Why is there no Boss Loot?

For most cases, when you complete a mission or kill a unique enemy or boss, there is almost always a form of reward, right? But that seems to be one of the things that's missing in Destiny. Take Strikes for example. I love nothing more than working as a team to take down the Big Baddy at the end with a couple of randoms or even a couple of friends. But the experience alone is not enough to keep me (and probably quite a few others) interested. Sure, you get a nice exp boost at the end, but that doesn't seem all that important once you reach lvl 20. Loot is what we want. I would even go so far as to say that the measly 10 Vanguard Marks, and the occasional consumable drop is just insulting. You get more from bounties, and even the free-roam missions are more efficient than that. This is where the Cave comes in. Farming is a key element of any MMO style game you play. For whatever reason. Sure you get hoarders and power-levellers, but what about the ones who just want a couple levels to try that level 12 Strike again? (I won't even mention Phogoth). So, if I may humbly suggest two things: Increased rewards from Strikes and unique mission enemies, and leave farming the way it is. With more loot, farming will be less important automatically.

  • On this note.......How to make this game more fun dynamic and unique. Buy, sell, trade, upgrade, loot, collect drops, fight, pillage, and patrol to level 30 rather than ascendant shard hunt every damn day. The plan: Patrol missions should yield more than just marks and we should be able to "farm with a purpose" ....Let me explain. One of the more interesting parts of any good MMO is the species and character specific drops. These drops are then used as special building items for special gear. I remember guild wars using the giant troll drops for very specific high rated armor. Without defeating the tough to beat trolls you didn't have the right parts to upgrade the armor. In Destiny This is very vaguely and basically set up through ascendant material and helium etc. but nobody enjoys loot hunting and ascendant shard hunting is repetitive. My idea: take the collection type patrol missions and allow us to keep what is dropped (coils etc) in order to upgrade a very specific upgrade on your armor. Or send us on a target patrol mission to collect a very rare item used for upgrading your sniper rifle. Or have each bounty yield something interesting needed to upgrade. The harder bounties yield better upgrade material. Vault of glass could also yield insane upgrade material or trading materials. I would love to have every patrol or mission or enemy yield something different that in itself is important to someone or something somewhere. This is already seen in the bounties for certain exotic weapons (collect 10 fusion rifle orb parts defeat 200 enemies in nightfall) Developing ways we can "go to work" to acquire things that aren't just purely random (blue drops and the chance at gaining ascendant shards) is a great way to make the game fun. The main point: I spent countless hours developing a farming technique to defeat those overpowered trolls in guild wars because I knew I could either sell the items for cash to buy better stuff or use them to make armor then sell the armor for other upgrade material, or upgrade armor and wear it myself. I went to work. I had tasks I made for myself. I had so many things to do because every enemy dropped something different and every task yielded something unique. I was able to level up in more than one way because I found ways around simply buying better armor. As it stands in destiny the only way possible to level up beyond 26 right now is through ascendant shards and simple loot hunta. We are being pigeon holed into one way of gaining levels and it feels repetitive and I feel forced to play by the rules. Giving us multiple tasks and multiple ways of upgrading our gear through patrols and bounties would make me feel less walled in. I want more to hunt for more reason to go out and defeat 1000000 vex. We could even use the gromoire ranks as an item counter. Each 10 kills of a hobgoblin would yield a single hobgoblin fusion core that is needed for your sniper. Defeating 3 walkers yields walker gears needed for your boots. Anyway these are my thoughts. Thanks for listening.

    • Great idea, even a blue engram with a slight chance of a purple would be a solid addition to this game.

    • I like this idea. I put this game down to play borderlands as they do so much better, especially in the loot category. It would be great to see a few boss specific weapons for each strike that might give players a satisfying reward other than killing phogoth for the hundredth time and being told the vanguard is grateful. Really the loot system is completely unsatisfying. It can take days even weeks to get one legendary or maybe even an exotic, and more often than not those same weapons are completely underwhelming, even some of the "better" gear or exotic weapons aren't rewarding to finally use, and after searching for weeks on end I'm left asking "is that it?" Not to mention the only guns that can't be simply bought easier are either faction variants that aren't sold or the even stingier raid drops where you have to wait a week for something that may not even drop. This game needs a system like Diablo which recognizes and increases chances of seeing nice gear, legendary / exotics if nothing has dropped for a set amount of time. Let's see some incentive to keep playing when we're mostly just playing the same missions / strikes / arenas often times back to back with no change available unless we quit out and try our luck with matchmaking again (screwing over teammates in the process)

    • Wait...you mention no loot from strikes? You can literally get legendary engrams and exotics time to time beating a strike, and lvl 24 strikes give 2-6 engrams between the drops during and the rewards after the strike. You do get drops, legendary and exotic just aren't too common, nor should they be.

      • I have thought about this as well. With so many semi-unique named enemies in the game, you would think that they would have included some meaning to those names. Instead it just feels like enemies were named in order to alter their stats. Not that I don't enjoy enemy variety, but would it hurt to throw in some unique enemy specific drops here and there. It could even just be things that you cash in for glimmer. Celebrant of Oryx should have a chance to drop something unique, because he is a completely optional bullet-sponge enemy with a unique name.

      • Because this games loot system is -blam!-ing retarded. This games feels like a -blam!-ing train wreck. A butchered mess of elements from other games. A real -blam!-ing shame. Was looking forward to this for 2 years

              • "Why is there no Boss Loot? " Beacuse Destiny was to have player trading in the game and boss loot would wreck the economical system ingame if there were boss loot. Now Bungie cut out trading (and a lot of other thing pretty late) but the random drop thing wasnt fixed so we are left with half of the system. (and a fraction of the story and "all this is playable area".)

                • Because it would mean a drop table that farmers would exploit. I get the feeling that there's only about six exotics in the game, and a handful of Legendaries. These weapons would have no value. The sad part is Bungie doesn't understand the game doesn't have any value either, so thinking these guns are worth anything with a nerf happy PVP community is asinine. Given enough time each weapon is going to be reduced to Legendary status and hobbled. They might as well have given them away via the door man.

This was one of the baffling decisions Bungie made that makes absolutely no sense. If they intended us to repeat the content over and over the most sensible way to give players a reason to do that is to tie some sort of loot rewards to each boss, for example rare materials needed for upgrading/crafting gear that are unique to bosses. Can it be abused? Sure, anything can be these days but I'd say that if you have the mental fortitude to just sit there and farm bosses non-stop for the rewards for extended periods of time then more power to you. It does not hurt other players so its a non-issue.

Because in a game that has looting mechanics like other RPGs or mmos, bungie has apparently decided to NOT reward you for tough fight. Though, technically they do now if you do the tiger playlist since you get engrams at the end. Though honestly id of preferred bungie gave us those engrams as actual loot off of the boss rather than a reward at the mission end stats. But this of course is only limited to raids, weekly nightfall, weekly strike and the tiger strike playlist.

                    • Totally agree. After level 20, we want cool loot. Reward us for our time consuming efforts to kill these bosses. It feels so empty to finally defeat them and end up with a low level pair of boots, or 1 strange coin.
