Let me start of by saying i really like playing destiny and I've experienced great coop moments with my bro who's 10 000 Km away from where i live.
Now thats out of the way, the following post is purely speculation based on my 22 years experience as a gamer. Destiny was primarily designed to make money ala COD this is a no brainer.
My gripes with the game in its current state is that the story is very weak, with the last two years of hype i totally expected a game that will destroy even Mass Effect in every aspect, as both games have RPG elements, Sci fi setting of an epic scale, multiplayer and special powers etc. Here in lies the problem, in order to experience all of Destiny's story as a whole you will need to buy the yearly (speculation) story DLC/Expansions which will be released ala COD, this will expand the game's narrative. Hence the 10 year vision and 500 Million investment. This ultimately means that the supposedly great narrative will be spread out over said period of time forcing the consumers to purchase the Story expansions to enjoy the whole story.
Another issue i have is that in its current state the game is not ground break in any category. Its not an amazing MMO FPS nor is it as amazing Single Player Story driven experience or a great RPG. It is kind of weak in all areas. It does however have great COOP, tightly focused gameplay mechanics and a really well designed world minus the mediocre weapon selection and strong noob aim assist.
