Some comms suggestions..

TLDR; Expanding the emote system into a wider array of preset contextual statements would be good! So I understand some of the reasoning behind the lack of public chat, and even the removal of matchmaking for some modes. What I don't understand is how undercooked the emote system is, and why the game doesn't offer some canned phrases to use within a fireteam. Pointing emote is, er, pointless. You can point "at" someone but not at some THING or location. This could've been a great way to indicate a position to your team. You could point at player X and then point at position Y. Communication, wow! Sitting emote is.. I don't even know why that's in there. I'd rather see sitting as a contextual animation at actual places to sit like couches, chairs and so forth. Hold X to sit. Wave emote is fine. It's the only emote that makes sense. Dance emote is out of character for the game. Right now it translates roughly to "i'm happy" at best, but regardless it looks silly for the serious tone of the game, communicates little, and doesn't look very good or even funny. I think the emote system should be revamped to allow some form of actual communication. For instance by adding something like holding a direction on the dpad and picking a preset canned phrase from a wheel with the right stick, such as "stay close"", "don't worry about rezzing me, survive and i'll respawn", and so forth. This kind of system is totally common in other games, and it'd let Bungie retain control of censorship issues. Additionally, the palette of phrases could change by context, to allow for LFG type statements while at the tower (which really are sorely needed) as well as social nonsense, while in a mission the messages would be gameplay centric. I am having a hell of a time figuring out how Bungie intends the game to function socially without relying almost completely on this forum. There's practically zero player discoverability in-game. You can be heading into a mission alongside a fireteam of two others on your level, only to have them pop out of existence when you hit the darkness zone. Why is there no way for me to ask them if I can join? Everybody is a mute and it's silly and artificial.
