WARLOCK: suggestions and tips

Hello fellow guardians, I have a question about my class. I play a Warlock, presently level 9. I am taking the game nice and easy and learning, exploring and enjoying all different aspects of Destiny. I am trying the Crucible for the first time yesterday. About my background, to establish a baseline, I am a veteran of PC FPS. Therefor going from keyboard to controller is a change. Although difficult I am enjoying the transition. And that's not the reason for this post. The point of my post has to do with the overall play style and effectiveness of the class. I know that Warlocks get access to certain class specific abilities, but I am playing the class more as a sniper, ranged combat role. I also realize I am a glass cannon of sorts when it comes to supercharge attacks, but I am not 100% certain I am playing the class right. Is the scout rifle a good option for pvp? I am running a build with scout/sniper/rocket launcher. But in that build I get out gunned at close to medium range by pulse rifles and other rapid fire weapons. Those weapons do on average less damage than my scout rifle, but I get it that I would be outclassed at CQC against lower TTK weapons. Question: I want to try to be more effective, so should I stick to medium, ranged combat? If so, is the scout rifle not a good match for PVP? And is the role of the warlock to provide high DPS at range in a raid environment? Thanks in advance. I enjoy more of the CQC support role, and I am strongly leaning towards a defensive Titan build as an alternative.

  • I'm a voidwalker who stacks armour and uses a slower rate of fire auto rifle. I'm like rank 4 in aus or something muahaha. Just aim to the head and ur golden. Axion bolt grenades also are -blam!-ing great. Having no agility doesn't seems to bother me because if the map is too big you're just driving ur sparrow lol... Doesn't really matter what ur special is the high impact auto rifle is effective at long and short range. Never tried any other weapons because I always top with the auto rifle no jokes. Hope this helped

  • I have a level 23 warlock and I'm currently using a Galahad-E auto rifle and I love it. It's got med-high RoF and high impact (for auto rifles). I switch between a shotgun and sniper depending on the map or task at hand. As far as powers I use void with nova grenades and super. High agility, med recovery, low armor. Super fast glass cannon. Perfect for a quick three kills then a fast getaway. Also good for high boss damage in PvE. Very good for a lone wolf type of player like myself.

    • 25 Warlock here. My stats may not reflect it, but I consider myself a primary PvP player. There's a lot you can do to improve your Crucible experience. Most of it will come with time and practice. But the single most important advice I can give you, is to change your secondary to a shotgun.

    • Level 25 warlock here. I have not seen much success from scout rifles in this game. Also, it could just be me, but I have found that the maps don't really cater to snipers either. It's a lot of cqc, so, like people are complaining, shotguns are best. I run pulse or assault rifle/ shotgun or sniper / rocket launcher. The grenades with homing are fun and effective. They won't fully kill, but will weaken then you can run in or help finish an enemy off. Everyone is weak to supers, I don't think it's just warlocks. I haven't played crucible a ton but if you have any other questions feel free to message me.

      • As a warlock at low level trap are your friend as warlock scout rifles are good but I'd wait on them if I were you when you start getting rare to legendary they become easier to use for mid range as faster rate of fire I definitely recommend the pulse or hand cannon with higher rate of fire as a warlock for in between shots you can use your abilities easier if your have trouble at close range stick to a shotgun with spread decrease when you aim if not stick to your sniper the pulse will compensate for the closer ranges as the hip fire is awesome if your having trouble with the console crossover try the a rare fusion rifle with high recharge as they are easier for it will keep the warlock at mid ranges Hand cannon/pulse Sniper Machinegun Or Hand cannon Shotgun Rocket Or Scout Fusion Machine gun These I'd recommend Switch to machingun right now as it has usually more ammo so if you miss its not overly a big deal till you get better if you look at rocket stats there's velocity will help on that it will help cause you don't have to compensate for it as much For skills stick to vortex made annihilate surge and vortex mastery till your high as they skills help a lot in control and for setting up traps and melee will save your life if they are super close with a loss of shields it will kill them thus grenade rip shields/melee then repeat very nice for plugging up traffic or killing a campers And last but not least radar is your best friend as a warlock always have your eye on it

      • I have a warlock character (playing all three at levels 8-10 currently). The warlock ifs my biggest challenge. When things get chaotic, I am not sure how you handle it without a shotgun.
