"The ALS Ice bucket challenge is stupid. Just donate money anyway."
Just go ahead and donate money. There is no reason for a stupid ice bucket challenge to be spammed everywhere.

I never needed an ice bucket challenge to donate to charity in my day.
To those of you with this mindset, kindly do us all a favor and get off your high-horses and shut the -blam!- up. The only way charities get donations is if they raise awareness. What better way to raise awareness than to start a trend that goes viral? The ice bucket challenge is a simple, yet very clever way to get millions of people to raise awareness over this horrific disease. Already over 20 million dollars in donations have been made to ALS research. That's a lot more than any of your asinine ramblings will do.

    • And actually, how the ice bucket challenge is supposed to work, is that if you do it within 24 hours, you are supposed to donate $10. If you don't, you are supposed to donate $100.

    • The ice bucket challenge's heart is in the right place. Doesn't change the fact that it doesn't do as good of a job as actually just donating money. Posting a 15 second video making people aware of what ALS and to donate apparently is too nerdy or serious for people these days. It doesn't get their attention unless it's fun. That's a sad truth none of you can deny. If everyone who did the ice bucket challenge decided to donate money rather than dumping ice on themselves, more than the supposed $20mil would have been raised. Oh, and the only reason people do the ice bucket challenge is if they're tagged(for the most part). Meaning what? Meaning if you just posted a video to your timeline explaining ALS with a donation link. Literally everyone on your facebook could see that and click and donate...which raises money much faster and is more accessible. Hell, it doesn't take in idiot to realize that you can actively search for causes to donate for. You have a $100? Go donate to five different charities right now. Oh, it's too reasonable and you need peer pressure? Okay. All of that said, if you want to go the challenge route fine, but at least -blam!-ing donate.

I...I agree with longface on something...I need to go home and rethink my life. Serious though, I agree and a lot of people who have done the bucket challenge have ALSO donated. Besides, if money is being generated, who is anyone to complain about it?

      • People don't seem to understand why they're doing the ice bucket. It has nothing to do with the disease. They are doing it because it is silly and stupid, and it is giving the charity visibility. In a world where there are thousands of charitable foundations a cause needs to stand out. The Ice Bucket Challenge makes this stand out and people are having fun with it and donations are coming in. That anyone could be against this baffles me.

        • I agree. If I donate 100$ and that's it, that $100 is worth the same amount as $100 donated by me after I dump a bucket of water on myself(or someone else).

        • How much of that money is actualy going to research, and people with ALS? I honestly would like to know. A lot of those funds send very little to people with the actual disease or research

        • Yes, I still think the challenge is extremely stupid. Let me explain why. The original rules were that you either give to the charity for ALS or you dump a bucket of ice water on your head which isn't that bad especially if you're use to swimming in lakes. Most people that I see doing it never donate, they just pour ice water on themselves so they can feel accepted, wasting millions of gallons of water. There's even lots of celebrities that do it just for their own ego with barely donating any money. People with millions of dollars that feel like a good summaritan for donating $100. Also, many, many people do not do it in a "safe place" such as a pool or lawn though I see it still being pointless as it is purified drinking water most times. Did you know that diarrhea is the #1 child killer in the whole world? And the cause of it? Unclean drinking water. Hell, that stuff is like liquid gold in other parts of the world, and that's besides the fact that we're in a drought right now. 97.5% of all the water in the world is salt water leaving only 2.5% fresh water. Of that 2.5%, 70% of it is frozen in the ice caps. 1% of the world's fresh water (~0.007% of all water on earth) is accessible for direct human uses. And that's without even counting the fresh water that's actually consumable. Have you heard of the Clean Water Act of 1972? It established that humans are to recognize the need to protect water. TL;DR There are things worse than ALS.

They should raise awareness in a better way. I've heard about the ice bucket challenge for a while now but only recently discovered the point of it after asking somebody what the reason is for. Although they told me it was "for some charity to raise awareness". They didnt even know what they were " raising awareness" for! So I had to look it up and only then I knew what it was for. Because what the -blam!- does dumping a bucket of ice on yourself have anything in common with what amlyotrophic lateral sclerosis is?

              • I just think celebrities could be doing it better. Most that I've seen just write that it's the ALS challenge, then they tip water on themselves and nominate somebody else. Some provide a link with information on how to donate or actually provide awareness by explaining what it is; but most just do it and say some names. Hell, I didn't even realize until yesterday that ALS was Motor Neuron disease.
