I personally want an offline mode, simply because I don't want to depend on bungies servers to play my game that I'm paying 60$ for. If the servers are down for maintenance, or have crashed, then I lose access to my game. And what about in the future, when the servers are taken down permanently?

The only real reason I feel this game needs an offline mode is because without one Bungie will be singling out all the people who don't have access to the Internet, like our men and women in the military. I have many friends in the military who will not be able to play this game if it is online only Support the world's soldiers Bungie...

Edited by Dieharderxx: 8/13/2014 12:20:31 AMThe design for Destiny includes daily updates to content so it has to be online and is likely designed to work off servers. You don't know how much of the content you see in the map is being run by your console or being run by the Destiny server. Destiny has to keep track of where everything is and what is happening to it and that is likely done on the server side. So I doubt your Destiny game can function without server connection. If you want an offline game, don't buy Destiny but the future of gaming is going towards having more and more games that are always online. I think anything that offers coop play will be having an always online connection. And we will all have to deal with things like down for maintenance. Just find something else to do in your life.

It's not your game. Your buying a client used to connect to the game server. Basically you're renting access to the game for an indeterminate amount of time, until the owners decide it's not worth supporting anymore.

More options being available for a games ability to be accessed will always be a good thing WHEN it's not an option that people prey upon. Taking into consideration the nature of internet it's EASY to understand why a player would want an "offline" mode. Both Microsoft and Sony have taken steps to increase a players ability to "STAY connected" from several common interruptions that happen over internet lines that disconnect you from your gaming network. One example being the well known " static discharge" from severe weather knocking you off an ONLINE ONLY game the moment lightning strikes a couple miles away. If I had to determine faith in Bungies ability to place a proper "game file authentication" protocol when and if an offline mode was available I'd say yes, that they would do it properly to avoid offline hacking/glitching of game files. If it was Activison I had to place faith in , I'd say no that they wouldn't have put proper "game file authentication" in place. Too many COD games where the hacking/ glitching/cheating went unstopped. So I'm glad Bungie is in the drivers seat and ACTIVISION's just paying for the gas while riding shotgun. Although, Activision would NOT be my first choice on this journey anyway. We dodged a bullet just by not having Electronic Arts anywhere near this game. The thought sickens many.

Edited by ShizRizGrizDiz: 8/13/2014 2:29:54 AMIf youre concerned about it, dont buy the game. That simple. And why is a lot of people worried about this kind of thing? Look at MMOs on PC, theyre all online servers and theyve been running for years. Still going. WoW for example, 15 dollars a month. 4 months later, you spent 60 bucks. But people still pay and play and the servers are still going. So stop worrying about Destiny. Again, if your too concerned over this issue, dont buy the game. They are not forcing you to spend $60. And just cause you bought it doesnt make it yours. The money you have, technically isnt yours. The money we earn is technically the governments. We are just allowed to work for it and use it. But at anytime the government can take everything you own because technically the government owns everything.

It should at least include a lan party mode, it would be awesome to have your friends by your side while completing a couple of strikes.

While I agree with what you are saying, Destiny is based around online play. It wouldn't be Destiny without the multiplayer experience. Imagine fighting a Devil Walker without anyone to cover your back. It would take a long time and most would not consider it fun.

They promised 10 years , I intend to hold them to that!

My ps4 is always online and if the server's are down then there's always the real world.

Reach and 3 still have servers. I think offline would be kinda dull but harmless except to the developers time.

It's not * your* game. Just like the price of a ticket or a DVD doesn't make it YOUR movie. It gives you the right to WATCH the movie. Your $60 gives you the right to PLAY the game....within the limits set by Bungie and Activision (the real owners).

I think it should have an offline option. I mean, when Xbox 1 announced that the system would need to be "always online" gamers shit a cow and complained to no end about it. Sony got smart and announced that their system did not require this (although they were going to and changed their tune when they saw the backlash MS received). Now both systems are functional and allow games to be played offline. I remember before the launch of the new systems some, SOME players had the foresight and called it correctly that soon after both systems launched they (MS & Sony) would somehow creep in the "always online" feature in a way the feeble gamers would not notice, since our collective memories are short. Sep 9, 2014. Destiny will ship as "always online" to be able to play. Soon after, more games will come with this requirement. And before you know it, some patch or next console will have this requirement, as well. I for one was ok with always online from the start. Many players had as their main issue that they don't always have connection or have spotty, unstable connection. Ok. I see their problem. But now here comes a kick-ass game and suddenly about half of the gamers (according to this poll) don't mind the "always online" requirement. Even though I was ok with "always online" for consoles from the start, I think since players as a collective refused to move into the future a few months ago, I stand my ground and hope we have the offline option. After all, thousands of people cried and cried about the console online issue before launch of next gen consoles. How easy we forget...

The question you need to ask yourself is 'has bungie misled you in any way to make you think this game was going to have offline play?' You are paying your money on the basis that you know it's online only. If you are unhappy about it, just don't buy the product

I would like an offline mode, just in case my internet takes a dump one day and I can't play it until its up and running

No offline mode so less hacker/modders/cheaters same reason for no trading
-
I can imagine that for those who travel or dont have a consitant internet source it could be helpful, but seeing as the game is designed as an MMO, it would be cutting out access to many things in the game playing it offline, and I dont personally think that it would be as enjoyable if given an offline mode, it would probably wear down quickly.

You really need to understand ownership rights when it comes to video games. You actually don't pay for ownership, you pay for access. Study property law, specifically digital property law.
-
I'd like it, but I know Destiny isn't designed that way.
-
I just want the ability for my game to go into an offline mode instead of logging me out or kicking me out of a server when my internet turns south like it does every now and then.

Edited by CheckForAPulse: 8/11/2014 7:00:40 AMExcept everything in the game relies on syncing with the online servers? I would imagine everything from your equipped gear, to your vault to the stores themselves is handled by the servers and not stored on your console. They would have to basically rewrite the whole game from the ground up for this to be achievable? Also, this opens the doors for people to exploit/cheat as has been said before. It just wont ever happen.

I see lots of comments that don't get it. Destiny is not your topical game, Its run as an mmo Not saying its an exact MMO but that's how its run. For those of you who still don't get it, imagine it like World of Warcraft, or Star Wars Old Republic (open world multilayer) not like COD or Battlefield. This game has to run online 24/7 their is no offline. This is going to b the start of big MMOs on consoles, finally. Get used to it.
