Inventory/vault size and how it will effect us all

Quoted from a reliable site, "there’s a new stat called “Inventory Size - How much space the weapon occupies in the inventory.”This is most likely the determination of how many exotics one can equip but it brings us back to the topic of vault space. I personally feel that with the small amount of vault space shared between 3 characters is not going to be nearly enough. For one or maybe two characters yes but not three. Lets say you land 4 exotics on your first character and some 5 legendary, you want to pass them to your next character. That next character alone grabs 6 exotics and a few legendaries. Now your out of room so you have to create a third character just to hold the overflow but this character is low lever and can't even equip these awesome items much less hold more for their own leveling. It's going to have to happen that we get more vault space, this is a loot shooter with more guns to come. I recommend just increasing the vault space soon by at least double. I guarantee people are going to hit up this forum in a few weeks to bring this issue up again. What does everyone else think about this issue?

  • I'll admit, I'm a loot hoarder, I need all the space I can get

  • I just don't want to have to choose between guns when I don't have any room. If I have tons of guns thats one thing but with the small amount of space we get... I don't know

  • There really needs to be SOME vault space allocated just for that one character. So I can keep my Titan Armour separate from my Hunter and Warlock armour for example. For example you get a nice helmet but it doesn't match your current build... but it will match a different Titan build that I will put together later. Remember each piece has Strength, Discipline and Intellect stats too. Do I keep a build that is equally balanced or do I most into Discipline. Until I find a build I like I will want to swap and change at will until I get something that... fits my playstyle. For that to occur I will want quite a bit of storage space... but still have plenty of space on my character for any other loot I find. I don't want to have to stop in the middle of a raid deciding what to trash and keep just to pick up a new engram after all.

  • Completely agree. Being a little OCD, (LOL) I was actually going to try and collect all the guns and Armour etc for each character. This would be impossible esp. Since the Armour is exclusive to each character. 😞

They may allow you to expand you're inventory through purchases using glimmer, or with this new inventory system they could make it so things only take up like .3 of a spot, so 20 spots in the vault would be a lot more than just 20. Or it could be the vault was limited to 20 items only for the beta, there's no way to know, but considering this whole game is about acquiring loot I assume there will be plenty of storage space.

  • If "inventory size" becomes a factor though then we'll just have to see how it's implemented. It could cause an issue beyond what's currently seen though. Of course the mechanics aren't very obvious given the data, and implies that there's already a different storage system in place. Any random weapon example Necrochasm (inventory size 60) or Devil's Due (10) makes no sense given that that would literally take more slots than we had available in the beta. 60 primary slots would cover all of that characters inventory for primaries, plus fill the vault, and still require help to carry. Devil's due does the same with special. Yeah, if it's really a thing there's already a new inventory system. If the inventory system is the same then 10 exotics in your example isn't really game breaking. I've no problem breaking down exotics if I'm not going to use them, I'm not going to be saving any armor pieces for other characters, they won't be able to wear them, so just a few key pieces if I want to swap builds, basically 1-2 spaces for each guardian for each item, it was relatively functional. Given what we had in the beta the vault wasn't bad if people didn't want to hoard for no reason. There was enough space to swap around a fair amount of weapons, and armor. I still think the best idea previously was ships for storage, bigger ship, more stuff you can cram in the hold, but given the inventory size stat, there's probably already a new system in place, so it's irrelevant till we play with it.

    • There needs to be enough vault space for every legendary and exotic in the game, simple as that.

    • So what do I do with all those guns and armor sets I'll be getting from the raid? Do I always have to inventory my stuff because there is barely any room? All I'm saying is just increase the vault space. It's not game breaking to do so and mark my words there is going to come a time when you and your friends find yourselves hitting up this forum due to the fact that all that loot has put your game in a freeze.

    • I think you are assuming a lot without playing the full game. You can carry quit a bit of gear on each character so you can switch gear as needed. Gear is also made to be broken down to upgrade better gear so not always good to horde it. Your character can hold also quite a bit of materials and consumables. In the beta I didn't seem to fill even half of it. I only used the vault when I wanted to give other characters items. Not saying you are wrong, just didn't see an issue in beta and don't know if it'll be an issue at endgame.

        • I'm going to save gear to give my second and third characters a jump start. No real reason to save gear other than that because there isn't any trading. Why are people saving gear? Aesthetic reasons?

There's a lot of space. It's easy to fill it up with shit you'll never use but keep just because they're rare; that's what I did in the Beta (knew it was getting wiped so didn't bother to housekeep). You just have to make more choices. Your gear will be more meaningful for it. I don't think Bungie intends for everyone to have arc, solar, void, and normal versions of every gun, and full armor sets for either discipline, intellect, and.. the other one

          • The vault can be expanded as far as I can remember for a glimmer fee.
