200k a year? High rollers please help.

Hey guys I'm an aspiring college student with a world of choices and I would really love if I could get a little help, my main goal in life is to make about 200k a year, save up, buy a football team, sit back, and watch my cash grow, I would really like to be able to do something with computer science, because I'm a huge fan of computers and programming and making video games, but I really don't see that kind of cash being made in that field, so I was also considering business as well. What subject do you think would be most likely to supply me with a 200k salary? How much do you think the Bungie team makes and what do the ones that make a lot do?

You're not going to be able to buy a football team at a $200k per year salary. It depends on how soon you want to make $200k/year. If you want it right out of college, it's unlikely to happen unless you get a finance/economics degree with top-tier grades from a top-tier school (think Ivy League or other high-quality private college) and go work at an investment firm on Wall Street. You could also make that money right out of school with a professional degree (i.e., juris doctor (lawyer), medical doctor, doctor of dental surgery, or doctor of veterinary surgery), but that's a graduate degree and once again, you'll have to go to a top-tier school and get top-tier grades to make that kind of money right out of school. If you don't mind working your way up over time to that kind of salary, a degree in computer engineering or computer science is a good path to take. Go to a good school, study your ass off, and then aim to work at a top technology company. Then work your way up the ladder over time. It won't be long until you hit your salary goals. If you want to buy a football team eventually, you'll need to make millions per year. The only real way to do that is to start your own business and grow it into something successful. The chances of rising to the million-dollar-plus club working for somebody else are miniscule (and it usually takes 20-30 years). Get a degree in something that interests you (or don't get a degree at all) and then start a related company.

    • Focus more on how much you'll enjoy your job. Not how much you make. I'd rather enjoy my job and make 50k than hate going to work and make 300k.

        • Most computer programmers make around 100,000. Very very few make 200,000. If you want to make that kind of money, you will need to spend many decades climbing the ladder of seniority. Don't expect to make that any time soon. A better bet to make lots of money is to be some sort of doctor.
