Why do people complain about Engrams?

Why do people complain about Engrams? The other day I read a post that was someone complaining about buying a Exotic chest piece Engram and then enraged at the fact they only revived a legendary. I don't get it. The whole point of Engrams is to give the sense of excitement and mystery hoping that you will get something good, yet you always know there is a chance you can get something awful, even if you've spent a fair amount of time grinding or saving up Motes of Light for an Exotic Engram. Almost like a pack opening in Mass Effect 3. All I'm trying to get across is that, why do people complain if they get something bad when they knew it could happen in the first place?

  • I get engrams being random... what I dont get is why everything is random.. I ran lvl 24 strike playlist... I get a lvl 16 blue for a reward... I run a butting though normal dust palace. He gets an exotic weapon.. I solo a lvl 24 dust palace because people drop out. I get a lvl 16 blue again.. run another friend through a lvl 24 strike he gets 4 legendary engrams during the run, and an exotic chest at the end.. I got 4 greens in run and blue boots at the end.. boots where lvl 18 but not even close to an upgrade..

    • They should just make all engrams the same. No longer make them rare, legendary or exotic. Because it obviously doesn't matter anyway as it seems the type of engram in no way affects what item you get. This way no one will be pissed off with what they get because they will be none the wiser.

    • My only complaint is the legendary engrams shouldn't contain a chance to get uncommon items ... I mean really ? That's just a kick in the nuts if you get that.

      • I would rather it just drop the item instead if having to waste a few minutes going to the tower TBH. Nothing is as satisfying as getting and actual drop, not the same effect from a vendor.

        • Let's fast forward a few years. Destiny 4 is about to come out. You managed to get your hands on on of the few collectors editions, let's assume that you were lucky and quick enough to get all of the ones before. You worked hard and saved up money for months in anticipation of it being announced. You go to the midnight release for gamestop because you couldn't wait for the next morning. You get home and you open it up with sweaty and shaky hands and what do you know, it's just the standard edition of the first game. Wouldn't you be pissed? Of course you would. If you pay for something you should settle for no less than what you were promised.

          • Because it feels like bait and switch. It's like here's a shiny exotic or legendary engram which you expect to turn into an exotic or legendary item but instead turns out to be only uncommon or rare. It's like going out and buying a Lamborghini and realizing when you get home it's just a cleverly painted tractor.

            • Pack opening in Mass Effect 3 was one of the worst things about that game. It wasn't fun, it wasn't exciting; it was tedious gambling to try and keep you playing longer and giving them cash. Destiny isn't as bad because drops don't cost real money, but it's still pretty bad. Seeing a purple drop is exciting. Seeing a purple drop and then having it turn out to be a green isn't. It makes getting loot boring.

            • I assumed a legendary engram would probably turn into a legendary item with a rare chance of becoming something either side. It seems they are most likely to turn into blue items with a small chance of actually becoming legendary.

            • If I get a legendary engram, I want a legendary. This is not me begging for bungie to spoon feed them to me, it's me saying if I grind for a legendary and get part of one, I deserve the full one. It takes them ages to drop anyway! Honestly, to solve this issue I think they should just drop "engrams" of no rarity so we don't know what we are getting. This way it would stop people getting stressed and posts like this being made :)

It reminds me of when I used to buy magic cards and the excitement of opening the packs. You just never know. I love them.

                    • Because people forgot how to read!!! Very similar to their shopping methods. They fail to read the fine print involving anything. It is clearly marked, "Possible Contents." No where does it ever say, "Hey bro, this is so guaranteed to be what you want." I can't deal with folks logic these days. Smh.

                    • Because it feels like most of the engrams you get are one value below the engram you get. Example: a rare engram = uncommon gear, legendary = rare. It is frustrating getting something that should be good but is almost always garbage.

                      • I think the engrams are fun my only complaint is at the end of hard strikes and i mean 22 and above have the last damn boss drop some blues or legend. At least award us a blue instead of level 18 armor in a level 22 strike. At least with an engram i have a chance one or two blue engrams awarded at the end is not to much to ask.

                      • People complain about everything, and miss the point of the engram. I enjoy the surprise, I know eventually I will get something good. :) You are making me miss ME3 now, grinding to buy packs was so awesome!

Because if I get a legendary engram, I don't expect it to be a rare or uncommon. If it says legendary I should get a legendary. Otherwise they should be labeled appropriately. This is basic stuff.

                        • It's more like an exercise in frustration because 90% of the time you get a purple engram it turns out to be a blue item or material. Then like 8% of that remaining 10% is going to be a purple for the wrong class.
