Tales from the Cryptarch: The Origin of Glimmer

It's commonly known that Glimmer is programmable matter, once used as a source of power during the Golden Age. What is not commonly understood is the origin of that matter. Where did it come from? Why does it exist? The true written history of Glimmer was lost sometime during the collapse, all records presumably destroyed. However, some theories stubbornly proliferate in the modern academic community. Leave it to an academic to look a gift horse in the mouth, I suppose. Two of the more popular theories that exist are as follows: The first and more likely theory being that Glimmer originated with the arrival of the traveler and the appearance of Ghosts. The main proponents of this theory claim the substance is too radical to have existed prior to the Golden Age, and too durable to be anything so simple as an invention of man. The second most popular theory contends that Glimmer is an artificial lifeform invented by humans, originating sometime during the time period when the first Exo's were invented. Main proponents of this theory point to the technological similarities of the two as evidence to support their ideas. The academic community is quite simply, wrong on all counts. Not only can neither theory prove itself as correct, nor disprove the other side, but believing one or the other has ZERO practical value. One wonders, why humans in particular place so much emphasis on the importance of conjecture when they stand to gain nothing from it. I will briefly note however, that my personal belief on the origins of Glimmer are known only to me, and that if academics had spent as much time learning to benefit from the FACT of the substance's existence, I dare say they could be as wealthy as I. (Please note: This is a work of FANFICTION only. In no way do ANY of my stories accurately represent current or future lore made by Bungie. As always thank you for your continued interest in my writing.)
