Forum mods shortage?

Ever since Destiny attracted many new users to bungie.net, the forums and community have declined in quality. Could bungie possibly look to take on a few more mods to keep a handle on all the trolls and non-constructive threads? The forums are littered with the same rubbish every day and it becomes hard to find genuinely interesting topics and people willing to sensibly discuss issues or have a good bit of fun. I'm fairly certain people would even put a fair few hours a week into moderating for free. -McDuff

  •
I'm fairly certain people would even put a fair few hours a week into moderating for free.
Ok, I do not work for Bungie, or speak for the Ninjas and Mentors, but let me get one thing straight. Moderators are not paid. Ninjas, Mentors, whatever, most of the admin (with the notable exception of Bungie staff) on these forums are volunteer members of the community which proved themselves through their actions on these forums. They're pretty much just cool guys who have dedicated an extra portion of their time. I like how Foman123 phrased it, becoming Ninja is not like some kind of end-game goal for the Forums, nor does not being a moderator mean that you're better then anyone else. If you see a troll, or someone bullying someone else on the forums, or someone posting a bunch of vulgar pictures, or whatever, then you don't have to be a moderator to take action. There's always a Report button, or, if someone is harassing another person you can reach out to the person in need, without being a moderator. However, this does not mean that you should backlash at the "bully" either. I'm going off on a tangent now, so let me get back to my original point. Moderators are not paid by Bungie, they're just volunteer members of the forum. Just because you're not one, doesn't mean you can't be helpful. However, don't get your heart broken if you don't ever become Ninja. Most of the most valuable Bungie forum members aren't, and never will be.

    • They probably won't. There's usually been a surge in members just before a new game is released, which then dies down after the street date hits. Plus, the new Mute feature can alleviate some of the noise you see.
