Halo Reach, Bungie's last Halo game. I greatly enjoyed playing the game and had loads of fun, but I keep hearing so much negativity about the game being the worst in the series. I didn't get why so many hated it so much, all over so little things. In most reviews I've seen and read, most of them point out the major problems in the game are the Story, the Ranking System, and Armor Abilities (mostly Armor Lock).
For the story, I didn't have a problem with even when those heavy duty halo fans say it was not following the book. I never read any of the halo books and that's good. The story doesn't need to match the book when a newbie comes to play, it's simple enough for almost anyone new who comes in to understand. Not only that, but you also get to have your own Spartan in the story, not a campaign about Master Chief but a campaign about you in Noble Team. I found that to be fun. Plus friends could join as their own Spartans instead of random generic ones and they don't disappear in most of the cutscenes.
For the Ranking System, I don't give a s**t about the ranking system, I play the game to have fun. What annoys me is that some reviewers say Halo Reach sucks because of the Ranking System and that's just stupid. Don't judge the entire game all because it doesn't have a proper system in it like Halo 3. Too many time in 3 my team has left all because there's a general on the other team. In Reach, you could be max rank and still not intimidate people into leaving. The gameplay is fun, and that's all that matters to me.
And then there is Armor Abilities, while some hate it, I found it to be an interesting addition as armor abilities are optional in some game modes. They changed the way we fight in these new maps. Maps that can become infinite with the advanced Forge we got. I made tons of new game modes in Reach, far more than I did in Halo 3. Bungie added a lot to Halo Reach, despite taking VIP out, but they replaced it with Invasion. And with the armor abilities game modes became even more creative. Then there is Armor Lock, the one ability that many can hate. I do agree that Armor Lock gets annoying in games like team slayer or any small team battles. But on larger maps, it wasn't a bother for me. In 3, I would get run over or shot be tanks constantly, letting the other guy get a very high score. With Armor Lock, you make those sunday drivers think twice, you can survive one or two shots from the tank, or you become the cover when you are getting shot by a sniper. Take Armor Lock out if you want, but that would be one less creative item for forge. Like this one game mode (I can't remember the name), one team must drive over a bridge to get points while another team with an Armor Lock glitch just shoves them off. It was one of those game that redeemed Armor Lock a little.
That's all I'm going to say now, comment below on how you felt about Reach. Did you like it, did you hate it, or was it just... meh?

I think it's a pretty great game.

It's more subtle than yes/no/meh. Campaign game play was good, campaign story was weak. They said they designed encounters first then arranged them into a story. And it showed. Armor permutations were great, but armor abilities were never quite right. Firefight 2.0 was my favorite part of the entire game. Being able to customize the game extended the life even more. The challenges, doubly so. Game type invitations were interesting, but they overcame demand for 24-hour-round-the-clock-must-kill-kill-kill-slayer.

Post this in #gaming please.

It was good, but it wasn't very "halo-like." I mean, the movement sort of resembled COD more than H2.

Story sucked, campaign was fun, forge and customs were awesome, multiplayer was the usual 'meh'.

Favorite Halo game. Couldn't stop playing Invasion and MLG.

I loved reach when it came out but when the updates came along it all changed now the game isn't balanced a few playlists are in the matchmaking system and people don't play them assassination tower is the ONLY custom game I see. I only wish to play the beta version of reach and keep that version in the full game with a couple updates here and there to keep the game running but now reach isn't the same for me

Halo reach> Halo 2

I absolutely loved reach. Loved the DMR. Loved the maps. The ranking system was uncompetitive, but people still don't understand that the matchmaking systems working behind the scenes were just as effective as any halo MP (it just wasn't "visible"). In my opinion, the addition of reticle bloom added a whole new level to gunplay. Though many criticized it as "random", they couldn't be further from the truth. It rewarded precision as well as the pacing of shots. You knew EXACTLY where your shot would land, and whether your next would fall in the same place or not. It was an incredible anti-noob tool, punishing those who would simply pull the trigger as fast as possible (which you could do with the BR). Ultimately I've never met someone who was good at reach who didn't like it. I knew far to many halo 2-3 vets who hated it simply because they couldn't get used to it, but many with the opposite opinion. I loved reach, I loved the destiny beta, and there will always be those who think other wise. I wouldn't worry about it to much; at the end of the day, it's just entertainment...

Edited by Koldraxon: 8/29/2014 12:17:38 PMReach. Reach still lives, even now because of modded gametypes, servers, player-base, roleplay, and other things. Especially playable elites, I suppose.

My only problem was Armor Lock. It totally broke game flow.
-
Adding bloom and AAs like camo and jetpack was a bad call on bungie's part. Those are my only problems with the game.
-
I played it a lot. I liked 3 better, but still, Reach wasn't bad at all.
-
I loved the campaign but the multiplayer didn't have the same spark that Halo 3 did. Same thing with Halo 4 except the multiplayer in 4 died way earlier for me.
