same performance. On top of that you have different controllers and would end up with one controller having a general consensus of being the superior one and bring up a whole set of complaints relating to it. So in the end just get a PS4 with the rest of your friends. Microsoft lost Bungie's Halo, there's no Gears of War, they don't get the exclusive content for Destiny. When even developers like Bungie and Epic Games are taking a step back from the console they produced exclusively for and are going to the competition and adding incentives to their games to convince you to switch you know which company to avoid. Hell, Cliff Bleszinski who obviously knows a thing or two about the game industry believes because Sony forced Microsoft's hand with their PR nightmare will make Microsoft force developers to tack in more and more paid DLC and microtransactions to cover the losses they incurred not being able to screw over their customers. That's the guy who worked as the former design director for Epic Games with 20 years of experience talking. Long story short, people who know a hell of a lot more than us about the gaming industry are predicting a lot of bad stuff when it comes to Microsoft. Get a PS4 with the rest of your friends.
