This girl claimed feminism today

We had to give a 4 minute speech in my speech class on whatever we wanted, and this girl went up and talked about how an older man told her that she dressed in appropriately (mind you, she dresses like a slut) and she claimed it was an act of men thinking we are superior, and went on a whole rant about feminism. Unfortunately, I couldn't contain my laughter and remarks, and ended up being used as an "example", and also got 10 points of my speech (not a big deal). Anyway, it's stupid and it's funny how they claim feminism for the simplest of stuff. Smh. Credit to all the normal woman in the world, you the real MVP
an older man told her that she dressed in appropriately
I take it she doesn't realize the girls from his time didn't dress like what they do now? Anyway he is right. The girls now do dress like sluts or "inappropriately." There's even 13 year olds that actually wear those tight ass leggings for pants. Yes when I see an attractive girl in them I look. But at the same time I can't help but feel how retarded it is due to how tight they are. I get it that it's to make them feel hot, but at the same time to me it makes them have no self respect.

How could she possibly think there was an issue with societal discrimination against women? Any man who maintains the appearance of sleeping with people would likewise be shunned by society, right?

            • I think the real problem is that people need to learn to respect other's opinions without getting too offended. So the guy thinks she dresses inappropriately. She should get over it and move on. I've been made fun of because I'm lds (Mormon) and I'm just fine. Trying to suppress somebody because their beliefs or opinions offend you is not right. They can believe what they want and you can believe want. This way we can all live happily ever after.

            • My experience says that feminists usually get their panties in a wad over the littlest things. For example, waay back in 8th grade, some people in my class started talking about oppressed women and "why couldn't Jesus had been a girl?" Whenever I gave the logical answer "If Jesus had been a girl, as soon as she started preaching, she would have been stoned to death." And every girl and white knight turned on me. Lucky the teacher was able to see the truth in that. People seem to forget the golden rule; treat others as you would want to be treated. Don't preach to others about how they should act just because someone preached to you how you should act. You're just asking for a rebuttal in kind. Just go "meh, it's my life and I can live with the criticism" and brush it off. And before people start going on here and saying "you aren't a girl, so you can't know what it's like" I will tell you I am deaf. Even more, I am deaf with a cochlear implant. I get flak from both hearing and other deaf people. And I can live with it.

                • Wow @ this thread.. Just wow. I dont even know how to respond to this.
I think you shouldnt have laughed, even if it sounds as if she had a pretty bad presentation. I think, depending on ages, the man was ok if he was respectfully pointing out that its inappropriate to dress like a stripper out in public. Im not one to judge your life, its your choices and your consequences, but its common decency to cover up in public areas, where the innocent or children may be. Some people here argue that "Its your choice to dress how you want". May I remind them, that choices have consequences, and in this situation the consequences were that someone told her that it is inappropriate to dress this way. Also, I would tell anybody, that they were dressed inappropriately for public if it was drastic enough. Man or woman.
• That's a faulty generalisation on her part (the part about how men think and act more superior). What was the reasoning for your laughter? If it was in the context that she jumped to conclusions, then yeah, you're in the right. Anyone has any right to judge a person's clothing, in this case, the older man just happened to be more vociferous about it. Was he right about it? That's debatable (and would require a longer write-up). Now, had the older man said that her wardrobe was grounds for men to be more inclined to -blam!- her, then he'd definitely be in the wrong. Even a nude woman, walking down the street is never grounds for -blam!- a woman... Even cat-calling is a stupid nuisance, and however a woman dresses is never grounds to cat call someone... In the end though, some men will stare, can it be helped, not always. How they react however, is completely on them. Also, unless if the teacher said ahead of time that points would be taken off for interruptions, it would appear that the taking off of points was a form of sexism...

Wow. You missed the point completely. 1. Unless this "older man" was her father, a teacher, a school official or a supervisor on the job.....WHERE DOES HE GET OFF COMMENTING ON WHAT SHE'S WEARING? That is inappropriate and intrusive...and she had a right to be angry. She is correct that this guy wouldn't have felt so "entitled" to mouth off if she hadn't been female. 2. (Assuming you are male) Do people make ASSUMPTIONS about your character and sexual morals ("She dresses like a slut") based on what CLOTHES you choose to wear on a given day? I doubt that they do...and if they did, I doubt that they'd mouth off about to your face. 3. Your disrespect/contempt for her view of the world and HER life experience (to the extent that it differes from yours) is PALPABLE. (Slow clap for the teacher in calling you out...and using your obnoxious behavior as a negative example and a teachable moment) Both in how you treated her at the time...and how you speak of her (and her ideas) now. So the irony here is that in badmouthing her...you've largely demonstrated her point. That women aren't respected. That they are judged for what is on the outside, rather than what is on the inside...and that men treat them as if they are subordinate to men...and the male perception of the world. A person with more life experience than she would have done a better job of giving voice to that frustration with misogynistic prejudice....but, at the end of the day. She's right. YOU'RE wrong.....and so wrong that you don't even see where your behavior is proving that she is right.

                      • I think her point was that she should be able to wear what she wants. But if she wears something slutish she has to expect comments. I get comments all the time for what I wear. Most good but some not, but I do it because I want to and don't care if they don't like what I wear. Im the one wearing it. Not them.

                        • Saying that she dresses like a slut is sexist. I'm not sorry if that offends you. But it's true. We should be free to dress how we please. If I want to wear just a tube sock over my dong, or if she wants to wear a miniskirt, we should be free to do this without people assuming that we sleep with any number of people. Screw these puritanical standards that say sex and sexuality are bad. Guess what, there is no devil, you aren't wrong for popping a boner, and she isn't wrong for dressing the way she does. You and that old man are the problem.

