WORST STORY EVER for a supposedly massive game meant to go for 10 yaers?
I didn't even know the Story was finished until i researched on the internet that im stuck, but in fact i was finished. The story sucks, they said they want this game to last 10 years some1 help me out here lmao what is going on with this game. I thought there would be more interaction and an open world. I cant believe im saying this but COD HAS BETTER story lines for each game they bring out!!!!

While I agree the story wasn't the strongest, it didn't really bother me that much. To me it just seemed like a "hey do some good stuff and you will be recognized for it ." It's vague and a tad impersonal, but hey..You tell your own story in a game like this. There is enough flexibility to play a variety of styles and paths, and the combat mechanics are spot on imo. Your story, for now I suppose, is how you get to level 26 and what you do after (chase exotic, dom in crucible, with/without homies, form a clan, etc.) I dunno, I think it has a fair amount of scope. The part of the OP's rant that I do really agree with is that I would have liked to see bigger, contiguous maps with more depth and dimension. Something to really suck you in and make you want to explore. As it stands, the maps are far too linear. I'm not saying it[i] can or should [/i] be Skyrim, but something that has a more 'world' feel than than 'level' feel. Being able to actually cruise a truly massive map and really explore with this game engine would be phenomenal.

I dont think this was a good start to the story. I never felt immersed even once. I have very little attachment to my ghost. I would gladly trade him in for a machinegun on my Sparrow.

I can honestly say this was the worst campaign I have ever played. It never picked up, it was extremely repetitive with little to no variability between missions, and for such a beautiful world they created, it left me wanting to care about it and the campaign doesn't make me do that at all.

I agree completely, the story we were given was completely and utterly disappointing. However it was a decent "first chapter" of you will. Like they say at the end, it's far from over

If you are going to tell a story over the expanse of 10 years, you don't tell the entire thing from the begining. What you have witnessed is the begining chapter of your saga. Now you have the opportunity to explore the world, endulge in its lore and when the next chapter begins your immersion into its reality will be all that much deeper. The mark of a good story teller is to always leave the audience wanting to hear more, which appears to have worked on you. I won't assume that you are truely foolish to believe that this is all the story that will ever be. Are you?

Ill agree that the short story so far made me feel uneasy but now that I saw the schedule they have set up so far I remembered this game is supposed to last 10 years. I'll be patient, I always am. It'll be like watching your favorite show then the season ends and you see that there is another season on its way soon. People are acting like its the end that the game is over...give it time and people will be talking about how awesome things have become story wise. I'll put my trust in Bungie.

Common theme I am seeing, "Give it time theres gonna be a lot of DLC." Sure they could have a lot of DLC that could enhance the story. That does not change the fact that on release they provided a terrible story. Not only that it was a partial story. You dont release a game with a partial story and then provide the rest in a DLC. Even games, books and movies seperated into trilogies provide a complete story for each part. Destiny opted to just give us a few chapters and thats all. Not only did they give us a partial story that partial story is terrible. Nothing in this is original or presented in a unique way. The Fallen are stereotypical post apocalyptic/alien, the Hive is a new rendition of the flood, the Vex are perfect parallels to the Geth in Mass Effect, and the Cabal are reskinned Brutes. The story's of each race mirror what inspired them lacking a lot of originality. NOTHING is explained and Grimoires DO NOT substitute for the story. They aren't even in the game and they themselves provide minimal if not completely vague information on the world of Destiny. The final point I just can't deal with in the story is that (without spoiling anything) the ending drains all the excitment (what little there is) by telling you "Great job, not that it matters." A side note, WoW may not tell a great story at times but it tells a full story in the original and in each expansion.

1 ReplyThe story -- and the world -- is a lot more expansive than you're giving it credit for. Grimoire, for starters. Also, Bungie said they plan to SUPPORT the game for 10 years, not that they're going to have it "last" 10 years by supplying new storylines or anything.

You have no right to complain about the story, if you were that interested, you would seek outside sources instead of demanding to be spoon fed.

But again, they have "10 years" so who knows, maybe they're thinking outside the box on this one. I hate those Grimoire cards though, seems they just got lazy with it.

You have to have it all right up front. right then. right there. If not then it's somehow fail or broken. If you took 5 minutes of your life you would see they have continued events ready one being Queens Wrath in OCT. for free. The story isn't finished as The Stranger literally says. "All endings are new beginnings" If everyone here claims to be Bungies fans forever you would clearly know to read between the lines and would know you don't get things handed to you. This being a blatantly obvious one and if you are a PS gamer then your welcome for the tip.

2 Replies10 years dude. It's been 7 days. Just chill and play the game. And don't be ridiculous, none of COD's stories are close to what Destiny is. I have complaints about the story mode yes, but the STORY is fantastic. And not close to being over. Be patient friend.

Still releasing stuff so stay calm. It doesn't seem like much but be patient it'll all be amazing eventually... Well if it's not already for you. I've enjoyed the game much more than most games I play.

Lots of games have worse stories even after 10 years. WoW for instance. But that being said. The spirit of what you had to say is correct. Even if you were as big a douche as possible while saying it.

1 ReplyI am walking the fence on this. I feel that the potential is there; however, this is the work of six years? There are examples beyond measure of MMOs providing more backstory then this. Is this HORRIBLE first effort the result of trying to release a MMO on console? If so then I will try to patiently hold my breath. I think that what is truly upsetting most people is that for $60 they can get an RPG that lasts 50-100 hours. ( 200+ hours on Skyrim and still going) The mistake is in the hype ... People saw RPG flavor wrapped in MMO and sadly it is currently mostly MMO and wander around killing rabbits in Goldshire. Can it be better? Absolutely!!! Should it be better? If they want any more money.

7 RepliesHas anyone stopped to think that this game is going to see expansions and additions to the story over a long course? This game wouldn't be the epic that they said it was if they gave you the whole story up front. Besides, even if the story was everything anyone would ever want, people would still complain that there's still not enough story content for the next N-number of years. Just take a look at the "Events Inbound" newsletter. There is a section called: "The Queen's Wrath". Everything I know tells me that this is more SP story content. It's quite obvious that there is MUCH more coming. There aren't any plot holes, simply things that have yet to be hugely expanded apon. Do you really think that we would complete the story without finding out who/what the traveler is or the origin of the Darkness? C'mon, guys. INB4: "They shouldn't have shipped a game half done!" (That's the point! Just another great reason to keep coming back to the game!)
