My Opinion on Destiny

Ok, so after some internal debate I figured I would offer up my two cents on the game I've been waiting for ages to play. I didn't really want to do this, as I generally avoid posting my opinions in the caustic environment that is the Internet. However with so much hate and defending going on, I thought "What the heck, I might as well." So this is one player's opinion- not a big website, not a professional, just one person. Dismiss it, think about it, rage against it if you will. Up to you. Destiny is by no means perfect. Everyone has their issues with the game, as they should- opinions are important. My personal list of complaints consist of a few features I believe should be here that aren't: matchmaking for things like the Heroic Weekly Strikes, some sort of public chat for the Tower, perhaps an improved loot distribution for the Crucible (yes, that one is more personal than most. Don't take it seriously), but undoubtedly most of all the story. Yes yes I know I'm probably beating a very dead horse at this point, but I really was disappointed by the story. Well not exactly disappointed, closer to confused. I mean this was Bungie! The people who delivered one of my favorite game stories of all time, the Halo saga! Ok, maybe I inflate my opinion of them a little, but the point remains- I had and have absolutely no idea what is going on in Destiny, story wise. Who or what is the Traveler? Is it an "it" or a "he"? What is the Darkness? Who is the real enemy? The Vex, the Fallen, the Hive? What did the end of the game mean? WHAT AM I DOING THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE GAME? If there's a book or some other form of media that explains what's going on (other than the Grimoire cards, I'm aware of them) please please PLEASE tell me of it. I'm dying to know what I was doing other than killing a whole slew of aliens that I'm not even sure I'm supposed to be fighting in the first place. So that's my biggest con with the game, but I do have pros to it as well. The game isn't bad. It is not bad, terrible, unplayable, broken, or any other word you may assign to it. The core gameplay remains tight and familiar (a feature that surprisingly few games get right out of the gate). The enemies, despite my reservations about them, are relatively diverse and pretty fun to fight. The environments are absolutely gorgeous, full of rich colors and lens flares that would make J. J. Abrams proud. The Crucible is fun, the loot is definitely worth grinding for (again, despite how elusive it remains to me)... You get it, there are things I like about the game. So with both things I like and things that really bother me about the game, do I like it? Yes, yes I do. I choose to like it, despite its flaws. Not everyone does, but that's ok, they don't have to. And if someone from Bungie does happen to read this- you guys did good. Thanks for making the game, and I can't wait for the upcoming months. So that's my opinion on Destiny. The TL:DR version- I like Destiny, despite its flaws. If I was a professional and had to give a score on it... let's say 8 out of 10. Oh and hey, that Paul McCartney song at the end? Nice touch.
