So the latest IGN video gives us this brief glimpse at a location that will be included in one of the upcoming Expansions. We see a cathedral in the foreground and what looks like a castle or other large structure behind it. I'm no historian or architect, but after some careful googling I believe that the structure in the foreground most resembles french architecture. I even found this picture of Beziers, France that looks awfully similar to what we see in the video. After reading about this area and cathedral (in the background not the foreground) on Wikipedia I found that this city was home to a massacre in the 13th century. Here is the link to the page. The account of the massacre is where we get the saying "Kill them all and let God sort them out" from Caesarius of Heisterbach:
When they discovered, from the admissions of some of them, that there were Catholics mingled with the heretics they said to the abbot “Sir, what shall we do, for we cannot distinguish between the faithful and the heretics.” The abbot, like the others, was afraid that many, in fear of death, would pretend to be Catholics, and after their departure, would return to their heresy, and is said to have replied “Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius - Kill them all for the Lord knoweth them that are His” (2 Tim. ii. 19) and so countless number in that town were slain.
If this is the setting added in the expansion I think it will be a nice change from Old Russia. Rather than focusing on Man rushing to leave the planet we would be able to explore an area that has some historical context, look inward at what has become of the home we humans shared for so long, a home that has come very close to being snatched away from us. Now your turn! If you have a different idea of where this may be post the evidence below. I would be especially interested in what any of our french brothers and sisters think about my analysis. Also if anyone can make out the signs on the building or finds any other new information within the short clip we've been given share it below. UPDATE: J0nny Dillinger was able to read the blue part of the flag on the building. It has a W logo with the word Bank underneath. I messed with the pic to get this but the red portion is still a bit obscured. It looks like the last few letters are GER but beyond that I can't tell. MDDX 141 was able to figure out there is an N before GER. UPDATE 2: Rook has noticed water and mountains off to the right of the picture, suggesting this is somewhere near the coast of France. This makes sense since bungie likes to use water as a natural barrier. I would also like to point out that the location I looked into (Beziers) is next to the Orb river but doesn't seem to be near any mountains. It occurs to me that since the landscape of Russia was changed so drastically in the game that this area that appears European could really be anywhere and landmarks may not be of too much use, but it's all we have to go on.
