For all having connection issues.

I don't claim to be a networking genious (misspelled on purpose). But, here's what I did and it fixed my "bee" "cattle" "centipede" messages. Centipede - Here's what I did to fix my "centipede" error. First, I set up my ps4 with a static ip address. Yours will probably look like 192.168.1.1. You will want to put the last number at 25 instead of 1. Then, subnet mask will be 255.255.255.0. Your gateway will most likely be 192.168.1.1. Your ip address more than likely will be 192.168.1.__ . Sometimes, your ip address will be 192.168.0.___. I've even seen where the ip address can be 192.168.2.___. The only thing that should change would be that third number (the 0, 1, or 2). To figure out which is the right one, log into your router and go to something along the lines of view internet connection. There should be a list of numbers. The correct ip address number should be there along with your default gateway number. Make sure you write both of these down. If you don't know how to log into your router, then just google "how to log into my [name brand] router." Now, Change your DNS on your ps4 to: primary - 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4 These are google's public dns servers and they are great. MTU - automatic Proxy - more than likely click "do not use" So, this is what your ps4/xbox should look like: ip address: 192.168.1 (or 2 or 0) .25 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Def. Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8 Sec. DNS: 8.8.4.4 MAC Address: (this is assigned automatically) MAC Address: (this is assigned automatically) MTU: Automatic Proxy Server: Do Not Use NAT type: (hopefully it says) Type 2 Now that we have this out of the way, log back into your router and go to your advanced settings. You need to look for two things. First, UPnP (Universal plug and play). UPnP seems to just confused ps4s, so I disable this. Next, you need to look for DMZ. On my netgear router, this is underneath the WAN setup. Set up your DMZ as the ip address you entered into your ps4, which is 192.168.1.25. This will be the number at the top of your ps4's "view connection status" list. If you see "NAT filtering," there is sometimes the option to make 'Secure', 'Open', and SIP ALG completely disable this. MAKE SURE OPEN is selected and SIP ALG is disabled. This should fix the majority of problems. If you're still getting errors and you have done this correctly, then it is on bungies end. Let me know if you're still having issues and I'll try to help clear up any confusion. Error code "bee" is just simply letting you know that you do not have the available bandwidth to play Destiny at the moment. Destiny requires ALOT of bandwidth in order to play. If you have another family member watching Netflix. If you have another family member browsing Youtube videos, more than likely you will get this error code at some point. UPLOADING KILLS INTERNET CONNECTION. If you upload something (even something as small as a picture), you will probably get kicked from Destiny. For whatever reason, uploading will completely take away your ability to download, therefore Destiny won't be able to play. Destiny requires you to always be connected to play so it requires alot of bandwidth. Think about upgrading your internet. I know this may seem ridiculous, but I'm just the messenger :) "You wouldn't arrest a guy for just delivering drugs from one guy to another" - Michael Scott. Here's a list of error codes and potential fixes. Beagle/Blackbird/Buck/Camel/Chipmunk/Lime - Destiny install corrupted. Delete the game and redownload and reinstall. Make sure other games are playable on your system. Bull - You may have been hacked. Change your passwords on a computer that has no viruses or spyware. Buzzard/Stingray/Vulture - You need xbox live/playstation plus to play...bro. Caribou/Pelican/Penguin - Parental controls are kicking in. Carp - You were kicked back to the login screen. Probably on Bungie's end. Cat- Make sure destiny finished updating. Canary/Marionberry- Shut down your ps4/xbox. Unplug it for 30 seconds. Then, unplug your router/modem. Wait for 30 seconds. Plug your modem back in (wait for it to finish booting), plug in your router (wait for it to finish booting), then plug in your ps4/xbox and start playing Destiny again. Sometimes (just like your computer), your console needs to be shut down and started back up. Caterpillar/Cattle/Chicken/Chimpanzee - Restart your game and console. Bungie also may be working on servers. Catfish - Accept the agreement before you play the game. Pear- Restart your system. xbox party function not working properly. Urchin- You've been banned. Stop trying to glitch under the levels.... I hope this helps. I tried to just share with you all what I've done to improve my connection. Let me know if you continue to have problems! Thanks! ERROR CODE MONKEY!!!!! ****edit****** 09/25/14 @6:28 http://www.bungie.net/en/Help Go to this webpage and look at the statement in red. Bungie is working on the servers on ALL platforms. Until resolved, players may have difficulty logging into servers or experience disconnects. This is very common among online only games. They are repairing servers so hopefully it will be resolved shortly. *****EDIT******* 9/25/14 @6:43 Message on bungie's help page went away so I'm assuming servers are back up and running. Hopefully some issues were fixed.