                            • I love the white knight retards in here. "She's free to dress the way she wants to." Yes that's true, but people are also free to judge you on the way you dress. If you dress like a slut or dress like an idoit by having your pants sagging down to your ass people are going to be making comments. If somebody walks up to you or you hear people mumbling then it's your own damn fault for dressing that way. If she wears tight ass leggings and a very reviling cleavage shirt then she should have realized the way she is dressing is going to be getting negative comments in one way or another.

                              • Blame the generation gap, blame the constant & historical shift to dressing sexier, blame voicing an unnecessary opinion, blame media, blame fashion, blame the frickin heat outside. So many things to blame before sexism lmao I would've laughed too (albeit inconspicuously) This post got away from me. I make my point pretty early don't feel the need to keep reading unless you actually care & still disagree
OP said feminism & it set off some flag in half you people you just had to waive around. We know nothing about this situation to jump to feminism "He wouldn't say anything to a guy". Exactly what I'd expect you create a fact out of thin air, or worse suspicion, which is the only supporting evidence for sexism in this situation. How it typically happens as far as my knowledge goes Saying he's "objectifying woman"...lol...if anything he said "respect your body more & don't show it off" LMAO any guy who sees woman as object would have gotten his look & moved on. Or tried to pick her up. Why do you woman go out looking cute/sexy again? Saying he shouldn't have said anything at all... FAIR POINT. Nothing to do w/ sexism though, w/o that fact from your ass I mentioned earlier all I know is what a wise man w/ an epic beard once told me, "if it looks like a dragon, it probably breathes fire"...they know that when they get dressed too. Wear whatever you want, this world will judge & no man is safe from that either. Not to mention in certain places there is an appropriate attire -a job interview I don't wear workout clothes -the gym I don't wear a suit -the beach I don't wear a sweatpants But I can still do all these things you shouldn't say anything to me or think anything of me for dressing inappropriately I guess, or does this only apply to revealing clothing on girls in school? Key word, in school. Cuz no one will say anything about a bikini on the beach or a skimpy skintight dress at the club, and I'm guessing she didn't go that far (as far as revealing goes) All any of us know is the guy told her her outfit was inappropriate. That she shouldn't have been wearing whatever she was wearing that the one person we know who saw her, the OP, felt was slutty. And ya'll want to waive the embroidered flag that is feminism on him & OP for God knows why. Cuz some high school chick you know next to nothing about, except that a kid on a forum for an unreleased game finds her outfit slutty, and that she walked past an older man, claimed it was sexism. (did I miss anything else we actually know about her) Bravo. Insert slow clapping gif here. Y'all never cease to amaze with the whole prior bias thing. Now tell me I'm wrong, so I can tell you what I just told you WITH bias. Now yes I was condescending, but that's not bias. Bias would have been different. Bias doesn't only look at facts. Bias would have been "tell that girl to shut up & put some clothes on if she cares & doesn't like what people think" & "you're calling the only person worried about you a sexist. Make no mistake he's not the only one who thinks it, just the only one who doesn't like it & has the balls, better yet feels the need, to tell you (laugh at her) You're attracting the wrong kind of guy if you're that sensitive about some old guys comment. You're gonna get your heart broken by some jack ass that'll lie to you & just wants sex. You don't know enough about the world yet. IF THAT GUYS COMMENTS BOTHERED YOU THAT MUCH" lol sexism...you guys look at the wrong point. Tough love is love nonetheless & anytime a girl is asked to put on more clothes - especially a girl in high school - it's for her own benefit. Sexist old man... feminism from a high school chick dressed to look sexy... How off base to the big picture. Feminists should be supporting this man & suggesting a different approach. All my generation is told is how great sex is. Iggy Azalea & Katy Perry are waging an unspoken war to see which gets more popular showing off your ass or tits & you call this man an objectifier...the woman these girls look up to are doing it themselves. Miley Cyrus Nicki Minaj Ariana Grande Lady Gaga Pink Taylor -blam!-ing Swift at the VMAs lol name a female artist besides Adele more popular with all their clothes on. How bout movies. Songs. Magazines. What do they typically say about woman. Examine what girls have been wearing in past generations to now. How about how much younger girls want to start looking sexy. Consider that 1/4 teenage girls in the US has an STD! Other than the have as much meaningless sex as you want thing as a guy I'm all for the less clothing right now but when I'm a dad & for dads (moms?) everywhere & some other people there's your problem. Rather that's this old guys problem. He doesn't wanna see that & I can understand him saying to one girl, however he said it, this isn't the choice she wants to make. Judging by her getting butthurt, it isn't. Y'all get mad at him for that if you want to lol it's just asinine & ill-conceived in my biased opinion. Bcs again THIS IS MY BIASED OPINION don't bother finding holes I already know they're there So why say this? Cuz I went to high school with a graduating class above 1200. I now go to college & see it all. Cuz I have slutty friends, tease friends, and typical good girl friends. Cuz I've had this conversation (and the "I wanna lose weight" convo lol) more times than I'd care to admit. & News flash they dress differently. They know exactly what they're advertising & subsequently what they're attracting cuz they aren't -blam!-ing retarded & oblivious to the world around them... I could go on forever about this but I can't change the world or an idiots opinion. I'd rather just go out, find what I'm looking for buy judging outfits like any guy whose ever gone out has, wear a jimmy, & move on. Gotta accept things for how they are when the people who care can't even look at the bigger picture & see the real problems. Lol And that's only if this is a problem to you. I don't like it, cuz I've been, played, cheated on & lied to, and all the vice versa in the past, not proud. But I can't call it a problem just cuz I don't like it. Of course, what would feminism be if they didn't? I can't believe I wasted so much thought on this -blam!-ing post but hey an hour closer to 9/9 right that's all that matters
