I believe there is some confusion

In lieu of all the bashing Bungie is getting from people who are fed up with the loot genegration system or lack of a compelling story, I just have a few basic questions from Bungie that do need answering. Call it, clearing the air, if you will, specially because of all the misunderstanding (I hope its that) flying about. Q1. When Bungie declared after Beta, that "You've barely scratched the surface", one would think, there is plethora of CONTENT awaiting to be explored. By "Content" did you mean "Alternate spins of the very-limited content"? Is there anything that we are missing or you'll be injecting fresh content somehow (I don't mean the DLC's here)? Q2. I was told "The game starts at Level 20". Ok, I understand. I strive to reach that level and then my mission statement becomes "Get gear which has light stats" in order to level up further. Ok, I do that too. Although I personally havent reached the required level, but after I do, I'm supposed to take part in the Vault of Glass, the only motivation for which is again, Legendary or Exotic loot. My question is, where is the game that was supposed to start after Level 20? Or is grinding/farming the new gameplay? Q3. So you put a limiter on the number of crucible marks and vanguard marks which one can receive in a given week. If Destiny is rife with content, why the limiter, which only slows my progress towards getting the gear that is actually meant for me? There are tons of legendaries out there, which I should have the option of acquiring and testing. However, there isn't a clear pathway to obtain them(in addition to the limiters). Just a basic calculation tells me that in order to obtain majority of the legendary gear which is out there would involve me parting with considerable amount of time. Is the hindrance deliberate? Is the in-game progression meant to be that way? Q4. Somewhere along the line I'm certain you must have felt, there is a lot riding on too little. How do we expand it over months on end when we know it is limited and people will get to the bottom of it really fast. The first DLC comes out in Dec'14. I'd say that is almost 3 months away. What are your expectations from Destiny CONTENT till then? Is it going to be 3 months of bounties, public events, strikes and raids over and over again? Is there going to be a much-needed change to the mechanical array of of this whole guardian development model? Q5. Why have you left the aquiring exotics/legendaries so open ended? Why hasn't there been a definitive statement from you about the foundation of it all and why its worth it? I do not mind striving for rewards, but when do rewards become the Schrodinger's cat? As in, they are attainable and unattainble at the same time? It could go either way and I'd never know (You must be aware of the Cryptarch's predicament). Was it meant to be this haph-hazard and figure-it-out-yourself? 5 questions. Need 5 answers. I hope you oblige.

  • Let me try to give you some insight. Good questions, no doubt, but it seems like you don't really understand the type of game this is (or is going to be once it really starts). Destiny, as much as people like to deny it, is a mmo RPG game with FPS elements. It's basically Diablo or WoW with guns. It's a game of progression, and constant work to keep up. I don't know if you've played WoW or anything similar, but everything is not available at once, for everyone. Q1: Bungie has barely started pushing out content. We got the vault of glass, this week we are getting the Queen's Wrath. There are new multiplayer gametypes being introduced. And this is only for this month. What about next month? Or November? I think that apart from the expansions, there are going to be regular, free-for-everyone updates with more raids etc. and much more content for everyone. Q2: Once again, the RPG elements. Endgame is what it's all about. Reaching lvl 20 changes the core gameplay and lets you reach the progression state of working to improve your gear, reputation, new unlockable missions and more. We have no idea what might even come in the future, this game has massive amounts of untapped potential waiting to be unleashed. Q3: In typical MMO RPG fashion Destiny has what is colloquially known as "lockout". Where you can only get a certain amount of gear/resources/somethingwhatever per certain amount of time. This is so that people don't overshoot and that anyone with the time can get the top level gear fully upgraded in just a few days. Would defeat the purpose of their progression system with gradual updates, and even make the raid(s) inconsequential because everyone would blow through it(them) with rather minimal effort after just farming strikes/crucible for a week. Think unemployed people, kids skipping school, "work" at home etc. You get the idea Q4: See the answer to question 1. Q5: Why is it worth it? So that you will be able to play the future content without getting smeared all over your visor by the enemies. No but in all seriousness, the gear itself is the reward. Gearing up for future content, so you can get more gear, so you can play the next content...you get the idea. This is how RPGs work (in 9/10 cases). As for open-ended... why would you want them to tell you exactly how to obtain each specific piece of armor? You would probably have to farm anyway, because if my guess is correct the raid has several dozen pieces of gear and what you get is determined by random rolls, which is why it is worth farming the raid several times to get the best gear. The same goes for strikes, etc. depending on what level you are. As for figuring out how to get rewards, it's not that hard. Depending on your level and progression you can either: A) Farm. Just plain farm. The cave, Dark Beyond, whatever you prefer. Boring but semi-effective (at least for leveling up thec cryptarch). B) Do strikes. You get Vanguard Marks and rep, so that you can buy gear. 0 RNG. 100% guaranteed to work. Same for Crucible. C) Raid. Guaranteed Legendaries or Ascendant materials. You can even get exotic drops, I think. Can be played through once a week for gear. Let me know if you have any other questions, or disagree with my answers, or just want to discuss one of the points. I'm always up for a good debate or discussion.
