That was the STORY!?!?!

Ok I have no problem with the story but this is for all of you that are complaining. If Destiny was a book we've only read the preface!! Bungie said this was going to last a decade(supposedly) so do you really think they were going to release everything in the first week?

  • Such a stupid rationalization. Destiny is a game. It should be a full, complete game. We have absolutely no evidence of what they plan to write for the sequels, and neither do you. Based on what we know, Destiny's story is bland, boring, and unoriginal, with some cool enemy names and a mildly-intriguing entity in the form of the Traveler. We're entirely capable and allowed to Jude the story as we know it.

  • I think its silly that we are forced to allow the game 10 years when the content is already repetitive and boring

  • As it stand's I paid 89.99USD for admission to a full feature, and should be happy I got a preview. While that may be ok for some, to pay 59.99USD or more for a preview, I'm not. I'm just not wired that way, and there's nothing wrong with that, just like there's nothing wrong with those who are 100% satisfied with how Destiny shipped, out of the box(not months or years from now).

I read an article somewhere that theorized that there wasn't a big story...because there wasn't supposed to be one. Like you said, its a preface. When you think about it...our guardian was just woken from the DEAD with no memory. He/she is only privy to information the speaker and ghost allow him to know. Their goal all along was to get you to kill off the final boss without you knowing exactly WHY they wanted it dead...other than, he's a bad guy following the Traveler. So the following games in this series will dive deeper into your character and reveal all the nitty gritty details behind all this secrecy. If you read some of the Grimoire cards, there are several that hint towards the Traveler being the cause of all the death and destruction in the universe, and possible the CAUSE of the Darkness even coming into existence. The story is there, in the Grimoire cards, but its all speculation based on what different races think of the Traveler and the Guardians.

      • Destiny wouldnt be a book because of the lack of a story. It would be four to six pages.

      • This game is meant to make people care enough to invest in that 10 year life span, the story is meant to set up everything and make the player care about why there are doing things. Rather the game does none of this and just sends the player on mindless 'story' missions that jump from one topic to the next without explain what the hell Peter Dinklage Bot said, some of the characters even straight up tell you that they don't want to explain things. It's bullshit for a AAA game that has so much money invested into it. Free updates to expand the story? I'm all for it, that would be amazing. But if I have to pay more money to fill this game world with life, that would just be a damn shame. /dropmic

It doesn't have to be everything at all, but it actually has to be a story. There have to be characters. I have to actually know things about the other races, or hell, whats actually going on. Look at any other product in a franchise. The train keeps rolling, but they manage to tell an actual story in the process. Destiny didn't tell a story. It dropped some seeds and was like "lol, well tell you about this later when you pay us". Nope. No thanks.

Destiny has one of the richest stories I've experienced in a PC game in a long time. I really connected with my characters, and all of the other interesting, unique and deep personas I was introduced to along the way. My little pet robot is an excellent companion who helps to guide me on my path, adds some levity to grim situations and helps me hack lots and lots of terminals, but those pesky evil aliens always catch him in the process! That's ok though, I've got his back.

          • I agree JoooeYEE. People are trying to find things to complain about. The story in this game has introduced us to the world as it exists in Destiny and the problem that the Guardians are facing. It has introduced us to our enemy: the fallen, the hive, the vex, and the cabal. It has introduced us to possible allies in the Queen. An initial battle has taken place and a small objective towards a larger one has been completed. Our goal now is to get stronger to take on the forces we may find in the next part of the story. If you want more background read the Grimoire cards that are found and it will elaborate on different things. Putting all of that in a game would get boring fast just listening to cut scenes forever instead of actually playing the game. Think of it as The Lord of the Rings and we just read the Hobbit (sort of). We learn the Darkness is present and we must fight it all while seeking out treasure.

I know it's an mmo, but if you compare it to final fantasy xiv, which is also an mmo with a decade lifespan splanned, there's no comparison in depth of story. In final fantasy, the story mode has hours and hours of cutscenes. It also has many dialogue only missions with npc's that you must do in order to progress. Destiny only had a few, like seeing the speaker for the first time and talking to the queen. That was it... Ffxiv had times of emotion, where you watched your friends die, times of laughter and times where you had choices to make that impact the story later. You also needed to rescue one of your buddies from being possessed by the bad guys. Each raid and story mission had cutscene after cutscene to immerse you in the storyline. This was all in the original release pre-dlc. At the end of story mode, it felt like I finished a full final fantasy or metal gear solid-like game and was satisfied, although there was a slight cliffhanger ending to lead to dlc's and end game grinding. Destiny's story barely explained anything, despite having celebrity cast of Maggie, Trask and Victor as main npc's. For the makers of Halo, a franchise with one of the richest storylines in gaming history, this is disappointing.

          • Let me ask you, the Desmond miles arc in assassin's creed, it was what? 5 games long over 6 or so years? Yet each game managed to tell an engaging and interesting story. Each game managed to have a beginning, middle, and end, even if that ending was a cliffhanger. Hell if you even look at contemporaries, borderlands, which this game is most like, manages to have a satisfying story despite being a universe that is continuing to be developed.

            • And also they meant the franchise will last a decade, not just one game with in story

            • I completely believe Activision is to blame for the lack of story and what not in Destiny, I mean, they showed some cutscene teasers and everything at E3.. Where are those!? I bet the upcoming DLC's were originally apart of the game and Bungie wanted to launch with them, BUT to spend LESS money on actually making DLC packs(entirely new content), Activision had them remove parts of the game to make them DLC packs. They wouldn't spend NEAR as much money doing this, and make more profit. Greedy -blam!-ers.

                    • I wouldn't pay full standard price of a book for the preface of a book though, I'd get the preface for free before reading or even buying the book.

                    • If this was a book, no one would have bought it because it would be 4 pages long and have no character development or explanation of ANYTHING.
