Either way, this farming business is disappointing. We shouldn't have to be farming. Gear should still follow some sort of steady progression. At this rate, it could take months to get a naturally dropped set that conforms to all of your stylistic needs. We should change this by either increasing the engram drop rate, or, instead, increase the success rate for color matching engram-decrypts. Thus, purple engrams, being as absolutely rare as they are, should not decrypt as primarily blue items, but as purple ones. This would ward away some of the stagnation people feel after hitting level 24.
edit:
This is only a suggestion to improve the playability at level 24 and up. This has nothing to do with being lazy or whiny, simply trying to make a reasonable suggestion to a game that we all enjoy to fix something that seems to be bothering a fair portion of the community, myself included.

I don't have a problem with the drop rates at all. You should have to put in some serious grinding for higher end gear and guns. My problem is with the structure the loot system is in, seems backwards to me. Big bosses drop virtually nothing while a group of low level Thralls are bursting with goodies.
-
ITT: people complaining about bad luck when they could be farming reputation
-
Easiest way to fix the problem would be to lock the engrams to enemy lvl 10 for blues and 20 for purples and lvl 20 majors or ultras for exotic engrams

Edited by Ropq: 9/23/2014 1:46:30 PMgear does follow a steady progression rate. right now I'm 24 with 100 vanguard marks... by the end of this week I'll have 200 vanguard marks... then i will trade those marks for 3 legendary items. and if i really wanted more grear i would have gotten 100 cruciable marks last week. .. i could have 4 legendary items this week. Just did not feel like getting destroyed in cruciable

I agree. Farming should be a chore. Strikes should offer greater rewards.
-
maybe its just me but in 90% of the cases the engramm turned out to be the color it was supposed to be.. *hmm*

Edited by Kgb gamingTV: 9/23/2014 8:54:43 AMim a level 28. ive done every strike on 26 dozens of times. i have 100+ hours in this game. and have done the VoG. I have still yet to get super lucky all the time from the cave. 90% of the purples I get turn into blues

Its not like theres an auction house to sell your sht on. Also, its called farming. Plain and simple. Go play the ge your way and leave the famers alone. LEAVE EM ALONE
-
Stop with this. It's part of them game. Do it if it's pis sing you off. The same thing has went on since the first mmorpg. This fps is no different
-
I don't agree it would make the game to easy mmos arent easy lol enough of these silly posts people just play the game.
-
I've gotten as many legendaries from blue engrams as I have from purple. It's horse shit really.
-
Edited by zBobb1118z: 9/23/2014 1:56:00 AMWe need things that we can buy will glimmer to increase the level of blues by 1 if we really like it, and an item to reroll an option on the progression tree for weapons/armor Farming should be for getting bulk materials such as weapon parts/leveling up weapons/ chest runs for spirit bloom etc, and strikes are for getting rares
-
Destiny is part MMO of course there's going to be farming.
-
Dude no if you dont like the way it is dont play. I have 4 exotics and about 7 legendarys. Most from engrams. Its supposed to be hard to get the best gear. How else they going to get people coming back? Getting all the best gear easy is not fun. I dont want them to change engram drop rates or anything. You should have played a mmo or game like borderlands or diablo to see that you need to put alot of time in to get the best gear. And its random
-
As disappointing as some of these responses are, I'm sure a change in engram success rates would honestly mitigate the disappointing wall most people hit at 24, and would increase the longevity of the game.
-
Recent patch notes just released, not going to happen
-
You don't have to farm, I have gotten more legendary drops doing other things than I have gotten out of farming. Farming exists in every game with these elements in it.
-
I've had perfectly steady progression. Stalled at 24 for a bit until I hit crucible and vanguard rank 2.
-
Also level scaling should be a thing. I shouldn't have to farm level 1 enemies.
-
Oh my god someone finally has said what I've been thinking! They can either make the bosses drop certain gear (like in all mmo raids/dungeons) so there is a feeling of progression. Or just make the blue wall of 24 easier to break. I really want to start on a titan or lock also but cant because i am so close to 25 :(

Edited by johngie: 9/21/2014 11:06:48 AMThis sounds more than reasonable. As it stands, I care more about what Legendary Engrams can do for my Cryptarch rank than I do what they actually contain. Edit: Just decoded two Legendary Engrams...for two Rare items. Woo. Hoo. Edit 2: Whoops, there's Legendary Engram #3 annnd...Rare #3. What a joke.

#Lrn2Farm.

The flaw in your design is that every enemy has the potential to drop an engram. It all scales to our level. If they dropped more engrams it would only make the farming worse. people would sit at the caves and just get greater amounts of engrams.
-
This could go two ways: 1.) It stays the same, people farm to augment terrible RNG. 2.) Purples become purples, everyone has best in slot in a week and then leave out of boredom. At least with option 1, folks are still playing, I'd prefer that.

Just got Suros Regime from a legendary engram, happy days
