Xbox One, Canary Error, Repeated Disconnects

I have, so far, only been able to play Destiny for short 10-15 minute bursts before being disconnected and shown the error code "Canary", sometimes being followed up immediately by the error code "Marionberry" (but that has only ever shown up directly after getting the Canary error). I am using a _wired_ connection directly to my router (Asus RT-ac66u), which is itself connected directly to my Motorola Surfboard SB6141 modem. All of my connection tests come back fine, and I am showing an open NAT type. All of the suggested ports have been forwarded, and hard power cycling all devices in order has not solved the problem. This is very strange since I have no trouble playing other games for long periods without problems (Titanfall for instance). Any help would be very much appreciated!

  • I have the same issue and have been monitoring when this occurs to see if there is a common time. This happens the second the clock turns as follows: 03, 13, 23, 33, 43, 53. As you can see this is a strict pattern. I hope this helps you resolve the issue as soon as possible as 10 minutes restricts gameplay massively.

I'm having the exact same problem as all of you guys. I hope it gets resolved soon cause this game is so good but the disconnects are quite frustrating. I'm using Virgin Super Hub 2, did all of the network troubleshooting but to no avail.

    • Same here, using the Virgin Media Superhub 2 in the UK, rock solid 152mb connection, no issues with any other game. I can play Battlefield 4 for hours on end, the same with Forza and many other games. I had the same issue on the BETA and put it down to an issue that would be fixed in the final game, wrong! I've opened all the ports as suggested but still kicked every 10-15 mins meaning I'm getting nowhere in the game, so annoying.

        • Playing on ps4, had no problems in beta or first two days of play, now when I play crucible I'm plagued by lag and disconnects (bee error usually) and pve is just an unstable. Wish they'd fix this because clearly it's affecting a lot of people

        • Started a new topic: bungie what the hell

        • Same thing here, everything else works wirelessly (and my setup was fine yesterday for 5 hours uninterrupted) but this evening I've been kicked out twice and only started playing 20 mins ago. No Bungie, there is not a problem with my network config, it's your servers. Happened in the beta a lot, which I thought was testing network load etc, but were lessons learned/acted on? Very frustrating :(

          • I too have the same problem on ps4, I connect for 5 minutes and then I get disconnected with an error message. I have a NAT 2 but I do not think this is the problem because in the beta could play

            • Agree %100 The game was working fine for the first 12 hours with no disconnects. I can't even play 10 min without it kicking me off. I don't buy the "Network setup" link they send either. I followed instructions verbatim. Even though I have had an XB Gold Account for 13 years as well as a PS account and I have the network set up the same way and can play anything else or use apps, surf the web....whatever. Anyway I looked at the system log on my router and it is dropping packets @ the same time I am being kicked off. Funny thing is that the incoming traffic being denied is wanting to access random ports. Like I said I have always had the MS recommended ports open as well as the ports for my playstation and even opened up all the ports that Bungie suggested.....but....the traffic that is being dropped is requesting to come in through ports that are not open. Bungie says open up ports 7500-17899 as well as 30000-40399 outgoing thru TCP. Well by default these are already open. I can see why they need 20thousand ports open....rolling eyes...anyway they also recommend opening 35000-35099...99 ports..using UDP and TCP protocols incoming and outgoing.. Ok. i did that. the default port 3074 is open as well per MS instructions and always has been. Wow I need a nap after all this. So to sum it up they are asking to open up those 99 ports for incoming traffic...but the traffic that is being dropped is coming from the same IP address that the game servers are on but asking for ports like these over the past hour...17763, 256, 8650, 5957, 22403, 11099, 32514, 23486 and several more. well Bungie asks us to open up the above ports both ways which would be 35000-35099 as well as 3074. Ok. So what I want to know is...why are all those random ports coming from the game servers wanting permission to come thru my firewall when they only asked to open up those above mentioned ports 35000-35099? I for one am not opening up all my ports on the firewall just because they cannot seem to stick to the recommended 99 open ports. but just for laughs i did for an hour. No interruptions. Smooth gameplay as you could ever ask for. Same as yesterday morning. How do you know its the game servers asking for data packets to come thru those ports you say? Because I turned the came off and the requests for throughput stopped immediately. Plus I served some time in prison for hacking into a Dunk1n D0unutz chain. Sorry for the long reply but its a very simple fix on their end and I am mad as hell that I spent $89 to sit here and do nothing.

              • Same issue here but connected wirelessly through a Linksys (Cisco) E900. The thing about it is that as I have been trouble shooting it and making the requested adjustments the issue gets WORSE not better. Open NAT, all ports forwarded, static IP and instead of the random centipede error I am getting canary constantly and sporadic centipede and catepillar. I can get it to work for a brief period if I reboot the XBO and my entire network (router/modem and rooftop antenna) but that is only good for very brief periods of time. My next step is to install a switch, add a public IP that will be completely outside of the ISP firewall and router control to see if that will fix it. While I love troubleshooting things, I don't love it for games as that is how I relax and forget about my stressful forms of trouble shooting that I do all day at work.

                • Hello NeoNxxBlack I see you have a router and then a modem this may be your issue. Sometimes your internet company sets up a modem that acts like a router. I would call my phone company and ask if your modem is acting like a router. If it is it does not matter how many ports you forward on your router if the modem doesn't forward them they are not going anywhere.

                  • Mate, I have the exact same issue, every 5 mins I'm thrown out with the canary error code displayed - all of my settings are spot on too. Can't believe I paid £55 for a game that won't work. Bungie you suck.

I'm exactly the same. All my settings are correct, even the BETA worked perfectly for me but now I can only play for max 10mins before being kicked off. Funny how every other internet feature on the xbox works fine. Was so hyped for this game, very disappointed.

                    • Spoke to microsoft... They told me to open my ports: Steef: •Port 88 (UDP) Steef: •Port 3074 (UDP and TCP) Steef: •Port 53 (UDP and TCP) Steef: •Port 80 (TCP) Steef: •Port 500 (UDP) Steef: •UDP Port 3544 (UDP) Steef: •UDP Port 4500 (UDP) I did that still didnt work, spoke to microsoft again... Had to verify my xbox live account via laptop DIDNT WORK... Spoke to them again, they cleared persistent storage 3 times (Setting<Disc-Blueray<persistent storage< clear) DIDNT WORK. Reinstalled live profile... didnt work.. They then basically said bungie pretty much cant handle the demand.

                      • I'm the same buddy, I get canary error code and destiny tells me that there is no internet connection but all online features of my x1 work, I've tried everything to fix this with no luck. As it stands destiny is unplayable for me, 10 minute bursts isn't enough time to do anything :(

                        • Getting the exact same thing there is nothing wrong with my connection I have good speed and the highest Virgin Media have to offer I'm on a superhub and I cannot explain my frustration with the game when I get this error code I am completely unable to get anywhere in the game, I have no problem in any other games so this needs to be fixed ASAP

I'm with the same problem. And I see no gain from bungie to fix it.
