If we can all look past the hype and who made the game, Bungie, and we actually look at the game itself, its a beautiful game with great FPS mechanics yet it feels devoid of life, filled with forgettable characters. Let's look at Halo, when someone says Halo you automatically think of Master Chief, because that's the face of that franchise. If someone says The Last of Us, you think of Ellie and Joel because of how well that games story was crafted. Now let's take a look at Destiny, it doesn't have a face of the franchise character. Since it has the "create a character" thing, that's fine, EXCEPT then they should have made some memorable NPC's. For example, The Speaker, The Queen or the random Exo had good potential. But you only see The Queen twice and isn't expanded upon or given a back story. The Speaker who is supposed to be the "Voice of the Traveler" is reduced to a vendor who has 2 cut scenes. The other thing is, there isn't enough story telling in the game, it almost feels like Titanfall where there's a voice over in the beginning and a voice over at the end. I believe there need to be more cut scenes in the actual missions themselves. Not tons more, just a few, to kind of show you that the mission your on, has moved to the next section. Also the world is empty. The gorgeous landscape is barren with emptiness. All the enemies in explore mode have small designated areas they just stand at waiting for people to come to, and those are all in the same spots they where in the story. I'm not saying put so many that they're everywhere you turn like how it is on Mars in the train station. I'm saying just increase the areas the enemies are and what they do. Maybe they're sitting talking, maybe they're patrolling. Just vary it instead of all just standing in the same spots as the story. When I first saw the Black Garden after going through the Vex Portal I took a few screenshots. It looked beautiful and I thought "now this...I need more of this" but to my disappointment once you get to the garden, the insides of it are forgettable. Throw that in with how once you beat the game you're given the same weapon no matter your class, and the same generic leader gives a speech ending, its badly done. Also the loot...increase how often you get loot drops. When facing bosses a House Banners isn't enough. Make them drop engram's, they could be green it doesn't matter, but give us something besides 200 glimmer. Luckily there's a game that came out before that was similar to Destiny at launch. Diablo 3. Now after updates Diablo is a great game to play since they listened to the community feedback and adjusted the game accordingly. If Bungie follows the roadmap/blueprints from Diablo they could easily make all the review sites change there scores.
This is the final thing. Usually when a good game gets bad scores or a bad game gets good scores, the fans erupt. Look at Zelda, if Zelda ever got less than an 8, there'd be riots. Whenever CoD gets more than a 7 or 8, people erupt on the sites. Destiny got low scores across the boards and most of the people are just like "eh yeah that's about right" The fans are what make great games, great. Destiny isn't a great game. Its a good game. Tto be great, it needs to fix the problems with patches and updates/DLC
The second DLC expansion "The House of Wolves" will hopefully expand on the Queen of the Reef, since she rules over the Fallen of that house, (after defeating the Fallen house leader they became subservient to her), according to her Grimoire card. The first expansion "The Dark Below" focuses on the Hive. I assume it takes us back to the moon, but it could occur anywhere, including earth, since it said they have been "seeding" Earth for conquest, and we know they are subterranean. I hope these expansions flesh out the story a lot more. I'm gonna give BUNGIE the benefit of the doubt. I hope in the sequel they add named NPC quest givers out in the worlds, to give it some life and personality, like Fallout 3.
