Realistic Weapon Mechanics

It's probably too late for Destiny to fix this, but why is it video game developers always manage to mess up basic weapon mechanics? I'll explain: You have an assault rifle with 30 rounds in the magazine and 0 in the chamber. How many rounds do you have in total? Answer: 30 You slide the bolt back and chamber a round. You now have 29 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. Now how many rounds do you have in total? Answer: 30 You remove the magazine and exchange it with a fresh one. You now have 30 rounds in the new magazine, and - look!- you still have an extra bullet in the chamber! So now how many rounds do you have in total? Answer: 31 Now I know it's just one lousy bullet. You're probably sitting there asking yourself why it's such a big deal, and I'll tell you. Any person with basic knowledge on firearms knows that if you still have a bullet in the chamber you shouldn't pull back the charging handle after reloading because doing so would eject a perfectly fine bullet. Seeing my character do that every time makes me cringe. I understand that it would be too difficult to fix this in Destiny because there's a lot more to it than simple animation. You'd have to change ammo capacities, bullet counts, reload times etc . It's just funny to me that we're this far into the first-person-shooter genre and companies are still making this mistake. /rant

  • It is just a game… If you want realism, go play Battlefailed. I do not think the "normal firearms" you speak of fire plasma/flaming/electrified rounds either… Deal with it, or stop playing, simple as that.

This thread is stupid. Who gives a sht, its a game... You play as a robot.. Fighting aliens on Venus. And thats ok, but gun mechanics for you pulse rifle and rocket launcher need to be accurate. Why am i picturing you wrapped in rebel flag.. Drinking coors or miller lite.. Mullet

      • You know the assault rifle you get at the very beginning? The "old" one. It's completely wacked and is the only one that irritates me. The gun itself is left handed, when chambering a round the charging handle is not used, and considering the fact it has a charging handle.... it has a knob on the bolt carrier which irl would make it so you wouldn't even be able to put a round in the gun anyways.

      • Okay so this is a video game about super-powered marines taking on several alien races attempting to wipe out humanity as we know it, and your concern is that the guns don't work like real guns? That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. If it were a WW2 shooter or something I'd be a little more understanding about your rant (useless as it is seeing this is a video game), but this is a space age shooter where the technology is a billion times more advanced than our own. How do you know their weapons would work the same as ours? How do you know they even fire solid rounds and not some sort of heating plasma or metal like Mass Effect?

        • Anyone else miss old style guns like the AR you pick up at the start?

lol Destiny is not the only one with these mechanics. COD and like 99% of other shooters have it too. Is just a game, I get it. Still kinda annoying though. lol

            • I've played one game that ever used this: Crysis.

              • Wow. I hadn't realized how cynical this community was. I'm here to have a discussion, not to entertain you people. If you are disappointed by this post then go read something else. It's an interesting phenomenon watching game companies make these mistakes over again. I'm not here to bash Bungie or Destiny, I am simply drawing attention to an interesting fact.
