Risk Vs. Reward

Let me start by saying, I have never enjoyed an FPS game as much as Destiny. I usually avoid shooters like the plague. I picked this up because of the RPG elements, and find them quite enjoyable (21 warlock, 25 hunter, and a baby Titan I just started today). As a shooter, This game feels right. Great controls, really nice level design, and difficulty that is pretty much spot on. My feedback comes from the RPG side of things. In RPGs (especially multiplayer ones) there is a concept known as risk vs reward. As you level, you take on harder material, and in return get better rewards. Farily standard concept. While I like the fact I can play with a level 5 character when I choose to patrol earth, one shotting grey creatures doesn't do it for me. However, That is how I get Vanguard faction (bounties, and patrol missions). Why is there no difficulty slider on patrol? I don't want to patrol level 5 areas as a level 25 character. I want level 25 mobs with level 25 skills and the ability to give me level 20 rewards. It should not be better to stand in one place, shooting an empty cave versus running an actual mission. This also ties into farming materials. I need relic iron, my only real choice is to fire up the Mars patrol, and scoot around the planet looting nodes and chests. This would be fine if I had to engage enemies worth my time, or I wouldn't spend 30 minutes searching for a node or chest for one or two iron before moving on. Please give us the following: Heroic patrols. Rewards for heroic story missions above level 20. Even if it is just one spin metal, spiritbloom, relic iron or helium filament. There should never be a moment when you complete a mission and see an empty reward screen, which I saw all today running story missions and PVP (win or lose, I got one engram after several games). Give the vanguard merchants a cloak just like the PVP factions, give us 25 or so rep for completing a herioc story mission. I'm not asking for things handed to us on a silver platter. I'd just like to make meaningful progress fighting meaningful enemies that actually have a chance to kill me.

    If you do the daily story mission on 24 or higher you get ascendant materials, the cloak you are looking for is sold by the speaker for motes of light, I agree they need a difficulty slider for patrols and the loot drop system, as is, is iffy to say the least.

  • I very much agree. I have seen swarms of high level fallen/hive majors/ultras appear on the cosmodrome, but that only happened after I was the only level 20+ in the area for an extended period of time. Cool as it was, I've only seen it once.

  • I agree. The patrols are so boring. I don't know how they could make it harder though because they are usually in public spaces so the enemies have to be weak.

      • Oh I know about the vanguard cloaks that the speaker has, I was talking about a specific cloak that allows all rep to go to vanguard, then people that don't really care about crucible rank could get their vanguard ranking by pvping.... and there could be one that does the opposite for crucible.