  • We are aware there are some players that are not having a quality experience getting or staying connected to Destiny, even after following the troubleshooting steps. We will be updating the CATTLE/CATERPILLAR, CENTIPEDE, BEE/FLY/LION and BEAVER/FLATWORM/LEOPARD help articles with updates as we investigate. Here are some links for those that want more info (scroll to the bottom of each article for updates): http://www.bungie.net/7_Error-Code-CENTIPEDE/en/Help/Article/11875 http://www.bungie.net/7_Error-Code-CATERPILLAR--CATTLE/en/Help/Article/11873 http://www.bungie.net/7_Error-Code-BEE--FLY--LION/en/Help/Article/11791 http://www.bungie.net/7_Error-Code-BEAVER--FLATWORM--LEOPARD/en/Help/Article/11790

    • Sir.., can't we just disable network throttling on consoles? network throttling can cause some issues.

    • Keeps booting my fireteam one by one until it eventually KTO's all of us at once. This is ridiculous! Get it together Bungie. It's even worse than before the patch. I'm quickly losing confidence.

We shouldn't have to fix a DAMN THING to play destiny. And for Bungie to ask we tinker with settings is absurd. I've NEVER had to change anything with ANY of my other games, EVER. And I shouldn't have to. It's a stall tactic on Bungie's part. As several other posters have pointed out, their suggested changes are folly. Their game is broken and they know it.

From a networking perspective everything under the "Centipede" section is BAD advice. Static IP: Irrelevant, DHCP on your router will hold long lease times for devices, and often remembers IPs allocated to devices by their MAC address. DNS Changes: You should always use your ISP's caching name servers for tons of reasons 1) Sending DNS requests off-net of your ISP will take longer, especially if there is an issue upstream of your ISP. 2) CDN's (Content Distribution Networks) often use DNS as a means to pick content servers close to your physical location to serve content this can be anything from Windows updates, images, and video on sites like Facebook and Youtube. Using a name server like googles means content could be served from ANYWHERE, making downloads and loading times LONGER. There are more reasons but thats enough to give you an idea. (As a side note in my packet captures during debugging Destiny issues I found several calls to Demonware a company that provides cloud gaming applications & Akamai, one of the larger CDN companies, whether this has an impact on the issues people are experiencing I can't give a definitive answer too) Turning UPnP off: Bad idea, auto discovery of devices in your home will have a harder time finding each other, think DLNA servers etc.. DMZ: This should only be used if you're running a server, it exposes the machine pointed at to the public internet, and bypasses any firewall or protection your home router provides. Also its useless if you have more than one in this case console that requires equal footing. SIP ALG: Turning this off can break IP Phones. I don't really need to elaborate further. Its simple try playing with everything on its recommended, Default settings, OUT SIDE peak time, it'll prob work. here in the UK access to Destiny fails like clockwork, 19:00-23:00 GMT everytime, almost to the minute. I also have network traffic captures full of TCP, RST's /rant over.

        • This is becoming a joke, constantly getting kicked out with different random messages for the past week. Im a network engineer for Cisco and I would say nobody should change any network settings if they aren't having problems with different games, this is clearly a Bungie server issue. I love this game but im not gonna keep a game that I can't play, whats the point. I just about put up with the fact that its near impossible to get people to join your fireteam since we can't talk to people, add to that not even having the basic preformatted messages is just ridiculous. Bungie get this sorted please.

I also got error code monkey. I was on Xbox 360 playing a strike the first time, a level 20 Venus mission the 2nd and on 4 other games i tried to play. it also happened to the people who i was playing with 1 had a different error code but me and another guy both got monkey. It has been happening to us so much one of my friends took it back Tuesday and the rest of us are back on GTA 5. Bungie better fix this problem or im not getting Halo 5 and getting COD advance warfare. There is no point in playing if i cant finish one stupid mission. I know its not my connection because im not getting sign out of xbox live only destiny. I also have time warner which has never failed me in the past and i am hooked up my an ethernet cable so its not a bad wireless receive, its bungie. And it wasnt just today its been almost everyday since i got the game

            • ****EDIT***** 9/27/14 @6:20pm All this thread was meant to do was help people know what I did to get my errors codes to stop. I put hours into this thread researching errors and potential fixes. Since Bungie has answered this thread I can't edit the original post. Best of luck and see you starside, Guardians.

            • Something else to check for is if your router supports "Block fragmented IP packets." This is located in the "Security" or "Firewall" tab of your web UI. Make sure it is turned OFF. I had it set to on, and I was booted from Destiny every like 3 minutes. My connection has vastly improved since turning it off.
