The Centipede and Your University.

Hey, Bungie Community. Day One of Destiny is behind us. We’re still hard at work to make sure all of you have a great experience. Thanks in part to chatter on our forums, we’re aware of some networking issues being experienced on college and university campuses. Our team is engaged in diagnosing the cause, but you might also be able to help. Members of the Bungie team will be contacting some of you directly to troubleshoot. Keep an eye on your Bungie.net inbox to see if you’ve been drafted as a test subject. If you don’t hear from us, we still love you and we’re still working to get you into orbit. Please continue to report any issues you experience on this forum. Watch this space for updates. UPDATE 1.0: We’re making progress toward a solution to the university network issue. A potential cause are security devices that don’t recognize Destiny network traffic. We’re in touch with the manufacturers of these devices to create an update that we hope will enable you to play. Stay tuned as work on this continues. In the meantime, it might be a good idea to learn the contact information for your network administrator. Stand by! UPDATE 2.0: We have isolated the issue and are working with security device manufacturers to release a fix this coming Monday, September 15th. Affected universities will need to apply the patch from the security device vendor to fix the problem. Once the patch is released, we’ll add details to this thread that you can forward to your network administrators. Stand by, be brave, and have a nice weekend. [b]UPDATE 3.0: We have determined the cause at the root of most of the issues being encountered on university campuses. We have been in touch with network admins at most of the universities listed on this forum (thanks again for helping us help you). In summary, there are network security devices that have been incorrectly identifying Destiny traffic as a bit-torrent. We have also reached out the manufacturers of the security devices in question. They've been awesome, and have released an update that will allow you to play on a network protected by their hardware. That update will need to be applied by your local network administrators, assuming they have not done this already.[/b] If you would like to put us in touch with the people in charge of your network, tell them to email us at universitynetworks@bungie.com, or provide us with their contact information. Do not post it here! We'll be working to solve every issue that blocks a Guardian from the Tower. Keep posting on this forum.

    • It is 04/11/14 in Melbourne, Australia and I haven't been able to sign on to Destiny on my PS4 since 29/10/14 and I keep getting this message [b]EVERY[/b] time I try: "You have lost connection with the Destiny Servers. Your permissions to access online multiplayer may have changed or your profile may have been signed in elsewhere." What is really happening! And how long is going to take to fix?! Oh, yes I forgot, there is also message underneath the first one: "For more information, visit help.bungie.net." I have been visiting help.bungie.net for [b]DAYS[/b] and gotten [b]NOWHERE!![/b] I have contacted PlayStation Support, Australia and although they have tried to help, the problem is [b] obviously[/b] with Bungie, yet they will [b]NOT[/b] let you contact support directly.

    • It's November now. The Centipedes have turned into Bees, Bees turned into Zebras, Zebras into Baboons, Baboons into Weasels. Will I have to meet every creature in the animal kingdom before I get to play on campus? College: Kean University Console: 360 Gamertag: RadicalEdward2 I've tried to give the game and the company the benefit of the doubt but I can't even play the game that I already know is struggling to survive on its multiplayer alone (since the story included with the initial play is too watered down). I know you guys are working hard to fix this (while also getting back at Microsoft for the whole love/hate relationship) but can I at least take comfort knowing that I can play this game I waited 6 years for? Please?

    • Quail has really been killing me when trying to join a fireteam, beaver keeps me from tower, and flatworm decides to pop up to just mess with me. Me and my roommate have both sent you guys an email with our school's (Saint Leo University) contact info. Please contact our school.     • Centipede strikes again! As of today, the game is completely unplayable for me. I go to the New Jersey Institute of Technology and have been able to play for a few weeks now with some errors along the way but nothing this drastic for a long time. I can't even get to the character selection screen (like the first few weeks of the centipede error) and I was able to play all day yesterday. Sincerely, A Guardian defeated by the Centipede P.S. After all the centipede errors (and other error codes, hopefully) eventually dissipates, you guys should put a raid boss in the game named "Centipede" so I may seek my revenge as a Guardian on the monstrous bug that has been destroying my fun for too long.

      • SOOO, I'm back! Everything was working great there for a while but now (thanks to that oh so helpful update Bungie just made) I can't get past the title screen again! If anyone from Temple (or anywhere really) is experiencing this please comment. Oh... why can't things ever just be simple...

        • after you guys did the update, I am no longer able to log into my player. I get centipede and chicken.... I am on the ps4 platform and I am on a college network. I thought this was fixed? you guys just made it worse

        • Centipede is back. Screw you, Bungie. Im done with this game anyway. There is nothing left to do in it; im level 28 and its just boring now. Im sure the DLC will be the exact same thing also, but just slighty different areas. Time to head back to my old games

                • ok so i like destiny alot an i have 2 characters. a lvl 8 warlock and a lvl 17 hunter. when i try to go on my hunter it says i cant connect"error code centipide" BUT when i go on my warlock it is fine. can someone please help i have a good internet connection in a house.                   • Ok, since the beta was released and up until yesterday morning at around 6:15AM EST I had absolutely no trouble at all with disconnects, however, since then I am constantly and randomly disconnected to such a point I can no longer play the game. I own my own house with my own dedicated Internet line (My house is the only one on the line). I have a WNDR3700 wireless router which i use the LAN port to play the console on. I have tried EVERYTHING on the tech support page with no results. This includes; setting a static IP, port forwarding, rerouting to different IP etc. The only thing that seems to work is if i plug the PS4 right into the back of the modem for a type 1 internet connection. Im happy I can play, but now NOTHING else has internet connection since i cant use the router!!. Is there any updates on this?
