Catterpillar Error Solution! This Worked For Me It Might Work For You!

Greetings Destiny Community! Since Destiny's launch date I have been plagued by the Caterpillar error. The frequency of this was Caterpillar error code for me was probably about 15 to 25 times a night. Every 5 hour Destiny playing session for me would feel like 3 hours because of the constant disconects which were followed by the Caterpillar error code. I would also get other error codes from time to time but I would say 90% of the time it would be the Caterpillar one. My setup is; Digital Download (don't think this matters but hey might as well post everything), Xbox 360, Time Warner Cable, 30 Down 5 Up (speed package), Ubee DDW365 (I believe this was the correct model, if not the DDW365 looks identical to the one I had.) I consider myself to be a pretty patient person but this whole ordeal was testing my patience to the highest degree. I could not continue to let this Caterpillar error waste my time without trying to do everything I could to fix the problem. I decided to go on these forums here and look for a solution to my particular connection problem with this Caterpillar error code being the culprit. Unofrtunately I could only find a couple of good threads headlining this error code and putting in in focus. Most people were just complaining and even more were not providing any good feedback. After the forums failed to help me I decided to call my ISP (Time Warner Cable) and see if they could help me port forward. I could have done it myself but I wanted to make sure that I was 100% not doing anything wrong. The first person who I spoke to was not able to help me port forward the ports ranges Bungie says are required to be open in order to play Destiny. I was transferred to another person who asked me why exactly I wanted these ports opened. I explained to him my connection troubles with Destiny and how the developer suggested that opening these ports might be a solution to some peoples connection problems. He told me that if I am able to connect to the Destiny servers at all then I don't need these ports opened. He advised that I go to my local Time Warner Cable Store and swap my modem with a different modem. A different brand and model he said would be best and he said I would need a DOCSIS 3 capable modem. Your internet speed/bandwidth is what determines your DOCSIS needs in a modem. I went to my local ISP store, swapped out my modem (Ubee DDW365 (I believe this was the name for it but if not then my old router looked exactly liked this) for a different brand & model modem (Arris DC860), came home and set it up, and I went about 4 hours of non stop playing with NO DISCONNECTS!!! After about an hour I was getting so excited that maybe JUST MAYBE my solution had been found and indeed it HAD!!! This might not work for some people but I hope I can help at least one person with this thread. I didn't have to pay anything extra for doing the modem swap and it was really easy to swap them out myself. Make sure you bring the power supply with you if your going to go to your local ISP store to do a modem swap!

 • I am currently using a Ubee DDW366 model which is DOCSIS 3.0 certified. I have contacted my ISP and my ports are currently open with zero packet loss. However, I still receive the caterpillar error multiple times an hour. I'm starting to believe its more on bungie's end than mine as I have followed all of their instructions and I still get caterpillar errors. I will give it another week or two before thinking about swapping my modem because it works great with all other games.
