Please read before posting a comment about how you found one from a public event, strike, Nightfall, VoG, dismantling armor, etc... I am talking about Ascendant Motes. Not Ascendant Shards, Ascendant Energy, or Motes of light. Ascendant Shards are used to upgrade legendary armor and Ascendant Energy is used to upgrade legendary weapons. The Future War Cult is selling Hunter gear that requires Ascendant Motes to upgrade. They are literally the only pieces of armor in the entire Tower that require these materials and their respective pieces for both the Warlock and Titan correctly use Ascendant Shards to upgrade - it is only the Hunter, and only on this gear that uses Ascendant Motes. Public events do not give Ascendant Motes, they give Ascendant Shards, Ascendant Energy, or Motes of Light. Dismantling legendary armor gives Ascendant Shards. The Nightfall Strike rewards gear or Ascendant Shards/Energy. The Vault of Glass rewards with Ascendant Shards/Energy. Between me and my friends we have collected over 40 Ascendant Shards and 20+ Ascendant Energy and not one of us has ever found an Ascendant Mote. If you have found and Ascendant Mote, please post a picture. Otherwise I have to conclude they are not in the game. Before arguing that we haven't seen everything yet, consider the fact that only the FWC Hunter gear uses Ascendant Motes, while the Titan and Warlock gear from the same vendor uses Shards, as well as the fact that not a single person in the game has ever found an Ascendant Mote. I find it highly unlikely that Bungie just decided that this one set of gear, only for Hunters, uses an upgrade material that is unique to every other armor upgrade for every known legendary armor, either bought or found. *Ascendant Shards do not count as progress towards Ascendant Motes, so this is not simply a naming error with the same item ID.
